he’d been thinking about it for a while. that whatever was going on with him and paul needed to stop. he hated the idea of having to hide it because of the issues that michonne was having. he didn’t blame her -- everyone had their moments of weakness, but his happiness should’ve been important. selfish, he knew that. but it seemed like every time he had something, it was always took away from him. they had to focus on imprioving relations and aaron knew that it wouldn’t work the way he wanted to if people found out he had been lying.
he’s been at hilltop for the past few hours. talking to distract himself from what he was going to do, and at the sight of paul -- aaron heaves a heavy breath, running over to softly touch at his company “can we talk?”
@soulpromised -> daryl
he didn’t know just why he’d stuck around after returning back to hilltop. there was nothing else there for him, he knew that now. there had been a time where he would’ve sworn that he was over whatever feelings he had for jesus, but all of them came flooding back when he’d witnessed the attack. tara had given him time to himself. gracie had been keeping him distracted,her constant happiness being something he needed at this point. but he’d found himself wanting to stick around when the new prisoner had been brought in and after the visit to henry, aaron found himself questioning a few things
“ daryl?” he’d motioned gracie to one of her friends, arms folding over his chest “what are you gonna do with that girl?”

The canteen was unscrewed, generous sip of water taken as eyes scanned the tree line waiting for Aaron to appear. The temperature was barely above freezing, and a passing storm had left about an inch and a half of powdery snow on the ground – enough that he could make out the fresh tracks of what appeared to be a rabbit nearby. Breath fogged on every exhale, nervous energy causing him to shift every few moments on the tree stump he’d claimed as a chair.
This was their first meeting since they decided that there was too much going on in both their communities to continue with whatever had been between them. It hadn’t been an easy decision, but in the end, it had been better than ignoring what needed to be handled at home. The good of the many would always outweigh the wants of the few. It was a philosophy he lived by, one that wasn’t necessarily what made him happiest, but…the situation called for him to look to his own wants and needs last.
“Hi.” The greeting was followed by a wave of his hand and a smile that spoke of how good it was to see him. “It’s been a while. I wasn’t sure if you’d come.” Honestly? Paul hadn’t even been sure he was going to be able to come until the last minute. “Got some news. After Maggie left, you know, they put me in as defacto leader because she said so.” He shrugged, meeting Aaron’s gaze with his own. “They had an official election today…guess I’m stuck with it now.” It was obvious he wasn’t thrilled. “How’s Alexandria holding up?
Snow. The last time he remembered seeing it was when the walls of Alexandria came down for the first time. It seemed almost surreal that it even fell at this point. He hadn’t told anyone bar Gracie that he was leaving. She’d keep it quiet, and stay happily with the lady at Hilltop who offered to look after her. Part of being family he supposed. Pulling the water bottle out of his bag, Aaron made his way out of the clearing and rolled his eyes
“Wes and Alex kept me talking when I dropped Gracie off” He was still..weird when it came to this whole thing. Awkward exes? Maybe that was the right term for it. Dropping down onto the log, Aaron pulled his legs underneath him “You know those two .Got a new boyfriend, seeing old flames? They’re like two gossiping old people” and he had to admit that sometimes -- it got irritating. But he shook his head, offering a roll that he’d brought to the other man
“You’re a good man. They’ve got a good leader.” Literally anyone knew that Paul would be good when it came to leading Hilltop. They trusted him, and it was a good way of going about it. At the mention of Alexandria, Aaron gave a sigh “Michonne’s still.. Michonne. We’re doing good, though. Everyone’s still doing good.” After Rick, Aaron honestly didn’t blame Michonne for being the way that she was. Everyone would’ve reacted that way
@puzzlepcice
“ it’s nice to get out of the gates every once in a while. “ hilltop was.. suffocating sometimes. he almost felt that -- with everything that had been going on with the whisperers -- people were just on edge with others leaving. the apple is gently placed between teeth, and after the bite is took, the former recruiter bites back a small laugh, watching aj and gracie run around in front of him. it was nice for her to have kids her own age. there’s a small smile in clementine’s direction, and aaron leans back on his arms “ glad you decided to stick around. sorry i dragged you all the way to hilltop but -- our little.. group isn’t too bad, i suppose “
@agirlinhell
the cigarette that he’d been finishing of had been placed in the ashtray beside his chair. it had been three months since clem and aj had settled down in alexandria. since all of the kids had been placed into houses. it had been a few weeks since jesus had suggested them moving to hilltop. it made him uneasy, really. he was still building up their trust, and uprooting them wouldn’t be good --- but maybe he’d talk about it. water in his hand, and the fresh bread rolls he’d collected from the mill placed onto the table, and aaron rocks back on his feet
“clementine? aj? can you come downstairs?”

" she’s actually settled pretty well.” he was still of the firm belief that he was unready for being a father. everyone else seemed to think otherwise, but --- it just didn’t seem right. she was something of a reminder of the day that eric died. a day that he didn’t really want to remember. but she was a spiritedly 4 year old now, running around like a headless kitchen -- and aaron couldn’t keep up anymore “she asks about her real dad sometime.”
