OKAY SORRY One more post because I'm writing a meta and I wanted to keep it on my blog so I'll reblog it to the GO Community, and found something that I haven't seen anyone mention yet and I really need to scream about it before my meta is done for tomorrow.
I THINK WE ARE GETTING A MUTUAL CONFIRMATION / CONFESSION EARLY IN THE MOVIE, and here's why:
(first two: 1:06 to 1:09)
(second two: 1:34 to 1:44)
I truly believe that these scenes in the trailer are part of the same scene, which I think we collectively agree is the reunion scene in the bookshop. In the first chunk, this is where Aziraphale mentions that "You want an apology from me". It's been established that when they need to do a Big Apology, they dance for each other.
What if, and hear me out... Aziraphale does an apology dance but he dances with Crowley (similar to their Ball dance scene in S2) alone, and sings, "you were right", slowly, FINALLY giving us a pet name from Azzie ("dear") , Azzie confesses that he loves Crowley, and that his feelings about them being together are complicated, and promises Crowley that they will talk later after "this Second Coming business" is done, because "you have my word as an angel".
And he confesses KNOWING that The Second Coming may happen and he would regret not telling Crowley that he at least loves him.
And THAT'S why Crowley agrees to help the rest of the episode.
What niggled me on this? Because the scene IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING the second chunk of images is this now-infamous one:
Which I think we have agreed is possibly LATE LATE in the episode. I am of the belief that this is a happy "I can't believe that this is real and all I've wanted for SIX THOUSAND YEARS" incredulous smile and cry.
We already KNOW Crowley is in love with Azzie. AZZIE knows Crowley is in love with him. That arc, in a sense, is DONE. That would make for a really awkward 75-90 minutes.
I believe that, given Crowley is an eternal optimist, a PROMISE of Something More will keep him going and determined to go with whatever his angel needs.
Now, to be fair, I know Crowley rarely ever says "no" to Azzie, especially if he needs help. But I personally feel like that "arc" was already covered in S2, and it doesn't need a rehashing. PLUS a "I love you too but it's complicated" early on will keep the stakes HIGH in the rest of the episode.
Narratively speaking, I think that makes more sense than DRAGGING out a confession RIGHT at the end when it's already been established that there is love there.
I feel like that this "promise of more" is going to carry the episode forward.
I dunno, or I'm talking out of my own arse. I welcome additional theories / ideas.
