tumblr needs to watch I Saw the TV Glow. it’s queer. it’s tragic. it’s autistic. it’s trans. it’s beautiful. it’s weird. it’s gut wrenching. it’s about the power of connecting with someone over a niche tv show. it’s made for us.

I saw the tv glow makes me mourn for everyone who felt like there wasn’t enough time. Everyone who thought their time was up and they just had to stay how they were. They had to stay dying.
There is still time.
There is Always still time.
the director of isttg retweeted this article im reading and
i saw the tv glow said to come out you have to kill a part of yourself, the version of yourself you've created to protect yourself, the imaginary vision of yourself that was fed to you
when you go to the gender clinic you can ask about being buried alive left to scream and claw at the lid of your coffin until you emerge into your real body & your real name but idk if it's covered by insurance
Some of the only scenes we see Owen smile in are these two scenes, it's barely visible but it's a small crack of light. Seeing how far apart they are, it's so obvious how desperate he is to feel comfortable in his own skin. He's barely 17 in the dress, but he's in his 40s by the time he rips himself open and smiles again. Owen doesn't even smile when he's talking about his family that he 'oh so loves', it's devastating how far he's come suppressing himself, suppressing herself.
We become desperate as the years go by, to feel comfortable for even a moment, in private, where no one can see what you really want to be, where no one will judge you, where you feel the warmth of your true self hugging you back after denying it in public. It's so gentle and careful at first-- from trying on your first pair of affirming clothing, to ripping open your grave of a body to find your real self buried somewhere in there. The dirt has already collapsed in on what you want to be, but the shovel is in your hand, and your breath will fill its lungs again.
The Pink Opaque was a tv show. We watched it in your basement on Saturday nights from 10:30 to 11:00. Remember? The last show before the Young Adult Network switched to black and white reruns for the night.
Yeah. But are you sure? Are you sure that's all it was?
