Dust and Decay

The timeline was quiet, the deed all but completed. A ‘Genocide’ run as it was called by the ‘overseers’. Some found this route by accident, others allowed their curiosity to get the best of them. Others felt they had no choice. 

Timelines like this often fell quiet at one point or another before they were completely erased. Either by someone giving up, or simply by someone losing interest. Which one was it this time? 

It was in timelines like this, in the terrifying silence of the VOID that the creature named ‘MC’ found themselves most at home. These spaces in time held so much potential. And often were wrought with foolish ‘Chara’ that were lost within~ 

So. Where was this one then in this voided timeline? One belonging to a being who was no doubt consumed by their role as the exterminator. MC could practically feel it in the air. This timeline had no real meaning aside from a feeling of accomplishment~ 

So where was the cause?

(Chara stood in the middle of 10 or so screens, looking between them at a deliberate pace. Whether monitoring their interactions in other timelines or gathering intel to enter new ones, it required vigilance and patience.)

(Fortunately, they had learned vigilance from the many genocide runs, and patience from their eternity in the void. )

(Hearing footsteps, Chara waved their screens away. It had been a long time since they had had a visitor to their timeline. As important as monitoring their screens was, anyone visiting would require their full attention. )

(As the other Chara spoke, they raised their eyebrows. Their words, while taunting and confident, reminded them so much of their own. This was not one of the human charas they've seen, they were certainly more of a demon. )

(They stepped away and went towards the voice, until they saw the other Chara and their piercing red eyes. )

"Hiding? It's not possible in this Void, surely you know that. And even then, why would anyone ignore a visitor here? The silence can be quite maddening."

(Sorry this took so long!)

(Chara continues looking through screens, between the countless repeats of the same timelines, they find one that perks their interest)

Hmm...Interesting. This timeline has me experimented on, gaining...ice powers? How the lines of causality work confuse me...

(They follow the timeline, watching the chara closely) 

Despite basically being a ghost, it seems this is still their timeline. No other character seems to have diverged from the main patterns. 

There were much more openings before they died, but perhaps I can find new ones...or perhaps some of those old wounds and openings may prove useful.

(They place their hands on the screen, transporting themselves to the timeline. They approach them from behind, as to not alert their frisk)

Hello, Chara. Your timeline is very interesting, your state in particular. Perhaps you could find some time away from your Frisk?

*Core almost fell for it. Key word: almost. They didn’t quite teleport behind, enough to the side that they avoided the swipes at them.

*Not that they could get hurt, really. But still, pride was a matter of concern.

*“Well, I suppose, if you’re asking for it,” they replied, and suddenly, three knives went flying at the other Chara.

*“Oh, yes, they had no idea.”

I wish I could spawn knives. Working with only one is so limited. 

(They jump and dodge the 3 knives, swiping at Chara as they do to buy some time)

Perhaps I’ll just have to make my own weapons then. 

(They head to one of the bridges around them and slice at the bars- the knife is sharp enough and the bars thin enough to break, and chara grabs the broken piece, then whirls around to face core’s next attack which they are sure is coming)

*Chara snickered at the comment. It was a pro of the condition, obviously.

*“Try the Core sometime. Works wonders for that.” They snickered again. As the other moved for the weapon, Core sent another knife attack, just one this time.

(One knife only? Probably some type of ploy. I wonder how many knives they can spawn at once. If it’s infinite, they certainly aren’t trying to kill me- they could create an attack that would be near impossible to dodge. Assuming their power is infinite, they are only going for attacks that they know won’t kill me. At least not yet, i’m sure eventually they’ll start striking to kill if only to make the fight more interesting. But for now, they’d probably aim for a place that would only weaken me...which would most likely be the legs. Better not jump this one, i’m sure there’s a nasty trick waiting for me.)

(Chara tightens their grip on the bar and as they whirl around, smack the knife to throw off it’s course. They change their position just in case the knife would come flying back)

It would be a lie to say seeing you didn’t make me consider it. There’s certainly ‘pros’. But I am already bored enough, I won’t inflict hell upon myself.

(Core seems to like to face them when talking, right after their comment, they wait a second or two, before slashing forward, trying to catch them as they teleport in front of them)

Asriel stiffened a little at the sound of Chara’s voice. It was a low snarl, teeming with such hatred and malice which was being aimed towards him. The guilt for what he had done back then had been consuming him since the end of that fateful day, where life’s curtains were drawn shut for the both of them, never to open again.Or at least, not as they both knew it.

Asriel had remembered the sensation easily as it flowed through his body on that occasion. He had recalled that the two of them were not only sharing the life essence of one soul flowing through them, but seven, which contributed to his metamorphosis into one of the most powerful beings existing within both realms.

With Asriel’s untamable amount of curiosity, imagination and hope, combined with Chara’s ceaseless amount of determination, the combination of these two ingredients ensured Chara back then that their plan would have succeeded. Back then, before they were about to proceed with it, Chara had assured that Asriel was the only other person who could perform this act with them. Together, they would achieve a peaceful life outside from the barrier not only for themselves, but everyone, as Chara had put it.

Despite his doubts at the time, Asriel was spurred on by this and decided to aid them in their quest in achieving this dream for themselves, wishing to make it a reality. They were almost there. They were just within reach of achieving it once Asriel had broken the barrier. However, with one simple ACT, the young monster had corrupted this dream, turning it into a nightmare that he would relieve for the rest of his life. What he had deemed as being right for his friend had transformed his self-deluded view of himself thanks to Chara’s encouragement of being a ‘savior’into becoming the cause of not only his own, but his best friend’s death. He was nothing more than a murder in his own perspective. Something which he would never forgive himself for.

As he stood now, there was nothing but an eerie silence accompanied by perpetual darkness. However, he could feel Chara’s gaze crawling upon his back, fueled with such fury. A pair of crimson eyes seemed to be illuminating the abyss, filling the entire atmosphere with such dread. Asriel gulped a little, took a step back, not at all knowing what would become of him. He waited a little, wondering if Chara would appear before he gained the courage to speak.

Not being able to respond to Chara’s snide comment to him, due to being in such a state of endless pain, he could indeed move, but only by the slightest centimetre. It hurt far too much to even lift his head to look at them. His vision was fading to black, stars dancing in his eyes.

This was it… his own death.

Whatever the circumstance, if he was to die here, he would not agitate Chara any further by commenting. He lay there, hand over his wound, and made no sound. He waited to see what would happen next.

*“Oh, a Sans and some kind of Chara and Asriel mix. Not to mention that human, Jay. You probably don’t know her, but she’s extremely annoying. But very fun.”

(As soon as they feel the slightest touch, they spin around and jump back, once again continuing their erratic movements. They aim a few fake out strikes only to immediately turn around and swipe, trying to bait them into teleporting again)

Aw, you aren’t going to even attack? That’s no fun. How can I test my skills if all you do if try and tap me on the shoulder. 

I feel sorry for them, they must have had no idea what they were getting into.

Oh it wouldn’t be any fun if there wasn’t some game between us. Although I do acknowledge the challenge for me is far greater. If I fail, it’s not that big of a deal. There’s plenty more timelines.

My tricks huh? As far as manipulation goes, I’m probably nothing you haven’t seen. I only have words after all, and a detachment. But plenty of us have that.

But you can’t die, so what about a FIGHT? Can’t imagine too many people stand a chance against you. I’d like to see how long I last, and it will certainly liven up the conversation.

(Chara pauses for a moment to think about their usual strategies, before bouncing on their feet and charging, moving incredibly fast and erratically, working to go opposite of their usual psychology in fights to try and bypass the omniscience the other possesses.)

So what are all these fights you’ve been in lately. Doesn’t seem wise to challenge an omnipotent and omniscient figure. I hope they honestly didn’t expect to win..

No supernatural abilities here. If there’s one thing I’m better at than most Charas, however, it’s fighting. And while falling into the core to gain powers like you have is tempting…the fact that your boredom exceeds mine concerns me.

How about something I can’t do in my timeline. I kill and torture in my runs every time.

Again with the killing. Honestly, i’d rather leave them like that. If you kill them, who knows exactly what happens with their soul until everything resets. Let them soak in it.

I do indeed have a few things going that are like this. I haven’t gotten the memories from them yet, so I assume I have not completed my tasks. 

Of course, I have to wonder if the true reason you brought it up was because that’s exactly what you plan to do with me. Not that there’s much left of me to dry up...

His reflexes were far too slow to have noticed what Chara’s next move was. Until he gazed upon a deep gash, but with no red fluid seeping out. Unlike humans, monsters did not bleed, but they could still experience the sensation of pain. It was searing through his entire body, and, clutching it, he bent into a crouching position, tears flowing silently upon the ground.

He was trying his hardest not to scream out nor show their friend any sign that the pain was indeed this agonising. This was it. He was going to die yet again. Over and over and over. Funny. Those words were reminiscent of someone he once knew. Someone he once was. It was his predestined fate for what he had done after, which Chara reconfirmed.

He was nothing more than a traitor in the eyes in all his loved ones. His parents, his friends, well, the only true friend he ever considered as such.

And now those ties were gone. Non-existant. Disposed of. Just like his very life. It was a never-ending cycle.

Right now, he needed help once more. He didn’t wish to die. Not at all, and certainly not like this.

It hurt.

It hurt so much.

The pain was indescribable.

The mental and physical anguish was slowly causing his death. He was now nothing more than perhaps spineless prey in the eyes of the human he bore such feeling towards since their first encounter. He remembered. No one had ever understood him the way they did. More tears. He couldn’t help himself. Even if he was to defend him self, much less fight back, Chara’s LV overpowered his own. It was an inevitable victory for them either way now. They would see the traitor they wished to kill finally suffer once and for all. @oneandonlychara

(Chara sits trying to decide whether or not to kill them quickly. On one hand, a slow death is what they deserved for forcing them into this hell. On the other hand though...asriel might not die from this. They weren’t exactly precise with the strike like they usually were)

(Oh my goodness, I do apologise for taking so long with this RP! *stupid mun*)

Asriel could do neither of the actions that Chara had described. All he could do was just stand there, motionless, taking in all of Chara’s response. Why on earth would they want to even think of putting their owe life to a brutal end, much less his own?

They… they were delusional.

There was always violent tendencies that resided in his best friend’s SOUL, or rather, metaphorically speaking in that sense now, but they wanted to put an end to him?

Asriel could not help but keep his gaze upon the razor-sharp tip of their brandished knife. Specks of dust and blood were evident upon its blade, and before he knew it, he would be the same. He was facing his own fate before him.

He couldn’t flee. He couldn’t react to all of this. His mind was blank. As if this was a horrible nightmare and he would soon wake up with them and his loving family by his side.

No.

This was indeed reality. Childishness and hope were abandoned long ago.

But… if Chara didn’t bring him here… then what sort of bizarre force did? And why would they or it or whatever it was, want to see him suffer more that what he had already had done? He was lost. Confused. And tired. He just wanted all of this to end. Why him? What on earth did he do to deserve this?

Hah, then you’ve got a sorry imagination. Why wouldn’t hope matter to a demon? Hope is what drives everyone to fight, what provides the challenges of the game.
