“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,” Titus 2:11 ESV
After talking with Brian today, He brought up such an interesting fact about life that is so simple, yet most of us never really go through in life thinking about it - we need our past, our present, and our future. A lack in any of these three things is a cause of many forms of distress.. and yet none of us give it much thought.
And I want to explore how that works with the gospel in our lives - starting with the necessity of our past.
We often want to forget our ugly pasts. All have skeletons in our closets, and we often have scars that remind us when we do not want to. However, on the other hand, we forget our pasts when we should not. We forget to be grateful for what we have, and start being selfish again. The truth is, we need our pasts to be able to understand the gift of salvation. We need to acknowledge that the grace of God that appeared to us is a miracle, and we cannot forget the state that we were in. The past is the past, we cannot change it nor should we forget it. It is our root to remind us where we came from, and how wonderful it is for us to be standing where we are at this moment. And when we start to forget our pasts, we should remember the psalmist who said, “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.” Psalms 77:11 Considering that we have accepted the gospel, it has become our past. Let us not forget the wonder of this miraculous happening. To remember the deeds and the faithfulness of our Lord will give us strength for the present, and the future.
