Ephesians 3
It’s sad. It’s so sad that there are so many souls out there who don’t realize that God is reachable; they don’t realize just how close He is. They spend their entire lives worshiping Him and praying to Him as if He’s afar off. But God is an intimate God. He’s a close God𑁋 even as close as beside us, inside us. He’s that friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). It seems as if no one can really grasp the idea of God desiring to talk to us face-to-face as a man would to a friend: “And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend…” (Exodus 33:11).
We don’t need a pastor or a priest to speak to God on our behalf. Jesus is our High Priest, and because He dwells in us, we can go directly to God ourselves in prayer with confidence. When the veil was torn, we received complete access to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. We don’t have to pray long, eloquent, and repetitious prayers in order to be heard by God. The Bible says that the heathens pray using vain repetitions because they think that they’ll be heard for their much speaking (Matthew 6:7). We can pray to God and speak to Him like He’s a friend and be completely honest about our heart, our struggles, and our sin, believing that He hears us and responds.
God is not a Sunday service God. He desires to meet with us in our homes, at our jobs, as we run errands, and go through our day-to-day lives. He desires to be with us Monday through Saturday and not just when we’re sitting in the pews. He’s so much bigger than that, greater than that. And my prayer today is that Christ would dwell in the hearts of many by faith; that many would be rooted and grounded in love; that many would be able to comprehend the breadth, the length, the depth, and the height, and to know the love of Christ, which surpasses knowledge; and that many would be filled with the fullness of God.
