This picture frame shop/pinball machine place had this art contest where they had to design a drawing representing a choice of three games, stranger things, Mario, and some haunted house game. Well this girl didn’t wanna pick any of those and drew this beautifully themed picture instead. It’ll always win first prize in my books

I’m going to make a real post for two seconds. Yall wanna know why people still support the big man up top even those he’s supposedly done so many bad things? Two words, big words, and they mean a lot and more than people will ever know: CONFIRMATION BIAS!!!!!

It means people are going to choose to believe the evidence that caters to their point of view over the evidence that doesn’t. That means they will disregard anything if it doesn’t fit what they believe. It means once they see the world one way, it’s borderline IMPOSSIBLE for them to change their minds because of the biases that have been drilled into their ways of life, the ways of life they have been allowed to live for centuries.

It is a weapon that people have and will always use to justify anything to make someone look better than they are. The world has let them think they are right for so long because confirmation bias exists in the very book we are made to swear on when we are put to trial, a book that so many of us have stopped or maybe never believed in. It exists in the movies and media so they can say “look how dangerous they are and look how we are right”.

It exists in how they talk about cities like Oakland and Detroit and Compton, the cities that America has FOUGHT to keep their names tainted so they fester with the rot of a government that has long abandoned them. The rot of broken streets and families forced to move because they aren’t considered worthy of better pay to afford the homes their grandchildren have known since they could remember. They take our rights to medicine so we die faster before we see the future of endless work for our children so they are too tired and distracted to see what this world is becoming and do anything about it.

It exists in the lessons our schools let us learn while neglecting the truth, the REAL TRUTH of why we live the way we live today, and how we lived then hasn’t gone away but has been hidden under layers of privileges that they allow us to have only to keep us quiet and agreeable. So that we continue to stare in the face of unjust cruelty and discrimination and say “well at least things are better than they used to be”.

It exists in the childhood experience of being perceived as different, how being different is wrong and strange when all the difference in the world has done was push us further away from where we would have been had things stayed the same. We still fight over light and dark knowing damn well those two are far from the same, but one cannot possibly exist without the other.

It exists in the consequences of the actions of the colonizers long gone from this world their mixed children remain to live and suffer in, in the last names of black children who’s ancestors had their names stolen from them, under the very land we have lived and died in that they continue to build over.

It continues to exist because so many people have been taught to perceive themselves as powerless to stop their own mind being overcome by bias..
