The Value of Being Media Information Literate
In this era, the question of veracity is the most common flag that is raised by the mass. Media being a system of communication, information and entertainment; has now surpassed its boundaries. It is not only defined by oral or print, but has also reached millions of people all around the world through screens, which in turn made possible by advance technology. Though we could now say that its scope has gotten larger and better, this could also mean that, as sources of information gets more and more diverse it could reach the point of anonymity. Where there is unregulated data swimming through cable wires reaching each individual, delivering information that are either reliable or the latter. And this gave birth to the emergence of the so-called fake news.
This is where media information literacy comes into view. It teaches individuals to become knowledgeable about the variety of information given by the media that are displayed before them. Hence, the basic value of being media information literate is to become knowledgeable. Knowing how to access, retrieve, understand, evaluate, use, create, and share information that is valid and credible. Another value is possessing integrity and becoming a proper citizen and netizen following certain etiquette and netiquette.
Being literate in this field will aid you in valuing the word ethics, learning to sift information and scrutinize its contents. There are a whole lot more advantages you could get from being media information literate and is still counting. I’m guessing there are no disadvantages from becoming one. I mean, it wouldn’t hurt learning a thing or two or much better, learning everything. Just remember, knowledge is like fire; too little and you’ll freeze, too much and you’ll burn, just right and you’ll get by.
Angelo (ahn-je-loh)
Hi! Well…I’m not good in writing and my introductory skills is quite poor so please be nice in reading my introduction. Hi again reader my name is Nickolle Angelo E. Dawa, by the way that “E” in my middle name is Esperanza which means hope in Spanish. I’m in the 16th year of my not too adventurous life ever since my mother kicked me out from her womb when the clock struck at exactly 6 in the 6th evening of the cold nights of December at this amazing city called Davao in year 2001.
Are you familiar with Saint Nicholas? The bishop who’s known for being generous? If you know him, then congratulations you now know me .99% reader. My name Nickolle is from him, though I don’t really have an explanation for the slight difference in spelling, all I really know is that it’s for my name’s unique factor. My parents decided to name me after him because my birth date is on the day of his death, quite creepy but yes that’s where it came from. Now, for the Angelo in my name, we all know that some of our mothers are into soap operas and dramas and my mother was once one of them, she stopped because she said soap operas weren’t like before. Back to my second name, my mother was a fan of Pangako Sa’yo where the leading actor’s name is Angelo and that’s it voila! There you have it, the origin of my name.
I’m not good with adjectives too, so I think I can’t describe myself with the right words, but I believe I’m unique and I’m insanely different from others. If you want to ask about my personality, my likes and dislikes, and my hobbies I think that I’ll find it hard to answer because I think I am a different person every day, weird right? I like things this day and hate it the next day so there’s no particular thing that I like and hate. I can be a fun and at the same time a boring person, you’ll see –if you just hit the right button. My hobbies are surprisingly normal like doodling because doodling is an acceptable hobby right? I hope so. Just remember carpe diem –seize every moment and smile.ciao!
