I’ve got some big news!

I’ve decided to shut down my company, One Part Scissors.

It’s been a very difficult decision for me, but one i do believe is timely and necessary. 

I started One Part Scissors with 2 friends in 2002, straight out of college. It’s been a huge amount of fun along the way, and i think we’ve created some excellent design work.

But the stresses of running the business have slowly drained the joy out of my day - it’s time for me to plug into a larger team and recapture that love for design. 

So, from 1 September 2015, I will be joining the team at Pixel Power. I’ve been working with Morne and the team over at Pixel Power for a couple of years, and we’ve worked on some great projects along the way. Pixel Power does SEO and online marketing as well as offering the services that One Part Scissors does, so it’s a great fit for me. 

I will be there to offer my skills in web design and development, as well as graphic and advertising design. So if you’re a One Part Scissors client, we can certainly still work together - we just now have a far superior team around us! 

To all my awesome clients, i want to thank you for your support. it’s been awesome, and i hope we can work together in the future.

I want to thank my long-suffering wife Audrey, who has endured the stresses of business ownership with me - it’s not been an easy way to make a living, and it’s not easy on one’s partner, this entrepreneurship thing. So i want to thank her for her support all these years. We’ve got good things ahead, baby! Thanks again, everyone, and we’ll chat in September.

Bryanston Bible Church updates their website theme annually. For the 2015 refresh, One Part Scissors has created a website theme that makes use of expansive, immersive images that convey the personality of the church, along with modern, current treatment of text and layout.

Along with a brand new website design for the Brough Leadership Insitute, a new personal website for Andrew Brough, OPS created brand new business cards. The new business cards feature a clean, modern design to tie into the websites, and makes use of dramatic production features to make the business card memorable.

The AIRCURE range of products is innovative, exciting, and forward thinking. The website we designed a few years ago was beginning to look dated, and no longer presented Aircure accurately - it was time for a refresh.

OPS designed the logo and website theme for the recently launched food blog Bibby’s Kitchen @ 36. Dianne Bibby runs cooking classes, and the food blog was a natural extension of this.

The latest is this informational flyer to be used at expos and through the showrooms, featuring general company information on the reverse, but with a clear, simple attention-getting front cover.

One Part Scissors is revamping the websites for all the companies within the GOSCOR Group of Companies. The second in the project to go live is the Goscor Group site, goscor.co.za. The Goscor Group website makes use of the new Goscor theme, with the professional, dark blue colour scheme of the Goscor Group logo.

The website features a news center that will eventually stream its news dynamically to each site within the group, allowing GOSCOR to post news items once, instead of 10 times in a row.

The locations map allows visitors to see the national footprint of the GOSCOR group of companies, and the product listing page allows visitors to browse the massive and perse offering of products, and pinpoint which companies within the group offer the products in question. 

    The website is responsive, as with the rest of the new Goscor websites, so the website dynamically displays correctly on smartphones and tablet computers.

The website refresh project spans 10 websites in total. The websites were already all based on the Drupal Content Management System, but the websites themes were looking dated, and were not all uniform enough to tie them together as a single group of companies. Some of the websites were on the latest version of Drupal, version 7, while many were still on Drupal 6. Many of the essential SEO modules were not installed, and the feature set across the websites differs vastly. Part of the project is making sure that all the websites offer Goscor the same functionality - all the sites should have the same types of galleries, product catalogues and google maps.

Our first job was to create a Drupal 7 version of the old websites themes, and upgrade all 10 sites to Drupal 7. Thereafter, we began work moving all the websites onto the new themes, and creating fresh new home pages for each site. 

Once the homepage for a site was ready, we made the new theme live, and enabled the extra functionality, such as new product pages, new google maps pages, and so on. We also ensured all the SEO options were correctly configured.

One of the main frustrations with the websites of the Goscor companies was the lack of consistency when it came to website functionality. The Goscor Power Products website has benefitted from this overhaul project's drive on consistency, in that it now has a useful and easily navigable product section, which operates in the same way as the other Goscor websites. 

  The website is responsive, as with the rest of the new Goscor websites, so the website dynamically displays correctly on smartphones and tablet computers.

As part of the rebranding of SevenC, One Part Scissors has completed the overhaul of the SevenC website.

The new website is built on the Drupal content management system, and the theme is responsive, so the website dynamically displays correctly on smartphones and tablet computers as well as regular computers.

SevenC's website uses JQuery to allow the website to have iPad-style smooth scrolling on the website.

The website has excellent SEO modules in place that ensure that the website is correctly and regularly indexed by search engines. 

The new SevenC website features a series of 'action links' that hover on the right side of the website to call the visitors to engage with SevenC.

One Part Scissors continues to create advertising for OSRAM South Africa in the trade journals and magazines, as well as designing point-of-sale and other marketing materials from brochures to clothing and posters. These are two of the latest adverts, running in Vector Magazine and SA Jewellery News, promoting the LEDVANCE range of lamps.

One Part Scissors was approached by SevenC Computing to redesign their corporate identity.

The logo OPS designed for SevenC makes use of a strong, heavy font with a bold, confident personality to announce the word 'SevenC'.

The SevenC symbol is a exceptionally minimalised '7' numeral, that is encircled in the letter 'C', allowed the symbol to stand alone in certain contexts.

Along with the logo design, OPS created a Brand Manual, which dictates usage of the corporate identity. This living document is vital to any corporate identity, in that it ensures that the logo will always be used consistently and correctly.

With the corporate identity revamped, work has commenced on a new corporate website for SevenC - stay tuned to the OPS website for info on that project.
