Finally an update !! earlier this month i started itching for more room in my planner + so this week i started up a new planner in an A5 leuchtturm1917 (link).

Having an A5 planner used to be out of the question for me as i didn’t feel it practical to carry around, but i’m a lot less mobile in my 3rd year of uni + will be even less so next year after graduation!

I wanted to see if it was possible to combine my bullet-journal and personal journal/sketchbook as i’m always carrying them both around separately + was struggling to remember to keep on top of them both. Idk how well this idea will work out but i’m very hopeful, and excited to think that each completed book would almost be a full catalogue of my experiences at the time ?? yessssss

I bought a plastic notebook cover on amazon (link) that fits it perfectly + im excited to slot postcards in the front and back of the book !!!

Habits to get a high GPA

I’m going to talk in first person because this is my plan to reach one of my most important academic goals: to get (and maintain) a high GPA.

Note: this is based on today’s prompt for the March study challenge by @littlestudyblrblog -what do you want to achieve this month?

My university classes officially start this month, so I want to get into some habits before it’s too late, they are:

 Use the library: Don’t want to be that kid that only remembers the library when exams are approaching.

Study everyday or every two days: I think we already know that you retain information better if you constantly revise it.

Try to do more than asked. Just because there is no homework, it doesn’t mean I can’t practice or learn more.

Take classes seriously: Education is expensive, so there’s no right for me to skip for no valid reason or not paying attention.

Join a study group or something similar so I can practice with other people and see if we can help each other out.

Today, I have written my agenda for the remaining weeks of August using @studyquill‘s new printables! They’re adorable + functional. P.S. This is the first time I’m using a printable and I am so in love. I really should try more others.

To help move away from summary and toward ANALYSIS, it’s important to incorporate strong verbs into your writing when discussing the writer’s rhetorical choices. Below is a list of verbs that are considered weak (imply summary) and a list of verbs that are considered strong (imply analysis). Strive to use the stronger verbs in your essays to help push yourself away from summary and toward analysis: ex “The writer flatters…” NOT “The writer says…”

STUDY TIP! THINK LIKE A TEACHER

So I tried to recreate the nerd teacher emoji and ended up with an egg-head with glasses and a bow-tie. Disclaimer: It is not the intention to portray all teachers as male nerdy egg-heads. Right, random comments aside. Here’s the tip…

Why would we ‘Think like a Teacher’.. and how does that even work.

1. CREATE TEACHER-TYPE QUESTIONS. When you’re studying a specific subject create as many probable questions that you may find in an exam, and as you do this ‘think like a teacher’. By doing this, you are hugely immersing yourself in the scope of the whole topic and looking at it from all angles. This preps you to learn the subject fully.

2. CREATE NOTES THAT ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS. When you write your notes from the textbook, class or other sources, ensure that your notes are comprehensive enough to be able to answer the questions you created. You can even write your notes under specific questions. And go even further as to replicate an exam situation as you study by answering those questions fully without checking your notes. If you can do this without any issues, then you should be fairly prepared. 

3. IF YOU WERE THE TEACHER, WHAT WOULD YOU TEST ON. Try to crawl into your teacher’s head (that sounds weird, but you know what I mean), and really analyse what they would prioritise as the important aspects of the subject. Also try to recall what they emphasised in class, or what they repeated constantly. This would be a huge hint. 

4. RAISE YOUR STANDARD TO TEACHER STANDARDS. Be able to write and provide answers to questions as if you are an authority on the content, and simply raise your standard of knowledge of the content. Go beyond the scope of your teacher’s expectations, by reading and researching even more on the subject. The more you know, the more you will elevate your knowledge and standards. You can’t go wrong by doing this. You may even enjoy digging deeper into the subject matter.
