Hot take: Music at concerts sounds like shit without earplugs. You know why that is, though? Because the person doing the sound-balancing at the concert is either 1.) wearing earplugs, so the sound is balanced for someone wearing earplugs; or 2.) is not wearing earplugs and so likely has damaged hearing.
please for the love of music wear earplugs, or loops, or something. I went to a Static-X concert once and I couldn't hear anything for three days after because I forgot mine and figured "sure, no problem, if it gets too bad I'll step out". I did not step out, they are way too good.
earplugs by far make the music better - the band is wearing them, the mixers and audio techs are wearing them, you should be wearing them. Live music is for feeling the music, and ear plugs would never stop that, but they also get rid of the highs from the speakers that everyone finds unnerving.
Wear earplugs. Protect your hearing.
If you can't do ear plugs like me(miniscule ear canals that make it legit painful) I highly reccomend getting a pair of those ear muffs for gun ranges and industrial work. You can get 'em pretty cheap and they work great!
Look for different sizes of ear plugs too, i used to have the small-ear-canal-can't-find-plugs-that-fit-without-hurting problem but they make more sizes now.
You can also go to gun shows and they always have booths where someone will make you custom molded foam ear plugs for a very reasonable price.
You can also get moldable silicone ear plugs that can be shaped to sit in the shell of your ear and don't have to go in the ear canal.
Please wear ear plugs at concerts!
You know how after a really loud concert everything sounds muffled for a few hours or maybe even a day? Yeah that's permanent hearing loss. Even when it feels like things have gone back to normal, they haven't. PROTECT YOUR EARS.
This week, I read a fic that was around 20 years old, which had originally been posted on the author's personal website and which she added to AO3 a few years ago. She listed her email address with the fic, so after I finished reading, I sent her an email saying how much I enjoyed the story, how much I appreciated the work and effort she obviously put into it, and thanked her for uploading it to AO3. She responded the next day and thanked me for my message, then said she had a few more stories in the same series that she hadn't gotten around to uploading. I checked this morning--she added a 35,000 word novella and thanked me in the summary.

tumblr is, if anything, the Appalachia of social media...easy to get lost, sparsely populated, out of the loop with fast-moving modern trends. Attached to tradition. Close-knit communities. Believe in "talk shit, get hit." Everyone is doing their own thing in their own obscure little holler. Prone to pulling the most inventive turns of phrase you've ever heard out of nowhere. Somebody's always starting a racket. We sometimes repel outsiders with much aggression. Lots of talk about hell and damnation to be found. Everybody tends to forget about us for some reason

hi gang. reminder that we are some of the best sweaters in the animal kingdom (second only to equines) allowing us to stay cool and keep moving in hot weather. we have 10 times the density of sweat glands compared to other great apes.
we are ALSO insanely good at smelling rain (specifically geosmin, found in the soil and activated by rain) with the ability to smell 10 parts per trillion. this is speculated to have helped our ancestors survive!
we ALSO have absolutely batshit diets compared to most other animals. caffeine and chocolate are completely toxic to most animals but we can eat it without even feeling sick. even avocados are severely toxic to many animals to the point where it can be fatal to eat, but humans love it!!!
we are ALSO the best endurance runners ON EARTH out of ANY other species. we beat horses in endurance running. you know, the animals that gradually evolved away most of their toes in order to be the best runners?? yeahhh.
and to top it all off. our lifespan is unusually long for our species' weight/mass. typically, the bigger a species is, the longer its average lifespan (e.g. weasels live for 1-2 years, whales can live over 200) but we're very small for how long our average lifespan is. big cats like tigers live around 14-15 years, brown bears 25 years, yet here we are expected to live around 75-85 years. that is NUTS.
humans as a species are so extremely cool. it's not just our intellect that makes us amazing. we may not be the fastest or the strongest in the animal kingdom but we're super cool in many other ways. next time you sweat you can go wow!!! humans are so cool I'm able to keep moving because of my absolutely insane number of sweat glands! thank you evolution!
Someone at an old job asked why I wanted to write up the meeting minutes for our team and I said 'i wanna control the narrative' and they were like 'what' and I pointed out that no one was gonna remember what we said in six months and so my interpretation of the meeting would dictate the assumed reality of what happened
