It wasn't so strange that the oddball and the outsider formed an interesting couple. If only they weren't two men, with a large age difference, living something doomed to nothing.
Guy knew nothing beyond that strange island with its strange secrets. He dreamed of leaving, sometimes, of experiencing something beyond being a (student) lawyer stopping one neighbor from stealing another's chickens. But he would never actually do that. Trading familiarity for a completely unknown world? That was too much of a risk.
Jasper just wanted to take his well-deserved vacation (accumulated after many overtime hours and no time off on holidays). He takes a trip to a tropical island where the Wi-Fi is weak and everyone knows each other, with the most beautiful scenery and the perfect climate for him to relax.
After they meet, it's quite simple. A longer exchange of glances in a small convenience store, listening to rumors about each other. They start hanging out. Guy shows him around the island, revealing places that aren't so well-known to tourists or even locals. Jasper has the summer off to enjoy with this man, and he's never been one to deny himself what he wants. So, it doesn't take long for the flirting to escalate to kisses with Guy, in order to make him realize his intentions. The kisses intensify, the make-out sessions at Jasper's rented beach house also progress, the sex is incredible. Guy isn't a virgin, nor innocent or naive, but Jasper introduces him to things he'll never forget.
Late afternoon gatherings on the beach, smaller lagoons, picnics on piers, moments of tension and pleasure. Romance. It's a perfect summer. That ends too quickly. Guy knows Jasper will leave. Jasper knows he can't ask Guy to go with him.
Then he simply leaves. One night, at Guy's house, with Jasper watching him sleep. He gets up, leaves a note, and goes back to his own house to get his things and go to the pier, where a boat will take him to the nearest town, from where he will catch a plane. And he will never see the man he fell in love with that summer again. Or will he?
Guy wakes up and Jasper is gone. The note is more than that, it's a letter.
Guy told Jasper all the reasons why people call him "fuckin' weirdo", why they avoid him, why he avoids people, things about himself he would never tell anyone else. And he simply left.
Jasper will never know that Guy would have gone with him if he had simply asked.
Guy will never know that Jasper would have stayed if he had simply asked.
plagued with the thoughts of jasper finally turning guy. his first fledgling made out of LOVE and DEVOTION and this is making me sick i’m throwing up blood i’m crawling up the walls i need to be put down. jasper taking care of guy while he struggles with his baby vampire self… so fucking tender.
