There are three ways of introducing plot twists.

There are the twists a very attentive reader could guess beforehand based on the information given. The hints aren't obvious, but if you read carefully, you can complete the puzzle.

There are twists you could not have guessed, but once the twist happens, everything suddenly falls into place. Like one puzzle piece is missing, then you find it in the place you wouldn't have looked for it and boom - suddenly you have this new picture, but everything makes sense.
