[TRANS] Wooyoung's Vogue Girl - Interview (June Issue)
Wooyoung's going to change, through a better image, to a better direction.
VOGUE GIRL (VG) : We didn't know that it'd be raining this much. It's such a shame that we couldn't take the last cuts we supposed to take.
Wooyoung (WY): I feel the same way too, but that's okay. Generally, today was nice. I'm not the type who like to force things to happen according to my own please in such an unfavorable situation anyway. But regarding the mood of this place, even if the sky were suddenly cloudy and we got wet by rain, I feel so good!
VG : First of all, we'd like to thank you for proposing this idea first. You're a person who originally have a great planning ability, right ? We're curious on how you could come up with such a scene.
WY: I've been having those experiences these past seven years. Like being featured in photoshoots are actually influencing myself (with such great ideas). It's great to have this kind of opportunity especially when you have so many scenes (/ideas) you want to try. Actively proposing the idea, but I'm not the type who controls everything at the set, I'm more the type who entrust it to the staff. Because they're the talented people who are chosen because they're the best at their field, right.
VG : As we live, there must be a training period. It will slowly turn you from a vaguely-oriented person to a well-oriented person as you keep doing the assigned trainings. Even your taste becomes vivid, we wonder if the training also helps you bring out your stronger true own color.
WY: The most interesting part is how you craft new ideas. When we're preparing new albums we members always reminding each other because we always have things to worry about. What are the things that others haven't done ? was the thing I always think. But then when we come up to the stage, miracle happens.
Not that I try to rely myself more as a soloist or have more greed to do solo, but the truth is, the growth of my own power contributes to the team's upgrade just as much. And in the end it's not just me who's being improved but also the whole team too.
VG : We believe that those improvements will help you to 'draw an even bigger picture' than now.
WY: Based on that meaning, I endow the words 'style' with an even bigger meaning. For me, doing music isn't just merely about singing, composing, writing lyrics, or playing instruments. It also means you have to think about where you sing, what to wear, what pose you'll do, what mood you want to build. According to my opinion, that's what music is.
VG : Is there any possibilities that the music you enjoy the most is actually different with the kind of music you're doing?
WY: Being in different various situations in life, you couldn't help listening to various genres of music as well. Lately I'm so into this duet group called 'Rhye'. They're a duet group from Denmark & Canada. It's so nice to listen to them on a rainy day like this. But that's just the music that I like. The music that I do, in fact, has to be the music that connects with fans.
VG : Have you ever been influenced by a work of art (like movie) ?
WY: If you watch the movie <Billy Elliot>, you know that little Billy lives in a small village. He's trying so hard all alone despite the hardships he's been through. While watching the movie, I keep saying to myself that 'Whatever happens, I should try to be like that too'. I still watch this movie a lot even till now.
VG : There must be some periods that makes a guy change their values of life several times, right?
WY: I am most certainly like that. To be honest, because I want to know how it feels like to get involved in something actively and even do a proper interview like this. I myself even curious about what stories and answers I'm going to say. Back then, I liked (being an idol) because of the big stage. It was such a happy thing to experience, for having people knowing you as an idol. I was so lucky to be a part of such a big company like JYP, but then the (Wooyoung that you know now) was merely just nothing at the start. Living as an idol is really hard and you have to get through all the painful package within it. That's why If I look back to the past, I come to sense that what I have now is just so precious. I come here not for nothing, but if I think about the future, of course I also have a lot of fears. Like everytime I prepare myself for a performance, I always wonder to myself 'Will I ever be able to stand up at this stage again?', 'Will I be able to impress all these crowds?','Can I really showcase my great performance in front of all these people?', 'Can I show my perfect dancing skills in front of them today too?' all those kind of questions. It's still such a horror for me too sometimes, but then again, that's what makes it even a more precious thing worth treasuring. Everything. The more time goes by, the more I feel like I shouldn't just do (these idol stuff) recklessly. In the future, if I had a chance to sing just alone, I want to do it in a very small space. A small space where your voice would still be heard even if you don't use any mic at all, accompanied by a small band or just piano. It would be great.
VG : What about now ? Are you happy ?
WY: Back then I only feel happiness when I dance but now, with every moment of my life, I feel happiness all over. And even though the fans might be sad when they hear about this, but recently I myself really wanted to take a rest for 1-2 year. I want to rest in order to be able to properly reach the next level that I want to reach. But the truth is, one moment, without I even know it, I start to feel uncomfortable and uneasy regarding that stuff. And then I went to my closest sunbaes, seeking for counseling, and they did say that for a person who've been working in this industry for about six years, it is normal for me to have such thoughts. But then again, that time it was just my own thing (and I keep it from everyone else). That's why during leisure time I often do the things I love, if I grab my pencil then I start to draw, If I grab the game machine then I start to play games, and that way I start to be able to reduce the pressure I've been feeling.
WY: This is really the first time I talk about this (laughs). Ever since I was a kid, I really like things related with designing and arts. That's why it makes my heart lighter when I do that. Music and arts, they both help me express myself better.
VG : We originally thought that you're a person with cute personality but turns out you're actually way so different with what we thought.
WY: Everyone says so. Recently, when I appeared at 'Radio Star', netizens said so. The members of course know my serious side. But for the sake of variety shows, I think I also need all those cutesy. Because the main purpose of variety itself is to make people laugh and healing, right. And I think it is necessary for me to do my best in a given situation like that.
VG : And then what about the image that you show on MBC We Got Married ?
WY: To be honest, that image is similar with my real life image.
VG : Have you ever experienced a true love ?
WY: Hmm, let's see.. Of course I've seen so many times in movies or dramas. Watching all of that, I'm still wondering will there be a person who would love me just as much as that. Do you know what comes to my mind when I watched <Romeo & Juliet> 'If my girlfriend is that pretty, will I be able to love her that much (laughs)? A mere guy like me, am I a guy who really could sacrifice his life for someone (like Romeo did)' I once thought about that. And frankly speaking, if that really happens to me, I still don't know if I'll be able to do it or not.
VG : As your value of life gradually changes, is the same thing happen to the way you see love too ?
WY: Back in the past, I gave my everything just like a fool. Waiting till the end, and that's why I was hurting so bad, but as time goes by, because of that I feel so grateful. Because there are still people out there who couldn't experience that kind of love. Once time flies, there will come the timing for you to fall in love. You know that right? (Even if sometimes) I still greatly miss those days. The days where I can be so innocently in love.
VG : Compared to the other members, you seem like the person who's passionate about love the least. Why is it ?
WY: Because I'm trying hard not to make it as a source to stir up problems.
VG : What's your most important charm point ?
WY: My voice. I'm a person who can really interpret what kind of person I'm talking to through conversation. There's almost nothing like fall in love at the first sight in my dictionary. I'm a type of person who prudently build relationship based on how we spend time together.
VG : The fans are waiting for 2PM (comeback) news.
WY: The preparations are all done. Everything's set. We will release it around summer.
And in my case, I've been involved in various works. And maybe I'll see you later through an acting job someday.
By the way, once this edition comes out, I'm pretty sure that the fans will be freaking out about this. Because they're gonna love it.
VG : Can we talk a little bit about future ? What would the old-aged Wooyoung be like ?
WY: If I can really live that long, I'm gonna be so thankful. I'll probably stare at a very big mirror at my house. Listening to loud music while looking to my wrinkled old face. And the expression would be.. well it may be different depends on how I live my life at that time.
