The first time you saw Grizz was on your first day of school.
He was so tall and handsome that you couldnât help but stare at him.
His smile, his hair, everything about him was so perfect. And yet, you couldnât bring yourself to like him in that way.
You two met in front of your locker, since his was next to yours.
You had some problems with the lock and him, so chivalrous, helped you with it.
âThere you goâ he said, with a beautiful smile that showed his dimples.
âThank you, youâre a life saverâ you answered, smiling too.
âNo problem, My Lady. Nameâs Grizzâ
âIâm Y/Nâ
Days went by and you two became very close. You did a lot of things together: studying, playing football (or at least you tried), listening to music, sleepovers.
His friends were always telling him âdude, you should ask her out!â, but he was a bit hesitant, even though they didnât know the reason.
You, on the other hand, were not aware of the situation: you loved Grizz as a good friend and couldnât think of anything else with him.
So, the day he asked you out you were surprised: you just stared at him with wide eyes and open mouth while he was scratching his neck.
You closed your lips, biting them, and took a breath.
âGrizz, I..â you started saying with trembling voice.
But, when you stared in those big watery green eyes, you couldnât say anything but yes.
After that, he embraced you and kissed you with a strange passion meanwhile his friends were cheering for him.
You two were really happy and things didnât really change: there was more kissing and making out, but the rest was the same.
Often the two of you would disappear when people started asking too many question about your relationship, because everyone was so interested in how that happened: a football star and a newbie together.
You didnât care about the rumors and you found your little heaven, far from civilization: a cute garden with cherry blossom trees at the end of the woods.
You just stayed there for hours talking and sometimes also staying in silence, because there werenât any awkward moments between the two of you.
You two were lovers, but most of all best friends.
After some time you started to notice that your feelings for the tall boy didnât change: you still saw him as your friend and not your boyfriend.
You knew that being with him like that was wrong, but you didnât want to break his heart.
So you stayed by his side, always so kind and sweet.
You also remarked that your eyes, when they werenât reading or locked into Grizzâs, were stuck on one person: Elle Tomkins.
She was a lonely girl that was in most of your classes.
She had blue eyes that resembled the color of the ocean and long blonde hair.
She didnât smile much and had often her head down, probably because of her shyness.
You werenât really friends, but sometimes you talked.
On one sunny day you were walking to get to the store when you met Elle.
She was kneeling down so that she could pet a black and white dog.
With your heart that was pumping really loudly, you approached her.
âHey Elle!â
At first she seemed startled by the sudden noise but when she saw you, she smiled widely.
âHello Y/N!â
âHow are you doing?â You asked, smiling back.
âIâm fine, thank you. What about you?â
âIâm good. So.. who is this fella here?â
She caressed the dogâs hair and looked at you.
âHis name is Charlie. Say hello to Y/N!â
âHi Charlie, you are so prettyâ you said, bowing down and petting the doggie with a sweet expression on your face, that didnât go unnoticed by Elle.
She blushed at your happiness and put a lock of her hair by her ear.
âYou are prettierâ she mumbled, trying to cover her voice.
âWhat?â You asked, turning to her.
If thatâs possible, she turned even redder.
âUhm, I asked what were you doing hereâ
âOh, I was going to the store. You know, buying some suppliesâ
She nodded and stood up.
âThatâs coolâ
âYeahâ you looked at the time. âI should goâ you exclamed smiling sadly.
âUh, wait. I was wondering if one of these days you wanted to hang out.. with me..â she suggested timidly.
Your eyes sparkled and you answered with a âIâd love toâ.
And that was the beginning of your beautiful friendship.
You began to hang out a lot:
at your house, where your mom stuffed her with food and pratically adored her;
at her house, where you two could be alone, just enjoying each otherâs company;
also with Grizz, who was a bit astonished by your friendship, but also really happy about it.
You bonded really quickly and deeply: when she wasnât with you, your heart ached because you missed her, even if it was only for a day.
And that made you think: why did you miss her that much? Maybe because she was one of your bestest friend? But then, why didnât you miss Grizz in that way since he was your boyfriend? You couldnât get a rational answer.
Days became months, and you were starting to understand the reason why you didnât feel anything for Grizz in that way and why you did with Elle.
You realized slowly, day after day.
In the beginning it was only you wanting to spend more time with her, and that could be pretty normal for friends.
But then things changed.
When you were with her, you watched her face closely so that you could remember her features better.
You wanted to hug her, to kiss her nose, her forehead, her lips.
You hated your mind for thinking those things about her, but you couldnât help yourself.
You cried and screamed into your pillow because you didnât want to be like that.
But when more time passed, you began to accept yourself, after doing some researches.
You werenât alone and you werenât a vile creature, as some people said.
You were you and you didnât have to hate yourself for that.
You wanted to tell Grizz, but prom was close, so you thought that you could wait after the party.
The day of the prom came and you and Grizz went to the school grounds together, hand in hand.
You glanced at your holding hands and you bit your lip sadly.
You still cared about the boy dearly, but not in the way it should have been.
You entered the gym that was decorated with ballons and banners of all colors.
You looked around to see all kind of people: there were the very elegant ones, the ones that didnât want to dress up that much but still came and the jocks, who were whistling at you and Grizz.
You approached them and your boyfriend started talking to them while you were shifting your feet uncomfortably.
Then, like a light in the dark, you noticed Elle who left you gasping for air: she was wearing a blue dress that covered half of her thigh, her hair were straight as always but they were boucing because of her quick dance.
She was stunning and all you wanted to do was going to her and kiss her in front of all the school, but yet you couldnât.
Her eyes lit up when she saw you and she went near you.
âHey Y/N! You look..â she bit her lower lip. â..lovely tonightâ
You smiled. âThanks, you donât look too bad yourselfâ you said winking.
She blushed and took your hand.
âCome dance with me!â
She dragged you onto the dance floor while laughing.
You started to swing your hips at the rhythm of the music and so did Elle.
You were really enjoying yourself and didnât think of anything else until someone touched your shoulder.
It was Luke, who was looking at you with apologizing eyes.
âHi Luke, whatâs up?â
âItâs Grizz. Heâs a bit, no, a lot drunk and..â
Your eyes widened. âWhere is he?â
Luke pointed to some seats: he was there with the good-looking and deaf kid named Sam, who had red hair and turquoise peepers.
Sighing, you went there and you stood in front of them.
âHey Grizz, how are you? Your friends told me you drank a bit..â
âI didnât, Iâm fineâ he scoffed, slurring his words and still looking at the other boy.
You shook your head and took his hand.
âLove, we should goâ
âI donât want to!â He pouted like a child.
âPlease, Gareth..â
He stood up, still sulking, and said goodbye to Sam.
âIâm sorry if he disturbed youâ you signed.
âDonât worry, itâs okayâ he signed back, smiling.
You nodded, signing goodbye and taking Grizz outside.
âWhy did you drink so much?â you asked softly.
âJust âcauseâ he answered, scowling.
âYou donât have to do this with me, you can be honest. We are a couple, and without trust we are not going anywhereâ
He looked at you with watery eyes and bursted into tears.
You hugged him tightly and comforted him.
âSsh, donât cry. Everything is alrightâ
He continued crying until there were no tears left.
âAre you feeling better?â
He licked his lips and nodded.
âDo you want to talk about it? Maybe when youâre sober?â
âIâm not sure, I donât want to hurt you..â he whispered.
âYou wonât, okay?â
âBut what if..â
You hugged him again, cutting his words off.
âStopâ
âOkay.. can we go home.. please?â
Without saying anything, you put his arm around you and started to walk home.
âBut the car..â
âDonât worry, darling. The car will be here tomorrow morningâ
You arrived at your house at 1 am and quietly you put Grizz to bed, after taking his clothes off.
âWait Y/N.. can you stay here with me..?â
You looked at him with sweetness and sat on your bed.
âAlrightâ
After you took your dress off, you lied down next to him.
âThank you, youâre the bestâ
You chuckled. âIâm not, but okay. Goodnight Grizzâ
When you glanced at him, you saw that he was already asleep.
You closed your eyes too, and drifted to sleep.
The next morning, you woke up thanks to the rays of the sun that entered from your window.
You mumbled and rubbed your eyes.
Grizz was at your side, still sleeping and drooling a bit.
You suppressed a laugh and stood up to put on some clothes.
âHey angel. Where are you gooing?â he muttered, taking your arm and throwing you back to bed, hugging your side.
âGood morning to you too, sleepyheadâ you said, kissing his cheek.
âWhat happened yesterday? My head hurtsâ he whined, rubbing his temple.
âYou drank a bit too muchâ you joked.
Grizzâs expression changed and stayed silent.
âWhat is it?â you asked preoccupied.
âWe.. we have to talkâ
You nodded, watching him closely as he straightened himself.
âI.. I..â he started saying with quivering voice.
âTake your timeâ you said quietly while drawing circles on his naked skin.
He released his breath and turned to see your face.
âI.. I like boysâ he proclaimed, with fear in his eyes.
You were looking calm and smiled.
âThatâs okayâ
âNo, itâs not. Itâs like I.. I always lied to you and..â he explained freaking out.
You took his face onto your hands.
âGrizz, look at meâ
He reverted his peepers and now was staring at you.
âYou didnât lie, you just didnât want to break my heart and thatâs really sweet of youâ
âArenât you.. angry?â he asked.
You shook your head. âWhy would I?â
âWell, because we are together and..â
âI know, but if you arenât happy, you shouldnât force yourself to stayâ
âNonono, you were perfect, reallyâ he said while taking your hands in his. âBut itâs just that I.. I canât love you in that way..â
You suppressed a laugh, because those were also your thoughts about him.
âI feel youâ
âW-what?â he asked a bit lost.
âI feel the same way. I do love you, but as my best friendâ you said while playing with your ring.
He glanced at you with his mouth open.
âWait.. you also..?â
âYeah. I like girlsâ you proclaimed, biting your lips.
He chuckled and hugged you.
âWe.. we were so stupid..â he said, still laughing.
âYep, we were. But it took time for me to accept myselfâ
âThatâs normal. I discovered it when I was thirteen so.. yeah..â
âThirteen? You were so little. But I guess there isnât a right age to understandâ
He nodded, then he lifted his pinkie.
âStill best friends?â
âStill best friendsâ
After this episode, the two of you stayed best friends and came out together to your friends.
The football players were shocked but they accepted you anyway.
You also told Elle, that was really happy to hear that. She kissed you in the lips with her cheeks so red and you obviously kissed back, as your dream and desire became true.
After that kiss, you started to date and were really in love with one another.
Also Grizz came out to Sam, and the two of them started going out.
So, in the end, everything went how it was supposed to be.
