does anyone else feel like jonesy was kinda the odd one out in zeppelin? like robert and jimmy were obv always eyefucking and robert and bonzo were friends pre-zep but i feel like i never see jonesy being close with any of the other members

Jonesy and Jimmy kind of knew each other pre-zep because of session work, and it probably meant something that Mo recognized Jimmy and thought it would be good for John to join his band. Jonesy and Robert also worked together a lot later on in Zeppelin while Jimmy was… um…. incapacitated 😃. So there’s some stuff there. But you’re right, he always was kind of on the sidelines when it came to bonds as a group. I like to imagine him being close with Bonzo, due to them both being a very very tight rhythm section, but I feel like their personalities don’t really mesh, and Jonesy being the kind of person he is wouldn’t take the personality shifts from Bonzo very well. Plus then after Zeppelin he was heavily excluded from all the Page/Plant action, I think partially because Bonzo wasn’t there as a buffer or simply because he didn’t find appeal in working with them (I don’t blame him) other than the fact he just wasn’t invited to.

If I recall correctly there was a time when Bonzo and Jonesy went off somewhere together (I want to say Dominica? But I’m probably wrong on location) while Jimmy and Robert located to Miami after Robert’s car crash in Greece. I have tried to look for information on this before, and couldn’t find anything, so I could be totally wrong, but I thought I read somewhere about it.

i too like to think that jonesy and bonzo were close both being in the rhythm section: ) but god, i forgot to mention the Page/Plant thing as an example! poor thing. however, the clip where jonesy says "thank you to my friends for finally remembering my phone number" while looking at Jimmy and Robert provides some comfort to my soul. fucking love that guy
