i will be extremely selective on this blog & will only follow back people i intend on writing with. if i don’t follow back within a week, assume that i will not intend on doing so. it’s nothing personal - i prefer to have a slow dash and only see content from people i write with, and from fandoms i’m familiar with. if i do follow you back, however, i very much want to write and plot with you!

this blog will be heavily plot-based, and i prefer longer threads to short ones. i very much enjoy character and story building! if you would like to plot, feel free to reach out to me in IMs; mutuals can also ask me for my discord, too, but be mindful that i will be slow on these platforms as well. memes are also a great way to serve as icebreakers and to kickstart a plot, but just keep in mind that i’ll be pretty liberal about deleting memes if we haven’t plotted beforehand and i can’t think of something that will fit the prompt.

due to the nature of the mcu, there will be mentions of triggering themes such as violence, blood, war, etc. these will be tagged with #trigger cw. nsfw / smut content will be tagged with #mature cw. i will under no circumstances write smut with muns that are under the age of 18. if you have anything specific you would like me to tag, please let me know respectfully. i have no triggers myself, but please tag any nsfw posts so my blacklist can catch it!

“s’this all for me?” and there it is again, that tell-tale blush on her face; she’s simply not used to this kind of attention. the past few years of her life have been so hectic that she never had the time to think about anything serious—but now here she was, with someone she liked a lot, standing at her door. leah leans forward to take in the fresh, wonderful scents from the bouquet. “thank you. these are gorgeous; where’d you get ‘em?” there’s already a spot by the kitchen window where she’s thinking of putting them, in that vase she got as a gift once but never filled with anything other than plastic flowers. “c’mon, what’re you waiting for, come in,” taking the other’s hand, she leads her through the doorway. “dinner’s almost ready.”

steve wakes at the creak of his door.   it’s not loud,  but it takes very little to pull him out of what little light sleep he does get.  the right shift of light outside could do it,  so could a strong wind,  his best friend stepping just past the entrance is only one thing on a list of many.  he pushes himself up onto an elbow,  reaches over to his bedside to flick on a lamp and winces when light floods the room.  bucky looks  …  tired,  reasonable for the alarm clock that reads 3:28 AM and being one of two residents that rarely sleep well anyway.  there’s something else there he can’t quite read,  too.  caution,  maybe,  or hesitation,  though towards what steve can’t say.

❛  yeah,  buck,  c’mon.  ❜    he lets his elbow fall out from under him,  whole-body wiggling back to the right,  away from where he’d sleep-drifted to the middle.  it’s an effort to avoid making too large a tangle out of the blanket around his legs,  but he half manages.  it won’t last forever,  but for now steve bites his tongue on questions,  concern,  on his instinct to say that there has never,  ever been a need to ask.  it’s always yes,  with bucky.  if he asked to move into steve’s room entirely he’d be helpless to do anything except start making room in the closet.  instead of doing something stupid like voicing that,  he pulls back a corner of the cover and pats the empty space there.  ❛  all yours.  ❜

he’s startled out of sleep again, not for the first time that night [...] it’s difficult to find peace even in the lull of dreams, when so much of his life has been shaped by violence. the winter soldier rarely ever slept, and when he did, it was more often than not whilst encased in the icy cold. even after his time in wakanda—cut short by the onset of war and a tragedy he wasn’t alive to see—, being welcomed back into a world that actually wanted to give him a second chance, there were certain habits he had yet to unlearn. like how to get a full night of sleep without bolting upright in the middle of it, gasping like he was running for his life [ and maybe in his dream, he had been: so unused to being the hunted after decades of being the hunter ].

doesn’t know what prompts him to do it; to linger by his friend’s room instead of taking up residence on the living room floor once again. the creak of the door gives him away, makes him voice his request laced with uncertainty and hesitance; and he’s caught off guard by how quickly steve agrees. he has been  /  is still willing to do so much for bucky—and there’s a part of him that doesn’t know how to feel about this knowledge, let alone know what to do with it. “thanks,” it’s not more than a whisper into the dark. the smooth metal of his dog tags clink gently against his chest as he makes his way over to the bed, laying down on one side so as to not take up as much space. a lingering image remains in the back of his head [ a flash of a memory of them doing this exact thing when they were more wide-eyed and innocent ] as he pulls his half of the blanket across his middle, not yet shutting his eyes. “you still like hoggin’ the bed, huh?”

“how ‘bout this: i’ll leave you be for as long as you want, soon as you tell me what’s wrong.” this was just how it was sometimes, this push & pull. she’d been unnaturally quiet since the beginning of the week, avoiding his gaze; and in a house as small as this [ that used to be boisterous and bursting to the seams with life until tragedy struck, again and again ] it was hard to not take notice of that sort of thing. he’s seen this sort of behaviour, dealt with worse instances of it—when steve’s ma died he’d sort of... shut down for a long while—and gotten through it all. there’s a dull ache in his gut, tightening in his chest as he approaches the door to her room; he suspects he knows that this is about the letter that had arrived at their place not too long ago, the same one that had collected able-bodied men from all over their neighbourhood and shipped them overseas. and if he was going to be one of those people, well… he didn’t want to leave it on a bad note. taking a seat next to her at the edge of the bed, bucky huffs out a breath before speaking. “you know you can tell me anything, right?” always. even if they were no longer those innocent kids.

breath leaves her lungs in a hiss once she feels the cotton ball, soaked in alcohol, pressed against her side. it had been a standard enough mission, taking care of some HYDRA grunts before they could do any more damage with the avengers scattered and broken due to the accords. what she hadn’t anticipated  /  planned on doing was spending her evening gritting her teeth and grimacing, sweat beading on her eyebrow as she deals with the aftermath of a stab wound to her side. distantly she realizes there must have been more than met the eye with that dagger, considering how woozy she already felt [ or maybe that was just the blood loss ]. “shit,” she curses under her breath at the stinging sensation against her skin—this was always her least favourite part. “could use some of that super healing right now,” she jokes, voice a little weaker than she would have liked.

the stranger is already on the move by the time she registers that there’s something in her hand. karli’s movements are inconspicuous as she unfurls the little note and reads the contents, written in a hasty scrawl. only three words, thirteen letters and yet they make her gut twist and coil in uncertainty. their plans for the world were grand and sweeping, but more than that, their plans left little room for a margin of error. if any of the pieces did not fall into place the way they should have… hands ball into fists, crumpling the piece of paper until she can feel it protruding against her skin. when she finally looks up the woman has almost disappeared from her field of view entirely; the back of a blonde head pushing past the doors. perhaps it’s naive of her, to think that this is the only lead she has left  /  only answer to her questions, instead of some trap. but in the same breath, she’s pulling her hood up over her shock of red hair, discreetly weaving her way through the crowd until she can catch up.

“trust me, i know,” there’s a knowing smile on her lips despite herself, the kind reserved only between siblings—something that says i told you so and love ya anyway, all rolled into one. after all this time, it’s good to have sam back. for so long, the family home had been so eerily still, photographs on the walls of people she lost smiling silently back at her [ and yet her own grief was not quite so quiet ]. and for so long, she’d struggled to balance motherhood with the business, the last of her family’s legacy standing on shaky legs. she wasn’t sure what she had been expecting, when all of them had returned—maybe a change in her own life as drastic as the one the world had just gone through—but at least now sam was back home, and joking with his nephews, and there was laughter in the house when there used to be so much quiet. a nod to the rusting parts scattered across the table, at her brother’s confused expression as he scans the manual, “‘specially if you think doin’ that is gonna get the engine to work.”
