why do they translate it as Nobuhara "Old Man Jokes" Aren't they just bad puns? Whats so special that people dont translate it into "Puns" or "Bad Puns"?

The word for bad puns is Old man jokes, because they're so commonly made by lame old dudes, like your grandpa and your dad. That stereotype is super strong in Japan, as well as America. I'd translate it as Dad jokes though, because that's what we usually call them here.

I mean, think about it. Dads saying "Hi hungry, I'm dad." when you say you're hungry. That's the level of joke we're working with here. Except Nossan sometimes bends over backwards to make them and I'll be watching the raw just like UGH OH MY GOD STOP.

1. I wouldn’t pass military screenings due to chronic illness. 

2. I don’t speak farsi or arabic, which would be the kinds of languages they’d need. 

3. What the fuck kind of a question is this? Who are you to speak to anybody like this about what they want to do with their free time?

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the whole Kamen Rider Gridon/Ornac debate.

Short answer: “lol”.

Long answer: There’s plenty of good reasons to translate it (including the fact that the joke is explained in the dialogue of the episode) and we’ve yet to see anything convincing about not doing it.

Our only complaint is that there isn’t enough evidence to say Hase’s “Kurokage” is meant to be as tryhard 2edgy4u as it sounds and therefore translate it to BLACKSHADOW, really. (No one laughed when he introduced himself, so it seems like they’re playing it straight within the show, so we understand the decision.)

Gridon’s name (and the spelling of Sengoku, to address the umlaut hater brigade—we don’t even like it that much, but you guys are a new level of mad) is really dumb to Japanese speakers too, so if you’re saying “but it looks dumb”, then the translation is doing an accurate job. You’re supposed to think Ornac looks stupid. Because it is. Because Hase is a tryhard who thinks anagramming “Acorn” is an appropriate naming scheme.

Besides, there’s a script right there for you to find + replace on. It’s not that hard. I promise, I did it for the entirety of Aesir’s Fourze!

First of all, they’ve been using this title for Kitaoka for a few episodes now and haven’t used that top note until now.

Second of all, it still means that.

The closed captions do read “Orange Charge” for this line, but it audibly says “Orange Sparking” (and the toy verifiably says the same).

Keikaku means… don’t ask us, go see “Keikaku: The Movie” from 1980! (And though they do give us a translation, we’re back in so-literal-it’s-useless mode: what English speaker would ever think “decoy for a leader” upon hearing the words “shadow warrior.”)
