Throwing it back to a weekend in Nanyuki. 2017.
Being an artist in a digital world get difficult by the day. You don't decide what your audience sees. I decided to explore making this digital space feel more real. By having an online exhibition. Just like any other exhibition, when its time comes, Malindi.ism will be taken down, only available to those who decide to take it out of the online world into their own physical spaces.
Travel Photography has always been one of my favourite styles of photography. Being able to document daily life in places I am not as familiar with has opened my eyes to the cultural diversity that exists around me. Last year I was lucky enough to spend two beautiful months in Malindi, Kenya, today I can share the experience I had there through images shot on iphone, film and DSLR. Follow the link by clicking the image to view the album.

I've been away from home for so long I forgot what it feels like to be here. I'm starting to believe that home is really just a feeling and not a physical space. I cant wait to sit down with all the images I created during my trip to Malindi. A time for reminising as well as a fresh opportunity to appreciate the beaut of diversity-in relation to culture.

Black Girl
This image reminds me of a scene from Ousmane Sembenes film, Black Girl. The women sit by the corner everyday, desperate for work. In this case however, the situation is different, the women have been stripped of their source of income, their place of work. They now sit by the corner, antcipating their next move. Who knows, maybe they will end up back by the corner, but this time, in a manner similar to the ladies in the film; desperate for work. The cycle continues.
Tuesday afternoon commute in the big city.
Image from Pursuit of Portraits Nairobi. Shot on Ilford HP5 film. This Instameet was interesting for me because there were so many people, all shooting the same thing. It was difficult to not only find a creative edge, but also an opportunity to learn how to create in a space sorrounded by so many other people, all creating. I must admit, I did get a bit overwhelmed.
