So sorry I've been MIA...again. College has been crazy as I'm getting into actual major stuff. Next semester will be even worse seeing as how I took up 17 credit hours on top of work and cosplay and now being in a relationship. So yeah...things are hectic to say the least but I'm loving every second of it. Played in makeup again and became my inquisitor, Aneira Lavellan, just for fun. Might actually do this for Halloween or something, not quite sure yet. I was nervous to go to overboard with the eye makeup but probably would darken it up if I do this again. My Zevran wig (an imladris classic in ash blonde from arda, got it a lot longer than zev's so I can cut it to the length I want) and elf ears came in today and I played around with being an elven princess for a little while. Full costest of Zevran coming soon but I'm loving just being an elf in general XD maybe now Solas will love me

Nagisa’s Witch Hat Tutorial

As promised, here is a tutorial on how I made my Nagisa Witch Hat:

First I used a stiff black felt and sort of just eyeballed everything. I fit the base to my head but other than that I just cut random shapes and hot glued them together to get the basic shape. The day after I took this picture I ended up deciding that the hat was too tall and that the front was too long especially so I cut a lot off. Even after that it still ended up being pretty huge, proportionate to the brim at least, but still big.

 The felt had a lot of hard edges and my final fabric was too thin to smooth them out, but luckily I had some spare fleece lying around from my Shiny Umbreon Kigu which helped to create a softer shape. The fleece is just wrapped around and hot glued to the felt at the back.

Next I glued on my other two fabrics. On the bottom of the brim is a dark purple lining fabric that isn’t pictured (because I’m dumb and didn’t take a progress picture of it). For that I just glued along the outer edge and up in the hat to make sure any visible felt was covered. On top of the brim I cut an x into a square of fabric, pulled it over the main hat part, glued it down just along the outside edge and tucked the inside edge under the fleece. For the main part of the hat I got another square of fabric, wrapped it around over the fleece, and sort of just hoped for the best lol. Like the fleece, this fabric is hot glued at the back of the hat and left loose on the rest. I used a fairly large piece of fabric  so that it would be wrinkly and look floppier. 

For the belt I just used a cheap square of black fabric from Walmart. I sewed two sides together along both long sides and one short side and turned it inside out. I repeated this then sewed the two short ends that were left open on each half to make the full belt. I put the seam at the back and then wrapped the belt around and glued the overlap onto the belt itself. I made sure the belt ended more to the right than in the middle of the front so I could hide the overlap with the buckle.

Lastly I made a buckle out of craft foam and painted it silver and glued it onto the belt. And that’s it. 

My hat took me somewhere around 7 hours to make from start to finish. Making the felt core took the most time at around 4 or 5 hours because I’m a perfectionist and couldn’t get it just right lol. This is close to being my favorite piece I’ve made for a cosplay (after my faun headpiece and staff of course) because of how fun and adorable it is XD. I was worried I wasn’t going to like it when I was finishing up the felt part, but after I got the fabric on I fell in love lol

Sorry for being MIA again this summer I just haven't really been working on much and have also just been forgetting to post on here cause I'm a dumb nut. Anyway, I'm currently working on Halloween Nagisa Hazuki for Youmacon this fall which I'm really hoping I'm still attending (I'm actually ahead of schedule on a cosplay!? What!?) and this is what I have done. I'm really pleased with it so far. I made the hat and cape myself (the fabric is super soft) and I got a blazer to alter into a vest and the shorts from a thrift store. I just ordered some orange tights to paint purple stripes on and need to alter the sleeves on the white shirt I also got from the thrift store and add the belt to the hat. I plan on posting photos of the steps I took in making the hat soon and making a short tutorial with that. Also I got my pictures back from my faun photoshoot so I will be posting those soon too.

This weekend I experienced so much pride for my best friend. This biznitch entered her first cosplay contest with an original character and won judge’s choice! She overcame so many fears and worries and I teared up when I went to congratulate her. I am beyond proud of the things she’s accomplished and can’t wait to see where she goes from here and hopefully she continues to let me experience this journey with her #indypopcon #indypopcon2016 #cosplay #cosplaycontest @ktoon1228 (at Indiana Convention Center)

Well sadly Indy Pop Con 2016 has come to a close. It was an amazing weekend full of shopping, cosplay, panels, meeting new people, and hanging with friends. This was my favorite con by far because we got even more involved in everything than last year. The people were all so friendly and many memorable things happened. We almost didn't get our hotel room, my friends got to meet some of the guests they were excited for, and I won the judges choice award with my OC faun The Gatekeeper in the cosplay competition which I'm so grateful for. I can't wait for my next convention (whatever that may be) and to see where the future takes me with cosplay

So good news and bad news...well not really bad but just not good lol:

Good news: I’m done with my first year of college in about a week :O 

Somewhat bad news: I keep switching between two cosplays for PopCon so I have no idea what my Sunday cosplay will be (-_-) XD

I’m sure I’ll figure it out by the con (most likely the week of) but until then the confusion continues

Horns Tutorial (kind of?)

Hey all. For those of you who were curious and wanted to know how I made the horns in my last post, here’s what’s under the paint.

Basically I just layered EVA foam and sanded the absolute crap out of it. I ended up using five layers of the same size and one smaller. The layers are hot glued together and I used both a belt sander and dremel to shape them. Then I used wood filler to fill the cracks and carved the details in using a different dremel bit. Finally I sealed the foam with Plastidip and painted them the desired color.

Marceline Photoshoot

Hey fellow fanpeople! So I finally got around to doing a photoshoot for my Marceline cosplay :D which was a lot of fun to do. Below are some of my favorites from the shoot. Photo credit goes to my mom lol she was awesome and edited them for me too.

Hey guys, gals and non-binary pals!  

So I have some exciting news!! My group of friends (most of whom were with me at Indy Pop Con last year) have decided to join together and form a YouTube group :D We’ve always sort of talked around it but now it’s becoming real pretty fast. 

So what does this have to do with The Cosplay Corner and all of you? Well I will be moving my tutorial making onto YouTube hopefully beginning in March. By making videos rather than long posts I’m hoping it will be easier to follow along and explain how I made certain aspects of my cosplays.

Now the channel will mostly be gaming related (Let’s Plays, Reviews, etc.) but we will also have a cosplay component with tutorials and maybe some vlogs at conventions and cosplay showcases. We are super excited to finally start something we’ve always dreamed of doing.

**Edit: Slight change in plans. I will still be moving tutorials and probably showcases over to YouTube starting in March but they will be separate from the group. I will be doing gaming videos and maybe convention vlogs for HodgePodge but tutorials will be on my own channel. Since I’ve been doing them on my own with The Cosplay Corner for awhile now I figured I would keep it separate as I continue on. Also seeing as how HodgePodge is primarily a gaming channel it made sense to keep it that way and do cosplay outside of the group. I will most likely post finished projects and such here as I finish them but the tutorials will be on YouTube. I have a few projects with tutorials lined up for March as my group prepares for Indy Pop Con

Hey fellow fanpeople! Long time no post....

So it’s looking like I’ll be at Indy Pop Con this year with my squad! I haven’t completely decided what my cosplays will be or what days I will be wearing what but it’s looking like Marceline, Cat Woman (just from clothes I have and this one is a big maybe right now), and Shiny Umbreon (another big maybe) are the main contenders. I’m having a ton of trouble because I want to do a bigger cosplay but I can’t think of any that will be done in time :( I was going to go as Dryad Soraka but I completely wasted my winter break and didn’t get anything done so that one will most likely be pushed back to another con. Hopefully I can figure it out soon

Anyway, are any of you going to Pop Con? If so, do you have any cosplays planned?
