Congrats, Mama Laurie! This woman is one of the strongest, hard working women I know. She reminds me of those stories where the mom is in labor, still attending her classes. Laurie doesn’t let anything get in the way and she does everything with an amazing sense of humor. Motherhood comes so naturally to her. SFX Makeup! This was such a fun look to do! Glass stuck in the foot. I used 3rd Degree silicone to build the wound, Ben Nye thick blood and Makeup Forever Flash Palette for the bruising color. The “glass” is actually a crushed piece of CD cover. The part that’s inside the wound is the edge of the CD cover, which gave the plastic more stability in the wound. It also made it easier to pull the glass out and place it back in for multiple takes, if necessary. I worried about making the glass too much a part of the wound and it lifting the entire wound in one take, so utilizing that edge of the plastic really came in handy. This is actually my third time doing a wound, all practice being done that day. I’ve always done beauty and some bruising, but never SFX like this. I did a few cuts on myself throughout the day and studied how it would look if someone did step on a piece of glass a minute prior to pulling it out and prayed it would turn out okay. I think I’m pretty happy with this one.
