i’m not, i’m pointing out that this particularly way of going is solely done for cis people, with no consideration for trans people. there’s reasons we’re angry and there is more than enough horrible situations of trans characters getting outed (or worse) in media already. this is nothing new. people need to stop and listen to trans people when it comes to trans things. we had hope for representation without this kind of thing, they gave us hope - and did the same as everything else.
yeah i get it
i have also received this impression that the clip was more like a dramatical way to educate the cis people than an actual way to normalize and support the trans community
what can i say
we all had high expectations
we got just another drama
i believe that although, the fact that we did get not what we had expected we at least get something. like u know any representation is a step forward, it can open a lot of doors (for example: for better represantation in the future). Like I said before, after watching Druck I feel much more aware of the problem than before and I think a lot of people do too. And that means something. Every step forward means something.
sorry we don’t enjoy being exploited and hurt and triggered just so cis people can get some insight they should have already had. you can show realism with a trans character without traumatizing them. david explaining to matteo why he had to change schools would have done the EXACT same thing - unless cis people just don’t want to have to do some thinking
why are u making me feel so bad about being cis. it is not like we are other species, you know. i though we fight for the same: to be treated equally. but i feel like you're doing the exact opposite.
the way Druck handle the topic of transphobia could be different sure, but the way they did hadle it, is not so bad, because it has a potential to make some changes and that's what we need.
Clip was powerful
Yea, it was too dramatic. But it did one thing. It caused that people were touched. And if 2 minutes of show can touch people that much, it means that it has a meaning. Happy clips surely would be nice but they would not make us feel like the world is unfair. It would not make us feel how big is the problem of transphobia. But this shit is fucking real (sorry but that's the true). Druck's aim is not to make us feel good, it is about to make us feel aware. To make us feel that world needs a change. It is a trigger for us to do everything we can to protect people who did not deserve to be hurt. Like... We should stop living in the bubble and expecting happy ending, if we want happy ending we have to work for it.
And I understand the disappointment. But I really think that this show is not about making us comfortable. It is about making us aware and ready to fight for human rights.
Personally, thanks to Druck I feel much more aware. Honestly it have opened my eyes on things I did not know anything about earlier. And I have so much power now to scream against hate and unfairness of today's world.
Happy representation would be really cool. But the fact that Druck decided to handle this different way is not a bad thing and it does not make the show bad.
the truth
i know i talked about this in this tag before and i’m kind of sorry but, yk, not really.
jonas posted this on instagram yesterday:
[so basically he links to a video of climate activist greta thunberg and talks about the effects of climate change and promotes taking action against it.]
soo.. uhm. let’s talk about climate change! i am sure that most of you already know some of these facts, but i just want to get through them again, because i believe that only few are really aware of how big this problem is.
so to begin with: the ipcc (intergouvernmental panel on climate change), which is the most important scientific panel on global warming but actually is in its reports more conservative than not, gives us less than 11 years to gain control over the climate crisis. 11 YEARS.
what happens then you may ask?
to this day we already have a warming of ca 1°C in comparison to pre industrial level. in the paris agreement all states have promised to keep global warming under 2°C better yet under 1.5°C. the effects of climate change can be seen today, thousands and millions of people have to face floodings, fires, storms, droughts etc. when we will reach 2°C all of these will be much extremer and causing starvation, mass migration and wars. but that’s not it.
the most dangerous effect of a warming of 2°C are so called climate tipping points.
let’s use an example to explain this: we can see that the arctic ice is melting and very soon we will have summers without ice there at all. this is problematic in itself (rising sealevels, floodings, etc) but the real problem is that the (melted) dark water absorbs much more light and warmth than ice. while the frozen arctic reflects about 90% of all sunlight and only absorbs about 10% of it, it will only reflect ca. 10% once melted. so in the end it will be another cause for global warming.
another example and probably the most extreme: permafrost soil. once we reach a particular temperatur (around 5°C warming) the soils are going to defreeze. for millions of years greenhouse gases have been stored inside of them and they are all going to be released. and just to illustrate how problematic this is: the amount of greenhouse gases inside of permafrost soil is around four times bigger than all of the greenhouse gases we as humanity as a whole have produced since the industrialisation. four times bigger.
but we won’t reach a warming of 5°C you may say? it’s a common misunderstanding that many people have, simply because it’s not communicated enough, but.. we will.
i gave you only two examples of climate tipping points, but there are many many more out there, all of them intensifying global warming. scientists say that starting at a warming of around 2°C we could experience this phenomen called ‘runaway climate change’. it basically means that the first tipping points will cause a rise of temperatur that is enough to reach the next tipping point and the next and the next and so on. we, as humans, won’t have any control about these processes anymore. so.. yes, we will reach a warming of 5°C some time in the future. and to be honest i don’t even want to imagine how our world looks like once the permaforst soils defrosted.
but let’s take a step back, because.. there is still hope right? i mean all states have promised to keep global warming under 2°C. yes. yes, they have. but not a single one (i could be wrong here, so please correct me if i am) is reaching their goals right now. and to tell you the complete truth: i wouldn’t even be enough if they did. the ipcc report from 2018 states that we will reach a global warming of ca 3°C even if every single state does exactly what they promised to do.
so at the moment there truly is no hope. we are faced with the biggest and most complex crisis humanity ever had to solve. and governments and people in power do nothing about it. they don’t even tell us the truth about what is happening.
so we need to stand up. we need to inform ourselves, we need to share that knowledge and we have to take action.
please, just take one minute, maybe reblog this and and try to imagine what our future will look like if everything continues like it does right now. i believe, that even if it is exhausting, this is the one thing that’s worth it to invest your time and energy into no matter what. because this impacting the life of every. single. human. on this earth.
we need massive changes and we need them now. because we have less than 11 years to prevent a runaway climate change that will cost us everything.
no matter where on this earth you live, you will be a affected. you will be a victim of severe wether, of floodings, droughts etc. there will be wars about food and water, billions will have to emmigrate from where they live and billions will starve.
this is the truth. and in the end: we won’t make it. if we don’t stop the climate crisis right now, earth will go on, yes, but humanity won’t.
this is the last call to action.
don’t know where you start, where do i begin
