The omega paces around the room, her scent overwhelmed with anxiety as she waited to hear something, anything, from Jiwoo.
It's been a couple of weeks since the Hanni and Sooyoung left the pack and joined the SKZ pack and made themselves at home in their new apartment. It was a pack effort to move them in, to clean out their place quickly and settle them into their new apartment but with no interference from Crystal River โ it was a quick effort. The pups have settled in, excited to explore, while Hanni and Sooyoung managed to work out a routine rather easily.
They were the easy part. A lesbian couple and two pups? They had absolutely no value in the eyes of Crystal River and its old ways. Jiwoo, however, was having a harder time due to Sangyeon demanding he keeps her pup.
She can leave. Sunwoo cannot.
Sitting down on the couch, the omega pulls her phone out of her pocket and stares at the blank lock screen as if willing a text to come through. Chan had left earlier after Jiwoo called him in distress; as if to punish her for trying to take Sunwoo, the Crystal River Alpha had told her that she has 24 hours before she needs to vacate the pack territory. He had thrown her out. Mikyoung had wanted to go but since Jiwoo and Sunwoo were relocated closer to the pack house to keep a close eye on them โ Chan told her to stay home.
It was to keep her safe, she knows this. Sangyeon still hasn't given up in his grand delusion that Mikyoung will return home and Chan wasn't going to allow him to get close to the woman.
"I'll call you soon, hm?" The Alpha had placed a kiss on her forehead to help settle her nerves. "Order something for lunch and try to relax, petal. Don't worry your pretty little head, remember?"
It's what Chan always told her whenever she seemed to get worried or anxious about something going on. Not to worry. Not to stress. He'll take care of it. And she trusts him, of course she does, she trusts Chan with her life โ but why hasn't he called?
"You have to give him back!" Jiwoo cries, trying to step forward to reach her son but an arm is placed out in front of her. Changbin and Minho flank Chan on either side, the wolves having gone with him to collect the pup, and Jiwoo was kept behind them. Guarded, protected. "Sangyeon, you can't do this. He's not your son. Please!" She pleads, tears in her eyes as she watches Sunwoo trying to break free of the hold the betas have him in.
The young pup, after slowly coming out of his shell, had agreed that he wanted to leave. He had decided that he liked Chan and trusted Mikyoung when she said he was a good Alpha, but even though he was ready to leave โ he was still scared of Sangyeon. The poor pup was still scared to disobey him so when he was told to go and see the older wolf, he went without argument, only to be roughly grabbed and held captive.
That's why Jiwoo called Chan. After kicking her out of the pack, Sangyeon had effectively kidnapped her son and was refusing to give him back. She called the Alpha to help, to try and find a way to resolve the issue because she'd rather die than leave Sunwoo behind.
Sangyeon shakes his head, sighing and shrugging his shoulders as if this wasn't a gross show of his power. The pup was being used to show that he holds the cards over her and her pleading was simply proving that he controls the situation โ or did, until Chan turned up. "I have provided for him ever since taking over as Alpha, Jiwoo, are you really going to tell me I haven't been like a father to him?"
Chan doesn't allow the conversation to go further as he steps forward, his expression neutral but everyone can tell that he's not pleased by the situation. "If Jiwoo wants to leave, and her son wants to follow her, then those wishes should be respected. As his mother, the pup is an extension of her โ not a belonging that the pack can keep." His voice is steady, strong, filled with authority.
While those around him might be willing to avoid a fight by following his request โ Sangyeon wants to push. There's a twitch of his lips, a cruel smile creeping its way onto his face before he smoothes it out. "Alpha Chan, have you somehow decided to become the saviour of wayward omegas?" He tilts his head, chuckling as he notes Mikyoung's absence. "Where's that little omega of yours? Too scared to bring her home, hm?"
The silence he's met with doesn't seem to deter him and the look on Chan's face certainly doesn't scare him. The other wolf is on his territory with two of his pack, not including the new rogue, what could the blonde do to make him give up the pup?
Stepping closer, Sangyeon gets into the other's personal space. "You should leave while I'm being generous. Take the omega and leave the pup. She can make more anyway." A cry sounds from behind Chan as Jiwoo drops to the ground, with Changbin keeping her from being completely on her knees, begging for her son.
Chan simply looks at the other, the look itself one that would make anyone step back, quiet and unimpressed by his 'show' of generosity. "I'm a part of the supernatural board." Chan's voice is calm, unwavering, and holds enough coolness in it to cause a shiver to run down the other wolves' spines. "I can get your whole pack exiled and have the pup returned to his mother." He takes one step closer, lowering his voice to prove his point. "Continue to challenge me and I will have you run out of town."
Tension crackles the air, hairs stand on edge as the betas prepare for what is gearing up for a fight. Changbin has Jiwoo moved to a safe distance almost instantly, the betas holding Sunwoo are ready to step in at any moment, and the Alphas stand nose to nose for longer than comfortable. Their scents would make lesser wolves submit immediately but everyone stands their ground as if waiting for the hit to come.
A laugh leaves Sangyeon's lips as he pulls back. "No need to resort to threats, Chan." He lifts a hand and waves it at his betas, "release the pup. Let him go with his mother."
Jiwoo pushes past Changbin, running straight towards the sprinting Sunwoo, wrapping her arms around her son and holding him tight. The sight should ease the blonde but he can tell that Sangyeon hasn't finished with the way he's still standing in place.
"However, if you continue to take members of my pack, I will have to retaliate. Do you understand me?" The wolf growls, his smile forced, annoyed as his voice lowers. "And if that happens, I promise you, I won't claim Mikyoung for myself โ I'll rip her pretty throat out." Before Chan can say anything, Sangyeon steps back and his mood shifts almost instantly, showing how crazy he really is. "Anyway, I look forward to seeing you next time, Alpha Chan."
When the phone rings, Mikyoung rushes towards it and answers it as quickly as she could. Her nails have been chewed to the quick, she cleaned the kitchen, her bedroom and her reading nook due to her anxiety. "What took you so long?!" She scolds, forgetting herself for a moment since she was so worried despite being told not to be. "You said you would call 'soon', it's past 'soon'! It's now 'later', Chan! What happened? Are they okay? Are you okay? I should have gone with youโ"
"Mikyoung." The tone Chan uses has the omega immediately going silent. Her concern is slightly amusing, adorable really, but it's better to keep her from continuing lest she sends herself into a spiral. "Deep breath." She does as she's told, a deep inhale in followed by a slow exhale out. "Good girl."
The woman collapses onto the couch, grabbing a throw pillow and hugging it tightly. "I'm sorry, Alpha... is everything okay?" Her tone softens, the concern still there but it's more subdued than before.
He answers with a hum, "everything is okay, petal. Why wouldn't it be?"
Oh, she doesn't know. Maybe because the person that was practically holding Sunwoo prisoner is a psychopath with a superiority complex and loves to feed off the distress of women. That might have something to do with it. Though, if Chan says everything is okay, who is she to argue? Who is she to say otherwise?
"Are you on your way home?" Another hum answers her and she nods her head as if to confirm to herself, "can you tell me what happened when you're back, please?"
There's a pause, a brief one, and for a moment, she thought maybe he'd say no. "Will it help you relax?"
"Okay, we'll talk about it when I'm back."
