I started watching the summer hikaru died yesterday obviously, and finished it the same day. And I just wanna talk abt some of the topics in it that I 100% understand and or relate to. The first being Hikarus struggle of wanting to be fully human but not being able to understand how to do that. I think being "human" is something that a lot of people tend to struggle with, me being one of them. There is no right or wrong way to it, and thats part of why its so difficult. There's no guidebook. As for hikaru here, he wants it so bad that hes trying to figure it out without anyone besides yoshiki to guide him, while yoshiki doesnt entirely understand it either. Hence why in the last episode he called himself the monster, and explained that Hikaru was NOT in fact a replacement for the real one. Even the (dare I say fake) hikaru is his own seperate person. He may have the formers memories, thoughts, history, and life. But he doesnt have the experiences. He doesnt have the EMOTIONS that the first hikaru felt. And I think thats something really important that is kinda hard to think about. Is it the experience that makes someone human? Or is it their morality of their choices which defines that?
Next is Yoshikis obvious struggle in understanding how he feels abt hikaru. As someone who struggles with this same thing and how I feel about myself (and or how I identify) this is something that really interacts well with the time we live in right now. Its a struggle and its one that not everyone can accept. But the fact that Yoshiki even told Hikaru himself that there was no right way to feel (or something simillar) its hard for him to understand that himself. I would explain more on the topic but due to my struggle of fully understanding this as well, im gonna put that off.
Anyways, I think there's even more than this that holds a great relevance to humanity, people, and the audience of this specific show/manga. Its more than "haha eldritch horror takes over my bestie that ran off to the mountains and I gotta save him" its deeper than that. Its "what does it mean to be human? And do my emotions and experiences determine my worth and humanity?"
