âThe problem, often not discovered until late in life, is that when you look for things in life like love, meaning, motivation, it implies they are sitting behind a tree or under a rock. The most successful people in life recognize, that in life they create their own love, they manufacture their own meaning, they generate their own motivation. For me, I am driven by two main philosophies, know more today about the world than I knew yesterday. And lessen the suffering of others. Youâd be surprised how far that gets you.â
Neil DeGrasse Tyson (via buildings-on-fire)
The solution or the problem?
What happens when you keep on choosing the problem over the solution? The problem keeps on coming back. Over and over and over again. The problem only gets larger and larger, so the solution is harder to find. I am the solution and each time I go farther into my own darkness. One day you won't find me. And when that day comes there will be no solution. -E.L.V.
You're the only one I want to talk about my day with.

True happiness means forging a strong spirit that is undefeated, no matter how trying our circumstances.

I love this band!
It does no good to think in any way negatively about yourself. Not even a little good. Besides, none of those thoughts were accurate anyway. Most of them were exaggerations, and some of them were completely âmade up.â So tell yourself the truth about yourself: You are wonderful.
Neale Donald Walsch (via yogachocolatelove)
Although it is a gloomy view to suppose that life will die out, sometimes when I contemplate the things that people do with their lives, I think it is almost a consolation.
Bertrand Russell (via sci-universe)
People say, âIâm going to sleep now,â as if it were nothing. But itâs really a bizarre activity. âFor the next several hours, while the sun is gone, Iâm going to become unconscious, temporarily losing command over everything I know and understand. When the sun returns, I will resume my life.â If you didnât know what sleep was, and you had only seen it in a science fiction movie, you would think it was weird and tell all your friends about the movie youâd seen. âThey had these people, you know? And they would walk around all day and be okay? And then, once a day, usually after dark, they would lie down on these special platforms and become unconscious. They would stop functioning almost completely, except deep in their minds they would have adventures and experiences that were completely impossible in real life. As they lay there, completely vulnerable to their enemies, their only movements were to occasionally shift from one position to another; or, if one of the âmind adventuresâ got too real, they would sit up and scream and be glad they werenât unconscious anymore. Then they would drink a lot of coffee.â So, next time you see someone sleeping, make believe youâre in a science fiction movie. And whisper, âThe creature is regenerating itself.â
George Carlin (via sunst0ne)
It sucks when someone you have feelings for doesnât share those feelings; it happens to women all the time, too. We hear âI just want to be friendsâ and âyouâre like one of the guysâ and âyouâre like a sister to meâ just as often. But youâll never hear a woman complain that guys just donât appreciate a Nice Girl because weâre taught itâs our own fucking fault when weâre rejectedâwe arenât pretty enough or thin enough or sexy enough, we werenât sexual enough or were too sexual, we put out too much or too little or too soon or not soon enough, we didnât wear our hair the right way or our skirt the right length, weâre âtoo tomboyishâ or âtoo butchâ or âtoo feminineâ, or weâre ânot their typeâ, or weâre otherwise not good enough in various ways to entice the man to grace us with his affection. But when weâre not interested in someone, weâre vilified. Weâre the bitch that lead them on, the bitch who let them buy us dinner but didnât want to date them, the bitch who doesnât appreciate a nice guy, the bitch they were nice to and then got nothing in return from. And, frankly, fuck those people. Showing interest in me, being friendly with me, getting close to me, or eating a meal with me (even if they paid for it) doesnât obligate me to open my heart or my legs. And anyone who doesnât appreciate my friendship sure as hell doesnât deserve my love or my pussy.

Each star system is an island in space, quarantined from its neighbours by the light-years. I can imagine creatures evolving into glimmerings of knowledge on innumerable worlds, every one of them assuming at first their puny planet and paltry few suns to be all that is. We grow up in isolation. Only slowly do we teach ourselves the Cosmos.
Carl Sagan (via sci-universe)
