She looks her over, barely remembering what she used to look like when they were kids. “It’s been way too long. The last time I remember seeing must have been Grandpa’s funeral. That was maybe 6 or 7 years ago. I think I was coming back from New Orleans and my mom was a wreck. Then right after we relocated to Canada. But I’m glad that I finally get to see you.”

' great choice. there are quieter areas of the city that are just as nice, if not more. no need to get involved with all that chaos. ’ winona took a seat, flicking open her phone to set a timer for the meal. fifteen minutes and it should be ready !  she smiled at her cousin’s reaction to the drink, looking up at the hum. ‘ oh ! i’m glad you like it. ’ she nods as the other explains about her job. ‘ that’s good, places like that tend to be breeding grounds for colds and double shifts aren’t going to be helping your immune system. eating right will help though. ’ winona wasn’t herself a vegetarian, not truly, but she had a tendency to lean in that direction. meat she did eat was carefully selected and prepared herself. ‘ well, portobello “steaks” are on the menu for tonight, so i’m glad you don’t mind. ’ winona nodded again at the other’s recount, ‘ mmmhm, yeah, that sounds about right. crazy to think about, though. how’s your mom been ? i haven’t seen her in just as long. ’

winona had met lilith once before, but it was quite a long time ago to say the least. their mother’s were sisters, but the distance and the money, or lack there of, was always a difficulty. when her mother let her know that lily was in new york for the holidays and wasn’t able to make it home, winona took it upon herself to play host -- inviting the girl she had grown apart from to a dinner at her somewhat shabby apartment ( though any sign of that was practically buried in the house plants the young woman had covering so many surfaces ). when she heard the knock at the door, she called, “ it’s open ! ” still puttering around the kitchen. “ make yourself at home .. i really thought it would be ready by now, but i did get a bit of a late start. do want anything to drink ? i’ve got a kettle already done, if you like tea.. ” a hand lifts and gestures behind her towards her own cup. “ it’s my own brew.. do you mind that it’s vegetarian ?   -- dinner i mean, not the tea. ” and finally she poked her head up, apologizing again. “ now let me get a good look at you, ” she added, sounding exactly like everyone’s grandmother, “ gosh, it’s been forever hasn’t it ? ”

honestly winona is a sweetheart, friendly and loyal to those she cares about, but also a bit emotional – she just feels things completely and is a bit of a romantic ( but like not just in the romance sense but like in the outlook sense ? – honestly i imagine winona as the younger version of demeter. like demeter often gets portrayed as motherly and mature, winona is demter before she got there )

winona is the daughter of a single mother and doesn’t know her father, and is currently a enivro & bio major at the local university ( currently unsure exactly what she wants to do with this .. for a while she was thinking premed cause she does like caring for others, but it’s not really her thing and those aren’t the classes she really enjoys )

so that’s why he recognised her, she’d been the one to bring round the desert thing that had served as all his meals for three days and the reason for dish at the pile of his dirty stack. kane thought about what she said for a second before turning around without saying anything, letting the door close but not shut behind him. he picked the dish out the sink, still bits of whatever it was she made him hardened to the sides before opening the door up again. “ sure, “ he shrugged, handing the dish back over before making sure his door was on latch and waiting to follow behind her - he was never one to reject free food.

when the door was unceremoniously closed without a word from him, winona furrowed her brow, and was about to raise her hand to knock again -- but then he returned and the girl titled her head, trying to understand him. she smiled as the dish was handed back ‘ did you like it ? strawberries are one of my favorites but they can be a little too sweet -- hence the rhubarb. cuts through the sugar a little bit. .. i’m just down the hall. ’ as she spoke, she turned and began to walk, tossing her hair out of the way so she could look back at him. ‘ how did you get it ? ... -- only if you don’t mind my asking... i’ve got some arnica i can give you, but some cider vinegar and parsley will probably be the best for while i heat up the lasagna. ’ she pulled open her own door, stepping inside before adding, ‘ do you want anything to drink ? ’

winona looked up with wide eyes to locate the source of the voice, and returned the other’s smile with a soft ( somewhat pleading ) one of her own. ‘ i think so ? ’ she says, holding them up ‘ just a bit crumpled .. -- thanks though . ’ her smile widened a bit. ‘ i’m winona. seriously, thanks for the offer.’
