My polls aren't meant to try to gain sympathy for Argentina, they are to point out the hypocrisy of some of you. Root for whatever country you want in the world cup, but trying to gain "moral points" for that will put you in a very uncomfortable place.
That Ronaldo's fans are Messi's haters and will say any nonsense is normal. But I'm surprised as the "Argentina is nazi" thing grew on the internet. A funny thing to say comming from europeans because you invented nazi, you colaborated with them, you had local satellite fascist regime and more important you have neonazi parties that win elections and are a force in your parlaments. The same applies to the usamericans who were the primary collaborators with Nazi refugees, helping them flee Europe via their embassies. While it is true that some Nazis escaped to Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Brazil, the majority found refuge in the United States. It is also true that the United States has its own homegrown versionâthe KKKâwhich remains active to this day.
Argentina experienced six dictatorships in its history; however, fascist-corporatist projects failed without even managing to take hold within those authoritarian governments. Like all countries in the Americas, Argentina has pursued genocidal policies against its indigenous peoples. And although much remains to be done regarding the rights of indigenous peoples, Argentina has engaged in a critical re-examination of its history. Schools teach the formation of the Argentine state as a genocidal process, much like the conquest of the Americas. I do not see other countries being so critical of their own history in their official school textbooks. Historic trials have also been held regarding massacres of indigenous peoples, such as the NapalpĂ massacre. To this day, Argentina remains the only country in the world to have prosecuted, convicted, and imprisoned authoritarian leaders in standard prisons for the crime of genocide; other such cases have taken place in international courts. This illustrates the power of historical memory in ensuring that the judiciary imprisons those who committed genocide while acting on behalf of the state. Trials for crimes against humanity continue to this day.
The fight for historical memory in Argentina has fostered scientific breakthroughs, such as the "grandparentage index"âwhich establishes the genetic link between a grandmother and her grandchildâto identify children abducted during the last dictatorship. The Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team collaborates with other nations on the identification of human remains, as seen in the case of the 43 missing students from Ayotzinapa in Mexico. These examples demonstrate the emancipatory power of a people grappling with their history in the name of the memory of the oppressed.
If you buy the twitter discourse you will think that Argentina are only some cis male football fans and that is just a small picture of a country. The same for every country if we are fair, everyone are the same inside a country? think the same, act the same?
The nazi in Argentina is something that comes from united states, to throw away the ball and not having to talk about the nazi in their house. In Argentina we don't deny our history, we discuss our history.
The debate around racism is more complex; while we don't deny its existence, we must point out that the racial categories used by colonizing nations do not apply to oursâa formerly colonized country. If you come here judging our national team based on the "Family Guy" skin-color spectrum, youâll fail to see the ancestry of this country's working class, indigenous and afro-descendant, we called here "brown identity". In Argentina, racism manifests as a form of classism rather than through those specific racial categories, becauseâunlike in the United States or South Africaâthere has never been a policy of racial segregation here since the country's founding. I think it is deeply hypocritical to criticize Argentina as if it were the only country at the World Cup with a racism problemâespecially since you don't actually care about racism; if you did, you would be listening to what Afro-Argentines have to say. Instead, you simply use the issue to justify not supporting our national team. But it doesn't matterâsupport whichever team you please. You don't need to gain moral points for that.
For all the criticisms we might level at the personalities making up our current national teamâand believe me, my objections to them run deeper than yoursâthis team still reflects this country's working class, because that is where they come from. Argentina may seem like a football powerhouse with its millionaire stars, but it is a Third World country with an economy in perpetual crisis. Players only become millionaires when they are signed by First World clubs. Here, football is something else entirely. Football clubs are not corporations; they are civil associations founded by local residents and owned by their members (the fans). Despite corruption, these clubs continue to uphold their social mission, serving as hubs for sports and culture within their neighborhoods. The players currently starring for top teams and the national team all come from poor familiesâfamilies that made immense sacrifices to help their children achieve their dreams. Anyone unfamiliar with Argentina has never seen those weekend youth tournaments where parents huddle against the cold with a "mate", exhausted from just finishing an eight-hour shift, yet there to cheer on their kids. Anyone unfamiliar with Argentina doesn't know the people whoâwithout earning a pennyâcoach neighborhood children on makeshift pitches in vacant lots, organizing fundraisers to buy cleats and pay tournament fees; they are the true grassroots talent pool from which major European clubs eventually recruit their stars.
Ultimately, the claims that Argentina bought off FIFA are ridiculous; the controversial refereeing decisions favoring Argentina aren't actually all that controversial if you listen to people who know something about football, rather than folks who just happen to watch a match every four years. The problem with this anti-Argentina campaign is that itâs orchestrated by betting companies; by paying for tweets and interactions, they can influence how people place their bets. You might not like Messi, or you might prefer another team to win, but you have to realize that certain arguments end up serving the interests of betting companies and yankee propaganda. Support your favorite team without the whining and nonsenseâif youâve got the guts.
this is a genocide too btw

it's been observed many times before but man it is kind of funny that Americans were so galled about the idea of foreign interference in the presidential election. Fuckkkkkk who would do something like that... Truly shameful behavior what kind of monstrous government would do something like that
and I don't give a fuckkkkkk if other countries from latam hate me because I'm from Argentina. I will never buy into that narrative that divides us so imperialists can conquer. yo quiero a todos los paĂses de LatinoamĂ©rica despite despite despite
