while I was watching descendants 2 the other day I wrote out a really long review of all the songs/the movie in general that I had no intention of posting but I'm gonna do it anyway ways to be wicked - wasn't bad overall. the choreo was very high school musical (which isn't a bad thing (also both kenny ortega soo)) and the lyrics were ok?? the only really bad thing I didn't like was how it was put into the movie. they really spent all that time hyping that song up in all the commercials and everything only to have it be some kinda flashback/daydream thing? that kinda sucked, but I'd give it a 6/10 I guess what's my name - ehhh. was a little repetitive to me and I didn't really like the choreo because I felt it was kind of distracting from the song? honestly if it was anyone other than china anne mcclain I wouldn't have liked it at all. it fits in the scene pretty well. also I liked the ursula cameo they put in. 5/10 for this one chillin' like a villain - again wasn't that bad. i actually didn't hate the choreo on this one? the only thing I HATED about it is that one line ben sings, "oh yeah I think I got this, let's go I'm ready to rock this", made me want to d i e, everything other than that was ok though. 6/10 again space between - cute! the scene for this one was actually pretty good, I feel like it could've been placed better? if that makes any sense at all lol. there wasn't much choreo so I can't comment on that, but the forehead touch was cute, 6/10 it's goin' down - essentially the "cabinet battle" of descendants. a majority of the lyrics were just... not good. for example "ok, look, this is not a conversation, it's a do-or-die situation, if you don't give me back the king, I'll have no hesitation, I'll serve you right here, and I don't need a reservation, that way your whole pirate crew can have a demonstration, release him now, and we can go our separate ways, unless you wanna deal with me and the VKs" I HAD TO PUT THAT ENTIRE PART because I could not STAND listening to that. the only good lyric was "your time is running out, you should really watch your mouth". besides bad lyrics the choreo was ehhh ok and again kinda over produced and distracting? I liked the clock sword thing but that's about it, 4/10 you and me - honestly by now I was tired of this movie and wasn't really paying attention but the choreo was ok? again reminded me a LOT of high school musical choreo. I liked the water effect but the song was pretty dry comparing to set it off from the first. overall 5/10 though all together it wasn't the worst movie I'd ever seen but DEFINITELY not the best. also! i think this one isn't better or worse than the first, they're kinda on the same level of not good not bad? but uh yeah that's my thoughts thanks for reading
real talk: even though a lot of people are mad about it i'm actually really excited to see how mean girls the musical turns out

Alright, I’m all for gay characters in musicals, but there’s something severely wrong with how tumblr approaches the topic. Note that my comments are not directed at anyone in particular.
In Dear Evan Hansen, there is literally no “great male friendship.” Not between Evan and Jared nor with Evan and Connor. When we see Evan and Connor interact, Connor acts violently toward Evan, insults him, and feels insulted by him (though Evan may have no such intent). The only remotely positive interaction that we see is Connor signing Evan’s cast. After that, Connor dies leaving no way for Evan and Connor to grow in any sort of relationship.
When people in the DEH fandom call out the creators for not making it “gay” or whatever, it’s really dumb. To make it gay, it would erase the story and any depth that the musical has, not to mention erase the female characters– something the musical fandoms are great at doing.
Female characters and their stories are so overshadowed and seemingly unimportant in a lot of situations. Take for example, Hamilton. I think Alexander Hamilton could have very well have been bisexual and he also may have had a relationship with John Laurens.
That’s great and all, but the way people are so willing to erase Eliza from the narrative that she strives and ultimately becomes, shows that tumblr just won’t be happy until we see two guys making out on stage.
The same thing happens with In the Heights. Bensnavi, shipping Usnavi with Johan from Blackish, or shipping Usnavi with Ruben from Do No Harm (this one is so weird, you’re basically shipping Lin with himself), you’re taking away the incredible character Vanessa is (and with Bensnavi, Nina as well).
I really don’t mind Lams and all, but I hate seeing Eliza and other female characters pushed aside to satisfy the needs of the fandom.
And the issue becomes, it’s not only the women, but practically everyone who gets ignored and set aside. The story is stripped and in the end is barely remininiciant of the original. All that we have left are two dudes who have been changed into “cute, soft, smol” or some other tumblr thing. The people of the ship are changed to an extent as well. Their stories, struggles, personalities– everything is molded into what the fandom wants to see. When Connor and Evan are shipped together, the fact that Connor committed suicide, had mental problems, was emotionally (and perhaps physically) abusive gets overlooked. Evan’s compulsive lying, social anxiety, and need for attention also turn into “Evan Hansen the smol boy who loves trees!!!”
I’m sure I went off on a tangent. But I hate the way characters are being treated now the days. From TV shows, to movies, to musicals, it seems like what the creators vision was, it’s been turned into something stupid so tumblr can fawn over who they want.
I’m pansexual myself and I love to see LGBTQ+ characters. But I also can’t have crucial parts of the story gone or erased because then, there’s really nothing there.
