This is called the SINK GAME 💦, a brilliant idea by the genius that is @busytoddler. I'm pretty sure most of you are already following Susie of @busytoddler, and if you aren't, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? 💫 Susie is a fun mom who seriously knows how to make life easier for us exhausted mommas of toddlers. This Sink Game over here is basically filling the sink with coloured water (using food colouring that is really diluted so it won't stain anything) and dumping in all sorts of items (spoons, bowls..anything safe, really) into it. One, toddlers get really occupied with this sort of activity. You know how they can spend hours (okay, maybe not hours but you know what I mean) just scooping & pouring things with spoons & bowls AND ESPECIALLY with water involved! 💦 Two, the colours make it fun & our toddlers can even learn their colours while at it. And finally, it's super EASY to set up and us mamas can prepare dinner in peace while the toddlers get busy! After what seemed like a crazy week (story on @azaliasuhaimi), we're slowly getting back on our feet now with a painting of a funny-looking fish (which is looking very much like a fish bone instead 😆🐠) and the letter F. Lots of teamwork over here between Orked and I as we completed this piece using different materials. i.e. cotton-pads for the face, heart-shaped DIY stamps for the body, and more cotton-pad stamping for the tail & the letter F. I hope everyone's week has been better! I'm so pleased to see the hashtag #ohlittlesthands reaching more than 500 posts now! Thank you, guys! Also, to everyone who has emailed or DM-ed me on collaborations, photography services & other matters, I am so sorry for the delay in my replies. We've got our hands full recently over at the Littlest Hands headquarters (if you could call it that) with a really sick toddler to attend to after some travelling. We thought this adorable photo by mama @nlinteh could bring some cheer to everyone seeing this, including ourselves. We're off for a quick road trip so I'll probably update more on @azaliasuhaimi this weekend. Anyway, thought of sharing this..well, not exactly an activity, but a learning opportunity. Orked these days identifies everything, including her food, by their shapes. No, THAT 👆isn't her cheesy toastie snack, that's a "triangle!" she'd exclaim. And same goes with watermelons, burgers and everything else. Placing her meals on that orange board of shapes I traced for her once upon a time ago may render her inheriting her mama's OCD trait by fitting her food into all its correct shapes perfectly. 😁📐🔶🔵🔻Isn't it amazing how everything and ANYTHING can be a learning opportunity for our kids? We haven't been crafting much the past few days as we're in the midst of a massive spring-cleaning 'do at home while refurbishing this little one's playroom. So to compensate the lack of messy activities, we've been doing a lot of singing, dancing (all that as we spring-clean) AND reading! 📚👯 Orked just turned 23 months recently, and I've noticed some changes & developments in her the past 2 weeks - she loves reading more, as in actually requesting me to read a story to her as we lie down on the bed (she even demanded me to lie down)! And I think that's huge because, a tired mama always appreciates a chance to stay still on the bed with a good book. 😅 Well that, and it's amazing to see the way a toddler's attention span increases. Previously, our reading session was just covering one or two pages before she decides to run off and make me lose weight chasing after her. 😁 Today, I think she has made me read Guess How Much I Love You in the Spring about 473 times! P/S - Aren't cheese & crackers just the BEST snack ever since...forever? Down to the last crumbly bunny ears! 🐰🧀 #OrkedsHand #ohlittlesthands

Say Hello to the lovely Alia of @rainbowrockproject! This 7-year-old sweetheart has been painting rainbows on rocks and placing them in many different corners outdoors as a way to make people smile. 🌈 She's now selling them for $1 each and donating all proceeds to her local homeless shelter. If you're looking for something to do with the kids for Valentine's Day, here's an amazingly cute idea by @thelittlestbookclub! 😍 CHOCOLATE PLAYDOH in a Valentine's chocolate box. ❤️🍫 Genius, right? What I especially love about @thelittlestbookclub is that she combines her crafts & activities together with an introduction of a picture book & storytelling time. I'm all for promoting the love of reading to our little ones, and @thelittlestbookclub is a true inspiration here. 😊❤️📚 Shared here by the way is 'Where is Baby's Valentine?' by Karen Katz, and a homemade chocolate play dough with the following recipe: 2c flour, 1/2c salt, 4tsp cream of tartar, 1/2c cocoa powder, 2c water, 2tbs baby oil. And with that cute Valentine's chocolate box? The little ones would be so occupied taking the dough out, and in, and again. ANIMAL FOOTPRINT POSTCARDS. 🐾 Lots of learning & lots of fun! I posted a behind-the-scene photo on my new @azaliasuhaimi account if you'd like to see the process. When I first set up the activity, I was of course looking forward to the yummy prints & patterns that we'll produce. I brought out some art cards, a large sheet of white paper (mahjong paper), paint and finally...animal figurines! 🐅🐘🐢 While we first began with stamping the painted footprints, it slowly turned into a form of pretend play & storytelling session. Each time she re-applied paint on the animals' feet, she'd place them on the pool of paint and went "Jump in muddy puddles!" before going "Stomp feet!" as she also named each animal & created stories along the way. This lasted for quite a while until she finally decided that it's the animals' bedtime (she seems to have a thing for bedtime...must be from all those time I enforced a bedtime routine 😁). So the animals ended up lying down in splashes of pink & purple paint. What has she gained? Getting creative with art, forming even more creativity through her imagination, expanding her vocabulary, creating stories, telling stories, benefiting from the sensory experience, getting focused, naming the animals along with their movements & sounds, naming the animals' body part, loving the animals, naming the colours, and so much more I'm sure! 🐾🐒 And the best part? Today, I switched off our Internet connection most parts of the day, and we ended up having a pretty romantic one, more connected than ever. ✨💕 We did this simple classic art activity (definitely a to-do with Valentine's Day approaching ❤️) of stamping heart-shaped toilet paper rolls across some art cards. I used some of my favourite pastel shades here (since Orked hasn't figured out her favourite colours yet 😆) and I think some of these are good to go as postcards! 💛💚💜 We also played pretend today, where Orked baked cakes & prepared a six-course meal of pom-poms for our "romantic dinner" after that. Hope you've had a great start to the Year of the Monkey! 🐒📅✨ I simply had to share this adorable Monkey Tic Toc craft by Shannon of @ohcreativeday (yes again, because this lady is that amazing 😄✨)! The Monkey Tic Toc is made using a wooden spoon, a pompom as its nose, some coloured felt as its ears, a pipecleaner as its tail, paint & markers to complete its face, and finally some string & beads to complete the tic toc! Oh what crafty fun! Happy Lunar New Year again to all & wishing you a prosperous one! 🎊 Here's an amazing food art by talented mom @surayacogh. Among the many traditions of Chinese New Year is to dress up in new clothing, usually in red, to scare off bad fortunes & evil spirits. The ladies would usually don the lovely cheongsam, also known as qípáo in Mandarin, in bright shades of red. Seen here in Suraya's beautiful food art is a Chinese girl rocking a red cheongsam, enjoying mandarin oranges & carrying a lantern. @surayacogh's food art is amazingly detailed and wildly creative (do check out her other works). I mean, who would've thought to transform capsicums (correct me if I'm wrong Kak Su 😄) into a really gorgeous detailed cheongsam like that? 👆😍🏮 Thanks for sharing your gorgeous work with us, @surayacogh! Hope you've had a lovely Chinese New Year's Eve dinner, folks! 🍜 I'd love to share here an amazing CNY kids' art project lead by the lovely ✨Jess Lam✨, a @tinkertots.my teacher & founder of Forest of Stars in Johor. As quoted by Jess herself on @tinkertots.my - "Storytelling, music and art! This collaborative Chinese New Year art piece was also inspired by the story of 'Nian', the people eating monster. They began 2 weeks ago by creating shadows with black and white acrylic paint on this canvas piece after having read 'Flashlight' and playing a lot with flashlights, creating shadows. Their interest then turned to creating monster-like shadows and so, in light of the season, we read a Chinese New Year story about the fearsome 'Nian' and how the people rid of him by hanging up lots of RED and making lots of noise. We made cut outs of 'Nian' and did some more shadow play. On this day, I played some atmospheric music and we used charcoal to draw the people hiding around in the shadows, then we dripped on some red glue paint to symbolize the hanging of red decorations. As the music got louder and more exciting, 'Nian' appeared. I offered lots of brushes, red ribbons and red packets and the children responded with gusto!" 🎊 Jess is one of my many inspirational role models when it comes to teaching children art. 😊💕 Do follow along her lovely arty adventures with the kids at @tinkertots.my.
