“Sometimes it  is. I have good athletes and I have insufferable ones. The older ones are usually easier to reason with than the younger ones. A lot of them have very pent up energy and they just let it loose publicly, which I then have to reel in. It’s definitely busy work.” She let out a chuckle. “Over Christmas they’re not my problem.” Funny, they’re always her problem. “I try to let them breathe as much as possible. I like to think I’m firm but fair.”

orla makes a face  ,  stretching her mouth in disgust  ,  ❝  youths  .  ❞  that blanket statement obviously doesn’t stretch to dana  ,  but the younger members of wintergreen often became insufferable  ,  bar a few  ,  ❝  i couldn’t imagine it  .  maybe i’ll come down here more often to provide photographic evidence of said serious face  .  it needs to be shared around the resort  ,  as warning to leave you alone too  .  i can’t imagine not being able to like  ,  not drink everyday at the bar in case someone annoys you  ,  .  .  not that i do that  .  ❞

Throughout the night, Kaya found it necessary to stay somewhat sober, mostly to keep an eye on the baked goods. She was always very protective of them, whether it was necessary or not. People were eating them, that was for sure, so why should she protect them? It was also the need to know if they were enjoying them, if there were some they liked better than the others. Kaya couldn’t help tasting some of them too, after all, she knew she was a good baker. It wasn’t that she didn’t enjoy parties, because she did. She just needed a little break every now and then. Upon seeing Orla come toward the food, the girl couldn’t help but smile. She loved when others took pictures of her food. Chuckling, she put her hands up in excitement. “That would be me! I could bake in a blizzard, hurricane, typhoon, whatever natural disaster, you name it. You should try something and make me happy, the prettiest one of course.”

spinning on her heel  ,  orla is unsure how to approach the situation  .  she wasn’t sure if she should be more embarassed that she’d been sprung talking to herself  ,  or that she’d been talking to herself about the other’s work  .  a half - hearted smile graces her features  ,  letting out a breath she wasn’t aware she had been holding in  ,  ❝  well  ,  they are beautiful  ,  though a bit complex for my level of skill  .  ❞  orla has a tint on her cheeks  ,  though as she gawks longer at the other she’s sure it’s actually because of how ethereal the other is over the previous embarassment  .  she’s eager to please  ,  and her gaze travels back to the table assortment  ,  fingers moving to the one that looks like it holds the highest chocolate intake  .  bringing it to her mouth  ,  at first bite she feigns immediate approval  ,  though as she chews she finds herself actually enjoying it  ,  despite her lack of sweet tooth  ,  ❝  fuck  ,  that’s actually really nice  .  what’s the secret  ?  ,  and DON’T say natural talent  ,  because i severely lack that  .  ❞

“you think i’m the nicest person here?” she stared at the other before shaking her head and giving the other a smile. “i mean–it’s nice of you to say that, but i don’t know, i don’t really see myself that way.” but at orla’s words about paying money to see her drunk, she only grinned wider. “okay so you don’t need to technically pay money, you can just buy the drinks and i promise you’ll get your wish of seeing me wasted. does that work?”

Nate was still floundering ever so slightly as she continued to speak. She’d thought he was a model. He was both offended and amused. “Okay, try archaeologist,” he muttered. “You know… photographer– they photograph artefacts we find. They don’t photograph me.”

archeologist was the last thing that would have come to her mind  .  to be fair  ,  they’re surrounded by snow  ,  ❝  of course  .  i mean  ,  some of them might secretly photograph you  ,  but that’s another story  .  ❞  she’s mentally cursing herself out still  ,  unsure of why she opens her mouth at all  ,  ❝  what’s an archeologist doing in the snow  ?  ❞

“Is there a saying like ‘the photographer always knows best’? Because I think that probably fits in this situation, especially if you’ve been in the bar yourself. I don’t really do interior decorating or anything… putting up photos is a bit of a leap for me,” she laughed softly. “I think night photos could work, though, and I think the idea of the drunkards is a good one– in terms of like, showcasing the people of Wintergreen, you know? But maybe just… not while they’re drunk off their asses.”

❝  it’s probably like  ,  the photographer knows their biased best  .  ❞  orla laughs  ,  shrugging as her hands go up in the air  ,  ❝  it’s a good idea  ,  but the thought of having to deal with people sifting through a good photo to allow me to put up is almost to painful to even think about  .  as it is  ,  when i take one it takes like ten minutes for them to find their  ‘  POSE  ’  .  ❞  she’s still hurridly clicking through photos until she comes to one she took at christmas  ,  the bar lit up just enough with fairy lights to look beautiful  ,  rather than tacky like some of the other parts of the resort  ,  ❝  how about something like this  ?  i could give you a more snowy photo  ,  but i feel like that’s a bit stereotypical for a place like this  .  ❞

they served very rich clientele, that’s how people stay comfortably. that, or people’s companies paid for them, or the resort was covering living expenses for their employees. this was the world of rich people and appearances, for sure. he was kind of expecting that smile, people were either really intrigued or grossed out. though he did wonder how the people who were intrigued would actually deal with helping those people get off the mountain. “that’s why i never force people to go out there. there are two ways those things happen. being too nervous and being too confident. you gotta walk that line of believing in yourself and knowing that the mountain is a cruel mistress.” he laughed and shook his head. “you missed me in the height of my barfighting days, but you won’t find anything more than splashing a drink on someone in here in the lodge bar. these people are way too soft. you gotta go into town to the little dives, with the real mountain people and cowboys, to find the barfights.” 

as orla listens  ,  she can’t help but let her face screw up  ,  ❝  that’s GREAT  ,  because i’m the perfect mix of nervous and overconfident  .  it’s not even like i can enjoy the ski lift either  .  i watched this movie called frozen the other day thinking it would be like the disney movie  ,  and it was about these people getting stuck on the ski lift  ,  and like  ,  .  .  breaking their bones and getting eaten by wolves  .  it is  ,  .  .  so reassuring  .  ❞  a laugh escapes her  ,  a feigned sad expression on her face  ,  ❝  it actually haunts me that i’ll never see a honeychurch fight  .  surely you have one last fight in your for my benefit  .  ❞

It took everything in him for Nate not to spit out the mouthful of beer that he’d just started to consume. Instead, he nearly choked on it as he swallowed it. “I–what?” He glanced over at her. “You think I’m a model? I– fuck, no. I’m not a model. Literally the furthest thing from it.” 

his reaction causes her to recoil in herself  ,  mouth agape as her brain attempts to find a way to backtrack from the statement  ,  obvious the other takes its as a complete insult  ,  ❝  oh  ,  .  .  NO  !  that’s not  ,  .  .  what i meant  ,  i just thought when you said you worked with a photographer  .  ❞  she’s scrounging for what he could be  ,  but coming up empty  ,  ❝  .  .  .  coroner  ?  ❞

“I’ve been known for being a little too dangerous sometimes when it comes to photography… I think I’ve nearly given my cousin, Eli, about five hundred heart attacks whenever we go out together,” she laughed nonchalantly. “I’m attending, yes. an eyebrow cocks  ,  and she lets out a small laugh  ,  ❝  i never knew that your cousin was eli  .  is everyone in wintergreen a honeychurch  ?!  ❞  she’s joking of course  ,  though the thought has crossed her mind  .  everyone is intricately connected in wintergreen  ,  ❝  i’m actually attending  ,  though i’m taking my camera too  .  it’s my first one and i actually don’t know what to expect with everyone in the same room at once  .  isn’t there like a million feuds going on at the moment  ?  it’ll be good action shot practice when people start swinging  .  ❞

orla nodded  ,  hands already fumbling to scroll through the endless photos stored on the camera around her neck  ,  ❝  yeah  ,  i’ve got a few hundred favourites  ,  it just depends on what the vibe is you’re going for  .  i’ve been playing with motion shots lately  ,  but i  ,  uh  ,  actually spend a bit of time in your bar  ,  and i feel like one of my night shoot photos would fit the  ,  .  .  feel of the bar  .  i also have a fair few photos of the drunkards of wintergreen  ,  but management might not like that  .  ❞

Dana was fully aware of what the Olympians had nicknamed her when she was angry. Though ‘Scary Dana’ came out often, she tried to maintain her regular demeanor whenever possible. “I try to be as serious as possible with them. It takes a special kind of management technique to be feared and respected at the same time.” She nodded her head once. “If I’m intimidating them then I must be doing something right. If I’m intimidating total strangers, though… please tell me you’re not personally terrified of me.”

orla’s head slowly nods as she listens to the other  ,  her eyes shifting to the people in the background that seemed to be fucking around while dana was preoccupied  ,  ❝  no  ,  no  ,  .  .  i’m impressed  !  i feel like yelling at people bigger than me would be  ,  .  .  therapeutic  .  ❞  in her personal endeavours  ,  she’d found athletes to be less than savoury  ,  whatever allowed someone to scream at the others was a winner for her  ,  ❝  maybe you should ease up on them a bit around christmas though  ,  i think the resort counsellor has gone home for the holidays  .  ❞

WOW  ,  how uncomfortable could one get at an event like this  ?  orla is sure she looks entirely out of place  ,  in a dress that’s not hers  ,  and one that seems to be extremely tight  ,  ‘  it didn’t look like that on the one she borrowed it from  ’  .  the one thing that centers her is the camera hung from her neck  ,  an accessory some probably find ruins the look  ,  but that’s the last of her worries  .  she makes her way to the assortment of baked goods  ,  bringing the viewfinder upwards to focus on a sweet closest to her  .  she’s speaking out loud  ,  as she usually does  ,  not noticing the other right next to her  ,  ❝ who the hell has time to make all this amongst a blizzard  ?   ❞  @kayayall

jade chuckled at orla’s words before shaking her head. “you know everyone is always looking for freebies, in the entire world–i mean that’s how things work. it’s very irritating.” she mostly had to deal with people who would ask her for free shots or flavours without paying extra, but yes it was annoying. “hmmm, i do have breaks–i don’t thankfully live here,” she murmured before shrugging. “i normally go ice skating, or shopping, or hang out with some friends, but i’m not such a social person normally..is that weird?”

orla looked back  ,  eyes narrowed for dramatic effect  ,  ❝  it’s not weird to not be social  ,  but it’s weird because you’re like the  NICEST  person in wintergreen  .  i feel like i imagine you walking around with like a swarm of people  .  not that i would be able to notice  ,  i’m usually holed up in my room like a hermit  .  i only venture out for your coffee  ,  or a drink  .  i’d pay good money to see you drunk  .  ❞

orla isn’t sure how to read the other  .  his disinterest in photography makes her nod slowly  ,  leaning further away from him  .  he works with someone that takes a lot of photos  ,  .  .  AH  ,  he’s a model  ,  .  .  makes sense  ,  ❝  yeah  ,  they’re pretty popular for shoots  .  the megapixels pick up every inch  ,  super clear  .  are you up here for a shoot then  ?  the models usually flock in around this time of year  .  ❞

Her words were rushed and she was definitely more interested in the photo. “But the photo– it’s on the way to my aunt’s house. I was stuck in a car and I took it and it turned out so good, right!?”

orla can’t help but smirk back at the other  .  it’s so nice to see someone eager around here  ,  especially another so passionate about photography  ,  albeit reckless to get the photo  .  it’s well placed  ,  despite the sure rush of danger behind it  ,  ❝  i don’t know how you’ve got such a steady hand  .  you’re too dangerous for your own good  .  are you gonna’ be photographing the ball  ,  or attending  ?  i’d love to see your photos from there  ,  you’ve got a good eye  .  ❞

her eyebrows raise  ,  knowing she should have recognised the other for how much time she spends in the bar  ,  though honestly she spends most of that time trying to avoid contact with the patrons  .  her grin is stuck on her face  ,  almost giddy at the offer  ,  ❝  REALLY  ?!  i would love that  ,  i mean  ---  i’ve only got like  ,  .  .  .  ten thousand photos of this place to look at  .  you can just go through my camera if you like  ?  did you know what kind of picture you were after  ?  ❞
