0 regrets :D I`ve been playing exclusively N`Zoth Paladin, Rogue and Priest past several weeks. My kind of card <3
I hope August is a good month for all of you
I`ve proposed to my gf on Aug 1st. So far all is well :D
EDH can take 30mins to 3 hours easily
So we had a 3v3 edh game going. And another group of people asked if we wanted to play this other game. We said “sure we should be done soon.” An hour goes by “are yall almost done” “They are at 12 life this should be done really fast” Another hours goes by “Wtf” “Sorry dude they just won’t die…omg please just die!” Our match took so long that the other group kinda left lol. A couple of people said they took naps during our match and woke up to us still playing. Edh can be time consuming but man is it fun.
Reblog with your longest game time!
6 player FFA @ inver hills community college; eight and a half hours! (started somewhere around 9 or 10AM. Decided I could skip World History class that day.)
7.5 hrs, 8 people. First time in my life I had a game where players BEGGED anyone to instantly combo-finish the game. Did not happen. Good ol` damage.
Glenn has grown so much as a character wow
Glenn? Try Carol :)
Duuuudddeeee, I don’t think you understand the love I have for Carol <3
My gf started watching TWD on Thu for the first time. We were watching the episode when the first big wave of walkers attack the parking lot camp, and Ed dies. When Carol put a pick-axe through his head I said “Carol is my fav character in the whole show”, to which my gf went “Why? She is so weak and simple?” “Give her time honey”
Later we were watching Season 2, and Andrea did some stupid shit again, as she does, and I go all about how much I dislike her, how she is bad for the group and all, to which my gf says “No, she does this because she is the true survivor! Unlike that sissy weak Carol, Andrea will be just fine out there!”
Awww… So cute :3

Reblog if you play EDH/Commander
Why does Commander forbid playing cards with colors that aren't a subset of your commander's color identity (903.5c), when there's already a rule that any colored mana outside your commander's color identity turns colorless (903.9)? This means that, for example, you can't play Privileged Position in a Zur the Enchanter deck, even though you can cast it with only white mana. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of hybrid cards?
The Commander format currently is not very nice to hybrid cards. It is probably my single greatest issue with the format.
Hey, Maro.
Leave the format alone and don’t talk about it at all? Maybe that’d be best for everyone?
Did…
Did you just… ask a blogger to stop talking about something? That’s really rude. The last thing I would ever want to see on one of my posts is one of my followers asking me to stop talking about something.
Yes, I just asked Mark Rosewater to stop talking about something he obviously dislikes - but seems hellbent on influencing anyway.
Mark Rosewater, a head designer at WotC who forced Extort (purposefully) on EDH by abusing the CI loophole dealing with reminder text. And who wants to disband the CI rule so that he can run hybrids in any color deck. Mark Rosewater, doesn’t understand EDH - he never will. So its best for the format, AND everyone playing it - if he forgets it exists and stops trying to force his views on it.
Mark Rosewater, has several times said he doesn’t understand the format; or multiplayer magic. Yet he continues to tell people that he dislikes it and thinks it should change to suite his views.
You do realize Maro has no direct influence on the EDH rules, right? Also, I think you have all of design (and development. And templating and editing) to blame for the extort text. I happen to agree with him about hybrids, by the way.
When maro himself, states that he dislikes the way the format is run, and admits to doing thins certain ways to try and move the format in a different direction, yes, I blame maro.
Yeah but you’re being a dick to Mark Rosewater so I’m not really considering your opinion valid.
One day you’ll realize, that most people don’t have valid opinions.
But i for one, I am sick of Mark Rosewater constantly trying to drag EDH/Commander down a peg by bitching constantly about how Hybrid in EDH doesn’t match his view of hybrid; or how he *happily* constructed Extort to get around the rule of CI.
You’re right, I don’t like Maro - as a person he’s an egotistical narcissist that thinks even casual formats created by people that aren’t WotC’s employees, should be under the control; or leverage, of WotC and its employees. Maro has lots of indirect influence on the format - because idiots keep asking him questions that he isn’t qualified to answer - but he does anyway - in the answer he gives in the original reblog, he doesn’t even mention that the format is under jurisdiction of a separate group that isn’t WotC.
Maro, is maro. Nothing will change that - he’s a control freak over Magic.
very much agreed, you summed up issues I was having on that matter into a very fine posts! kudos, joz!
REBLOG IF I CAN WRITE TO YOU AND SIMPLY START A FRENDSHIP
400 tumblr followers wooooooooo!! Ty!! Hi new ppl :3
Hi :)
this is castable off Sunforger
Hearthstone
Haven't played EDH for ~2 months, because of that stupid game :) Well, technically because our game day is Saturday, by default, but during summer every weekend is kinda busy. Especially, when your SO lives in another country, nearby. Anywho, last week got my golden Priest avatar :) go, Orzhov, The Light Shall Burn You! Anyone into HS here? Maluco #2258
Honestly, Maro (and the rest of WotC) it would be better for everyone, if you just stayed clear of that sort of thinking. Do not think “how can we make this work in commander,” just make things without thinking about Commander/EDH. We can put the pieces together by oursleves. We don’t need anymore Avacyns, or Prooshes, or “Eldrazi”, we need more Wrexials, Glissas, Kangees, Kikus, and Rasputins. Fun, build-around-me, not easy-to-abuse generals. Stuff that makes timmy and johny squeel with delight, and not stuff that looks Spike in the eye and demands to be played.
Reblog because quintessential truth
Just a casual 9 people EDH night :D We played one table, 4+ hours, with Rafiq eventually taking down the whole thing. I, of course, ran Oros. Took 2 guys down, but then died to the surprise 18 2/2 Wolf tokens from Cagebreakers by M-Wanderer.
Was Izzet intentionally excluded from your enemy-pair commander recommendations?
Yeah, I’m just not crazy about the Izzet commanders. Aside from Jhoira, who isn’t super fun to play with or against, most of the other Izzet Commanders don’t give much direction. Without direction, people tend to slide into just playing goodstuff, which is bad for the format’s diversity, or playing the only strategy that’s specific to Izzet: spell-based combo. Unfortunately, spell-based combo is pretty noninteractive.
Overall, I just don’t think any of the Izzet Commanders push the player in a direction that is both healthy for the format and interesting to play with and against, so I can’t really recommend any of them. I know there are a lot of Izzet players out there who are really passionate about their guild and build it into part of their identity, and I’m not trying to dump on Izzet by saying that the Izzet Commanders are bad/boring/unfun. On the contrary, I’m annoyed that there aren’t better options for this color combination and I see myself as advocating for better, more thoughtful designs from Wizards.
I feel the same way about the Boros Commanders: I don’t hate the color combination, but I hate the options available for legendary creatures. What percentage of Boros Commanders involve attacking, dealing damage, or the combat step? Why is it that Azorius gets Daxos and Grand Arbiter, Golgari gets both Skullbriar and Savra, and Simic gets both Edric and Kruphix, but Boros is pigeonholed into playing only a single archetype thanks to a lack of diversity among its Commanders’ abilities?
Look at these guys. You get to choose between pumping your creatures, pumping your creatures, attacking twice with your creatures, forcing your opponents to attack you, dealing direct damage to players, doubling your damage to opponents, helping out your attackers, pumping your creatures, dealing direct damage to creatures, and blowing up the world with Worldslayer (after you attack with three or more creatures).
Is red/white’s mechanical overlap really so small? How about a Commander that explored the colors’ hatred of artifacts? Or even better, the color pair’s affinity for artifacts? How about a Commander that explores red/white’s love of equipment? Maybe one that shares its parent colors’ ability to generate tokens?
Any one of those ideas could lead to a cool Commander that didn’t necessarily force you into an aggressive strategy. But I doubt we’re going to see a red/white Commander like that as long as Wizards continues to make Boros legends using the same tired template.
"… most of the other Izzet Commanders don’t give much direction. Without direction, people tend to slide into just playing goodstuff, which is bad for the format’s diversity, or playing the only strategy that’s specific to Izzet: spell-based combo"
I just wanted to share another perspective:
One of the first deck I ever built was original Niv-Mizzet, that was all built around his ability. I intentionally left out Curiosity/O-Eye, and focused on the challenge. So it featured Psychosis Crawler, Teferi`s Puzzle Box, Whirlpool Warrior and several instant speed card draws, like BSZ, Careful Consideration, etc. It is very fun to control the combat through instant BSZ, dividing damage to creatures that you don`t want to see attacking, introducing a little politics. The most fun way to win is to target the other player with card draw, and then Runeflare Trap+Twincast them to death.
My point is - it`s not the generals, it`s the people. If you really understand the social contract, and are creative, you can have and give fun. P.S. No Concecration Sphinx/Navigator in there aswell, actually.
