[Oz wasn’t quite sure how long she had been sitting under the tree, just that the sun had risen quite awhile ago. She was, however, quite sure that she had so far failed to connect with and use magic on the fern she had been fixating on for much of the night.
Most things caught Oz’s attention, but not a lot caught it with anything nearing the degree of concentration she was devoting to the fern. Concentration of this degree narrowed her scope of perception to a pinpoint, which meant she had yet to notice that the ripples of tension in the earth her misdirected magic was causing and the low groaning of slowly fracturing, sliding rock was getting her some irritated looks from passing park-goers on the sidewalk, some 20 feet away.]

“But! You should show me sometime, if you can. Or want to. Maybe seeing it in action will help me figure it out! I’ll try it out anyway before then, though. Oh man, I can’t believe it, I wonder if my mom even knew about this. I could help plants grow! I could help a hundred plants grow! I could start a forest! A forest in the dark of gigantic ferns! Hey, does it work on fungus too? Oh man, gigantic mushrooms!”
“Oh, we’re also to the top floor, finally. I feel like those stairs are longer than normal today or something. The braille books are back there, on those shelves in the corner!”
[She points toward them as she looks back at Micah, then Goes.]
“You’re getting awfully far ahead of yourself…you need to slow down. One thing at a time, please…plants don’t like to be rushed. And neither do I, for that matter…”
[As glad as Micah was to have met someone he could relate to, even if only slightly, he was even more glad that they had reached the top of the stairs at long last. It seemed as if they had been talking forever…another thing he wasn’t all that used to. Oh well.]
“..Thank you, again.”
“See you around.”
“No worries, despite everything, I’ve at least learned from rock how to be patient. And I really should be thanking you, it was honestly my pleasure. I hope to see you soon!”
[Oz was a bit sad to see him go. Normally, she’d linger around the library and flip through a few books of her own- that she couldn’t currently check out, because money is pain- and wander through the quiet labyrinth of wood and paper, but today plants had captured her wonder. She lept down a few stairs, amended her pace to an eager walk when she drew dirty looks, and sped to the door, the outside world, the new wonder plants held.]

[She cringed.]
“I-I mean! It’s different for other people of course! But. I should be able to at least do that much.”
“And! It is though! People don’t usually.. I mean, connection between people, it’s special!”
“You really think so!? I. Wait, I have no idea how. How do you do it? Is it like when rocks are still alive, they kinda do what they want?”
“You are counted as everyone as well, you know…even if you don’t like it.”
[Micah figures that it’s probably best to let that go, though. Getting into a debate about morality and self-respect with a complete stranger was probably the lowest thing on his ‘list of stuff he wanted to do right now’ pile. He just shrugs at her second question.]
“I…don’t know.”
“I just do.”
[Well ain’t that dandy, they finally reach the top of the stairs. They may well have been going up a down escalator. Who knows.
Wait did I ever say she started moving again. Um.
AnywayS.
Oz shrinks back a bit and raises her shoulders.]
“I, um..”
[She glances down.]
“Yea, I need to work on that.”
[She perks back up because Oz is actually the peppiest fucker this side of the planet.]
