Miss Fortune || Alexei & Sabre
severing-angel:
The angel raised a brow before shaking his head in amusement. “Always the humble one, eh? And what about myself? Am I good company?” he mused, teasing the other. Alexei shook his head, waving his hand. “I wouldn’t really consider him a close acquaintance to myself…” he muttered. The blonde glanced at the door which his date stormed out of. He wished for a slight moment that Sabre had actually drained the man, just so he wouldn’t have to deal with him anymore in the future.
Watching as Sabre topped his glass, Alexei hummed gently before glancing up in surprise at the other man’s comment. “Wait, why would you think that? So long as I’m here, I don’t think I’m going anywhere any time soon…” he murmured. The blonde leaned across the table, eyeing the vampire with a humorous glimmer in his eyes. “If I didn’t know any better, it’d sound like you were worried if I wasn’t here… And you haven’t even taken me out for dinner or anything. How improper,” Alexei teased.
“Sure, it’ll happen. Just not… any time soon for me, it seems like,” the surgeon said with a small grimace. “Can’t seem to find anyone who likes me just enough to stick around. But I’m not sure if I see it the same as selling away their soul,” he laughed. “Isn’t it nice though? Being able to be that close with someone and share everything with each other? I think it’s a nice feeling, even if… it hasn’t happened yet.” Blinking, Alexei took another long drink from his glass before setting it back down on the table, swirling the container idly. “And now? Now that you aren’t hiding or chasing away ‘douche-y’ dates, what’s next for you?”
Flicking his tongue against the back of an extended fang, Sabre fought to contain a smile with Alexei’s queries. Self-effacing was not how one would generally describe the vampire, so the fact that he played coy, acting humble was made all the more amusing. He wasn’t a good person by any stretch of the imagination, but the angel had a tendency for seeing the best in others. “Of course you’re good company. Would I be sitting with you if you weren’t? You know me better than that, Alexei.”
Smiling, the vampire ran the tip of an index finger slowly around the rim of his glass, following the motion with his eyes and humming softly in thought. “You’re acquainted with him though, and that’s enough to send the cops to your door if he turns up… missing. Or dead. How does one turn up missing?” he mused, almost to himself as a chuckle rumbled from deep in his chest. It was an expression he’d never fully understood, but one that was used regularly by the folks living in Bright Haven where people often failed to return home. Anyone would think there was something sinister going on in the town. Smirking, Sabre picked up his glass and took a quick swig of the deep amber liquid within.
“Oh shut up,” the vampire chided gently, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips, lessening the heat behind the admonishment. “I’m just sort of used to waking up and everything’s changed. People are gone, places ain’t the same and I’m sorta on my own… used to it, now,” he said, by way of explanation. “And I’m buying you alcohol, am I not?” he joked, chuckling with the words. Alexei seemed fairly content with being alone and without a lover, but it seemed the angel yearned to feel the sensation of falling in love. The complete opposite of how Sabre used to be. The vampire spent most of his life detesting the thought, figuring it made him weak, and for a time he was sure he was actually incapable of said emotion. Shrugging, he flicked his gaze to Alexei’s and hefted his tumbler from the table once again. “Yeah, it feels nice. Terrifying though, but nice all the same. I think it’s selling your soul… if you have one. It feels similar. Like your entire being depends on that person just… existing. It’s intense. And now that I’m not hiding or chasing away douche-y dates, I’m trying to get back to work. What about you?”

Miss Fortune || Alexei & Sabre
severing-angel:
“I suppose knowing that I have both a child to take care of at home and work tomorrow won’t stop you from trying to get me wasted with you, will it?” Alexei said with an amused smile on his face. He sipped from his drink, eyeing his friend (?) curiously. “Thank you for saving me from that date,” he said again with a small shake of his head.
The surgeon hummed gently, tilting his head to the side again before shrugging. “Can’t say I disagree, but it is nice to see you again. Good to know you haven’t ditched out of this town or had something else happen to you,” Alexei said gently with a warm smile.
Blinking, the blonde furrowed his brows a little bit before laughing lightly. “I’m not really sure I can say with confidence… It’s not really a phrase I use myself…” he murmured before rolling his eyes. “What, you think I can’t be fine by myself?” Turning his head away, Alexei continued drinking from his glass before setting it down lightly on the table. “You don’t give up, do you?” he mused. “Guess happiness wasn’t with him. Seems I’m not too good in picking guys. I think he wanted something else. Or maybe I was too nice for him or something. I don’t know. Maybe he wasn’t interested in that.” The surgeon shrugged again before focusing his gaze on Sabre, as if daring the vampire to make a snarky comment.
“Happy with laying low? Doesn’t sound like you.”
A soft snicker built in his chest and Sabre curled deft fingers around his tumbler, taking a few quick gulps that drained the glass before he lowered it with a satisfied gasp. It definitely hit the spot—warm and sweet, yet contained just an edge of bitterness that burned pleasantly on his taste buds. “You know me too well. Why would you wanna go home when you can spend your evening with me? I'm excellent company, dear Alexei.” His lips twitched with the barest hint of a smile, revealing a flash of white, exposing one of his fangs. “You don’t have to thank me. That dude was a douche, and if he wasn’t so closely acquainted with you, I’d have drained him dry already… even if his scent didn’t appeal.”
Sniffing, as though the memory were so unpleasant it left him wrinkling his nose, Sabre sat forward and refilled his glass, topping the angels up as well while his gaze drifted to meet Alexei’s. His smile grew exponentially following the other males claim. It felt nice to be greeted with such warmth, Sabre had grown far too accustomed to people running from him, not open and willing to greet him. Alexei seemed genuinely pleased he’d stuck around though. “Thanks, same to you. I was beginning to think I’d wake one night and the whole town would be gone.”
It sounded utterly insane, but the vampire genuinely believed that after some sleep, he would rise from his bed and find no one around. The world he’d come from had pretty much the same outcome, what made this one any different? He was so used to life just… changing, and him having to scramble to keep up, that it was almost like he expected to find everything gone the moment he opened his eyes each and every night. Lifting an eyebrow curiously, Sabre tracked the movement of Alexei’s glass from his lips to rest on the tabletop and chuckled despite himself. “I don’t give up, no… and just because happiness wasn’t with him, doesn’t mean it won’t be with anyone. I mean… it happens, right? People meet, they fall in love and before they know it, they’re sharing everything with this one person. Selling their soul, almost.” A self-deprecating smile quirked his lips and the vampire found himself shrugging. “Not happy, per se… but… content enough.”
Miss Fortune || Alexei & Sabre
severing-angel:
“But you’re not here because you think I’m good looking,” Alexei countered. “Nor are we on a date, so you don’t really count. But if you’re looking for validation, then yes, you’re much better than him,” he mused with a small smile.
The surgeon raised a brow before shaking his head in slight amusement. “It made my life a bit more peaceful, I’ll admit,” he said with a shrug before nodding his head at the other in response to his thanks. Even if it seemed… a little forced. Alexei hummed lightly at the vampire’s chuckle, almost forgetting how Sabre sounded when he was amused. It certainly had been a while.
“You sound like you want me going on dates,” the angel laughed in amusement, his eyes twinkling at the thought. “I’ll be busy, more like it. Thankfully, most of my shoots have been close to here, so I haven’t had to leave home. Especially with my job and whatnot.” Pausing, Alexei averted his gaze before grabbing the whiskey bottle, pouring himself another glass. “It didn’t work out,” he muttered flatly, the temperature in the room changing just a little. He gestured towards Sabre’s glass, non-verbally asking if the vampire wanted more. “And yourself? I’ve been talking too much. How’s life beyond hiding from people?”
Standing from the seat, Sabre nudged his glass further along the table top and shifted to sit in the booth, opposite Alexei. He may as well get comfortable, it would appear the pair were going to be there a while. “I’m here to get wasted though, and I saved you from the worst date in history so now we can do that together?”
His lips quirked into a smile and he found the others gaze with his own. “Whenever I vanish, I make everyone’s life peaceful, I gotta admit. I feel like people breathe a little easier.” Snickering, he brought the glass to his lips and took a quick drink, casting a furtive glance around the room and checking out the other patrons. He couldn’t afford to let his guard down too much, despite the friendly company.
“Of course I want you to go on dates. How you gonna find “the one” or some shit, if you don’t dip your fingers in some pies. Is that a saying? Do you guys say that shit? I feel like I’ve heard that before…” His ramblings ended in a small grumble as Sabre passed the glass between both hands on the table and met Alexei’s eyes, a ghost of a smile edging along his lips. “Why didn’t it work out? What did I tell you before? You deserve happiness more than most. What happened?” He asked, heedless of the fact that he was prying before the questions regarding his own life since the last time they spoke, caught his attention. A soft hum rose in his throat and Sabre stretched himself out as he reclined against the booth seat and lifted both shoulders in a small, barely discernible shrug. “It’s been good, yeah. I’ve been laying low, but happy enough, you know?”
Miss Fortune || Alexei & Sabre
severing-angel:
Alexei only shrugged before tilting his head, matching Sabre’s movements. “They don’t,” he said flatly before setting his glass down, looking over Sabre curiously. “So he was the only one. Well, my luck is really turning out well,” the angel mused with a rather sour expression.
“Ahh…” the blonde murmured. What happened at Sabre’s inn wasn’t lost on him, especially the numerous amount of times he ran into the vampire feeding, or needing the surgeon to feed him. “I see. Well, you’ve done a very good job if you’ve been here the whole time and I haven’t seen you, or you were just avoiding me,” Alexei teased with a small smile.
“…Nothing really. Busier work hours, nothing personally exciting in my life, as you can see,” he mused, gesturing to where his date sat. “I’ve started up doing modeling though, just as a side thing. Seems to garner some interest from outside people. Didn’t know doctors were a thing for people. Or men in suits.”
Barking a sharp bout of laughter, Sabre clasped a hand to his chest, over the location of his cold, dead heart and gasped dramatically, trying with all his might to appear incredibly offended—something he definitely wasn’t. “I’m such bad company, huh? Surely I’m better than douche number one.”
Mirroring the other man’s smile, the vampire shook his head, trying to reassure the angel that his assumptions—however playful—were completely unfounded. “I wasn’t avoiding you, no. I did think you’d be happy that I wasn’t around though, asking you for favours that could cost you your job. I don’t think I ever thanked you for that… thanks.” The latter was added after a moments pause and Sabre couldn’t resist the urge to chuckle.
He’d always enjoyed Alexei’s company, the other man made him smile—sometimes entirely unintentionally. “You’re modelling now, huh? That’ll get you dates in no time. You got a great paying job and you work in the fashion industry. Yup, you’ll be neck deep in dates just soon.” Grinning, Sabre winked at his friend, a ring of surety surrounding his claim. Alexei really did need to believe in himself more. If only the man possessed even a quarter of the vanity Sabre did, he’d never be short on dates again. “Hold up though, I thought you were dating last time we spoke? Like had been on dates and stuff?”
Miss Fortune || Alexei & Sabre
severing-angel:
“I’d rather just get it over with than continue to have him bother me at work. What if he found out my home address? I can’t have that. No, if it takes me going out on a date with him and refusing to see him for future ones, then I’d rather just do that,” the angel said softly, his fingers tracing the outlines of his empty glass carefully.
The angel glanced up at Sabre’s remark before smiling in amusement. “Well, it’s not like I really wanted to, but even if I didn’t, it’s not like I have suitors lining up to date me, Sabre.” Alexei raised his hands up, already stopping the other from saying more. “I know, I know. Doesn’t mean I have to go on a date with him. But regardless, it’s not like I have all the options in the world.”
“Anyways, what’s up with you, and what’s brought you back? You’ve vanished. Haven’t seen you around in… months, really.”
“You encourage him though by even going on a date in the first place. And please, don’t tell me men… or women, don’t hit on you. You’ve got a lot going for you, why would they not?” Circling the rim of his glass with the tip of an index finger, Sabre let his head loll slightly to the side as he studied the other man, eyes narrowed contemplatively. “You’ll encourage stalkers with that shit.”
Smiling to himself, the vampire considered Alexei’s question for a beat, wondering just how honest he should be. The angel knew enough about him for his answer not to be too shocking, so being frank with him wouldn’t hurt. Shrugging, Sabre picked up his glass and took a small sip before responding.
“I was just laying low for a bit. Some of the folks staying at my Inn went missing, so… people were looking for me. Just a whole lot of bullshit really, but it was best for me to keep my head down. I’ve been here though. What about you, what’s new with you?”
Miss Fortune || Alexei & Sabre
severing-angel:
Alexei was half certain that he’d pass away right then and there. He wasn’t really sure what else he could take anyways. Watching as Sabre filled up his glass with whiskey, the angel only shook his head in slight amusement before picking up the glass and raising it towards the vampire, letting their glasses clink together gently.
“I don’t really think dating’s supposed to work like that,” he mumbled before downing the glass in one go. He really needed something to take away this night, and if Sabre was offering, then why not? The angel cocked a brow at the vampire at his teasing toast, only shrugging in response. Why not? Not to the adoring part, but at least ‘old friends,’ as Sabre put it.
“Not really my choice,” he remarked. “Wouldn’t stop bothering me at work until I did go out on a date with him. Figured it’d just… stop him from harassing the nurses and patients if I just went out with him once. But no, not anything I’m looking for, trust me,” Alexei retorted. “Besides, it’s not like I date people anyways. It’s just to get him off my back. He’s not really the type to take no for an answer.”
Clinking his glass against the other males, Sabre bobbed his head faintly then downed the entire contents in one go, following suit. If Alexei was planning to get wasted that night, then he was determined to join him. It’d been hellish the last few months, and the vampire figured he deserved the downtime.
“Because he was persistent you decided to date him?” Wrinkling the bridge of his nose in distaste, Sabre set his glass down and quickly refilled it, alongside Alexei’s too. “You can’t do that, dude. You never get rid of weirdos like that… but I guess you’re lucky this time, he seemed to take the hint.” Picking up a couple of napkins from the other side of the table, the vampire threw them down onto the remaining droplets of water drenching the surface.
“He’s the rudest asshole on the planet, and here was me thinking that position had been filled by yours truly. I mean, I used to practically devour my companions, but he’s on a whole other level.” Clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth, Sabre sought out the other man’s gaze and raised an eyebrow. “Why are you even giving idiots like him any of your time? You’re way too nice, you know that, right?”
Miss Fortune || Alexei & Sabre
severing-angel:
Groaning internally inside, Alexei couldn’t help but feel his heart sink into dismay as it seemed that Sabre had no intention of going anywhere, really. Especially after calling over a whole bottle of whiskey. The angel eyed the two men warily before glancing at the vampire with a rather sheepish glance in his eyes. “Sabre…” he said warningly. “You shouldn’t say those things…” Though, the angel knew without a doubt that in this rare moment, he had to agree; the man was irritating, to say the least. But he couldn’t say that out loud.
“M-Maybe we can call it a night?” Alexei said gently, carefully prying his hands and arm away from the other man’s grasp. “Seems like this… will have to happen some other time. I should be heading back home anyways,” he murmured, avoiding eye contact from both men. The date let out a huff of annoyance, clearly shooting daggers in Sabre’s direction.
“Well, this night would have been perfect without certain interruptions,” the date spat before tipping his glass over on the table, purposefully spilling the contents. “Whatever. This joint was cheap anyways. Next time, I’ll pick the place. A better place,” he remarked as he gathered his belongings to stand from the booth. “Where assholes like this… hung-up boytoy of yours won’t come around. Who knew you went around like that, Alex? Honestly, you’re welcome I even wanted to go on a date with you,” he snorted before walking off towards the doors.
The blonde sank lower in his seat, not really wanting to retort how he didn’t want this to happen at all and was forced into it, nor did he have anything with Sabre at all, nor would a second date even occur, but he didn’t feel like he was in a fighting mood at all. Alexei only tried mopping up the spilt drink with some of the napkins on the table, pursing his lips as he avoided saying anything to the vampire.
“Why not? The whole time you’ve known me, when have I ever held my tongue? I think it, I say it. Figured that’s the best way to be. Honesty is the best policy or some shit like that, right?” The question was rhetorical, directed at no one in particular but it got Sabre’s point across all the same. He strongly disliked the stranger at the table and didn’t much feel like feigning nice just so the other man would stick around and his feelings would be spared. His absence wouldn’t affect the vampire anyway, but he genuinely hoped he hadn’t trodden on anyone toes. If Alexei did like the douche, Sabre would just have to help his friend get better taste in men.
When the bartender arrived at the table as Alexei seemed to be making his excuses and the date was all flustered and ready to stomp off, the vampire thanked the man and poured himself another drink, filling the angel's glass after. His gaze flicked to the date as the man ranted and insulted everyone within the vicinity before stomping out of the bar in an aggrieved huff.
“Well, someone had a temper, huh? Tell me, Alex, what the fuck kind of appeal does someone like that hold for you? You were telling me to try dating last time… if this is what happens on them, I’m so glad I never tried that shit. I’d have eaten the bitch alive…” Grumbling beneath his breath, the vampire hefted his glass from the table and held it out towards Alexei, hoping the man would join him in a toast.
“Shall we drink to something? How about… old friends? I mean… I know we’re not exactly that, but… you adore me anyway.” His joke fell easily from his lips, trying to lighten the mood as their gazes connected across the table top. “But we gotta talk about these men you’re meeting up with, man… you’re definitely being charitable with that dude. How the fuck did this date even happen?”
Miss Fortune || Alexei & Sabre
severing-angel:
Alexei was torn between defusing the situation, conversing with Sabre, or trying to resume the already god-awful date. “I-I’m having water…” he stammered, gesturing towards the glass on the table, though, knowing the vampire, that wasn’t going to cut it, especially at a night here with a bar freshly stocked with all sorts of liquor. The surgeon watched forlornly as Sabre began snarking with his date.
The angel could feel the other man tense up at Sabre’s remarks, the grip on his arm tightening and jerking the blonde a little forward, as if to show that they were on a date. “Sorry pal, but it’s not charity. He’s into me, you know. And you’re interrupting our time together. I don’t need charity to go on a date with him, which is a lot more than I can say for you,” he spat.
Alexei wished he could just melt away. Who needed a massive sword to cut things if he could just melt into oblivion instead. “…I-It’s not a charity event…” he mumbled weakly, hoping Sabre would stand do, lest he edged on the other man into a full on brawl.
Huffing a sigh, Sabre shook his head slowly and shot a hand into the air, snapping his fingers to capture the barman’s attention as he called over to the male, ordering them a bottle of whiskey and an extra glass. If the random ass date intended to stick around, then he best be prepared to supply his own festivities for the evening, because the vampire sure as shit wasn’t forking out to keep him well stocked as well. Replenishing strangers glasses only appealed when he’d be fed by the end of the evening.
Eyeing the stranger suddenly, Sabre pondered the merits of draining him of every last drop of blood his body contained by the time the evening was done, but the scent didn’t appeal. He seemed to be an asshole inside and out. Turning his nose up at the man, the vampire drank another few mouthfuls of whiskey, emptying his glass then slamming it down onto the table top with a loud exhale and a hearty laugh.
“I’m super hurt by your comments, bro. Please stop, you’re hurting my feelings,” he responded, completely deadpan as his gaze drifted to the date. It may be interesting to keep him around for a while, Sabre found him wholly entertaining—even if he was irritating as fuck. “It should be, Alex… this one is…” His words trailed off as Sabre quirked an eyebrow and shot his friend a look, betraying just how strange he thought the other man to be. “Ya know…”
Miss Fortune || Alexei & Sabre
severing-angel:
Alexei could feel himself melting under the other man’s gaze, sure that whatever was going on in his date’s mind was… nothing he’d enjoy knowing about. He was taken out of his thoughts for a moment when he felt a light tap on his shoulder. Turning his gaze (despite his date still groping his arm), Alexei’s eyes widened at the sight of the the vampire smiling down at him. “S-Sabre?!” he exclaimed, breaking his distraught expression for a brief moment.
It had been months since he’d seen the man last. Not that… they were particularly close, but Alexei never minded seeing him every once in a while, before the vampire basically vanished from the face of the earth. Until now, it seemed. “W-What… what are you doing here?” he stammered, before casting a glance back at his date, who was clearly not amused at being interrupted.
“Sorry, but we’re in the middle of something,” the other man snarked, his grip tightening on Alexei’s arm. “Alexei, who is this guy anyways? Some other past fling or whatever? Doesn’t seem to be much of your type” he chuckled, casting a glance at Sabre again. The surgeon only averted his gaze, wishing he could apologize to the vampire for his date’s behavior.
Sniffing, Sabre raised both shoulders in a nonchalant shrug and grabbed the spare seat at the table, turning it around with a quick twist of his wrist then slumping down into it as he met Alexei’s eyes, behaving as though the date didn’t exist. Which to the vampire, he truly didn’t. The man had zero manners, and he had to wonder just what the angel saw in him.
“The one and only, yeah. I’m having a drink, what about you?” He asked before silencing himself with a sip of the whiskey. The pleasant burn while he swallowed coaxed a smile to the vampire's lips that only seemed to widen when he heard Alexei’s dates comment. Unfazed by the stranger's remark, Sabre shifted his gaze between the pair and settled his tumbler atop the table. “Now I’m in the middle of you two,” he replied calmly, his tone low and measured. “I’m sorry, are you in the middle of some charitable event or something?” Sabre posed, averting his eyes to Alexei and biting back a smile.
Implying the man was somehow on his current date because he’d been gifted the opportunity was perhaps childish, but it amused the vampire greatly—even if the insults didn’t truly bother him. “If I’d have known you were giving to charity right now, I’d have come back later… what’s the event? What did the dude to do win this opportunity?”
Miss Fortune || Alexei & Sabre
“C’mon, doll. Tell me that wasn’t heroic or something,” the man smirked as he leaned across the table, his hand falling to Alexei’s bicep, grasping the surgeon’s arm. “Trust me, if that doesn’t get you going, I dunno what will. You and I are the same, you know? Saving people’s lives every day. The true shining knights, eh?”
The blonde couldn’t help but try and pull his arm away, clearly no longer interested in the encounter. What was he even thinking, going on a date like this? Was this really even a date? But the other man really, really seemed to like him… Enough that his phone wouldn’t stop blowing up at the hospital until he agreed to go on this date. “Right… Listen, I gotta… go to the bathroom real quick,” he murmured, averting his gaze as he tugged on the other man’s hand grasping his arm.
Persistent as ever, the other man just grabbed Alexei’s hand with his other hand, running his thumb along the surgeon’s knuckles slowly. “Oh, don’t play coy with me… Listen, I can join you, if that’s what you want. Just say the word, and I can give you something real special…” The angel could feel his face flushing up, wanting nothing more than to leave and wash off this date with a warm shower.
@fysabre
After laying relatively low for the past few months, Sabre chanced a night out, hitting the first bar he came across and avoiding Crimson altogether. He wasn’t entirely sure who still frequented his previous usual from everyone in Bright Haven, but risked bumping into some unfriendly faces if he stopped by this evening. It was just best for everyone involved if Sabre avoided the place like the plague.
His chosen bar for the night was nothing special—pretty much the typical dive where cheap dates happened and people snuck into the bathroom for a quickie when the barman’s attention was averted—it was exactly what he needed though. He could remain fairly undetected in such surroundings. Glancing around the room, Sabre curled his fingers loosely around the glass of whiskey he’d ordered and leaned back in his seat, stretching his legs with the move and successfully rubbernecking without drawing too much attention to himself.
As his dark gaze scanned the patrons, one in particular caught his attention. Even with just the back of the man’s head visible to him, the vampire could already tell that his old friend occupied one of the seats, shifting uncomfortably and clearly trying to escape the man in his presence. Grinning, Sabre grabbed his drink and stood from the bar stool, sauntering over to Alexei’s table and lightly tapping the other man on the shoulder, trying to garner his attention while completely ignoring the others companion. “Well hello there, you. Long time no see. How you been?”
