The world is not an ugly place
For my best friend.. The world is not an ugly place How could it be When you are here inside it? I recall those rose petals and ferns Turning out from within you Blooming before me Through your budding eyes And ivy hair. Trellises traveling down your spine And creeping up mine As I buried a seed of love Inside my heart. The roots took hold so fast. I recall the waves crashing Caressing my insides Your warm waters blue Drowning me until I took a breath Of you. Beauty is ephemerality. A Japanese concept that Builds and breaks for eternity-- Beauty is forever beauty But its beholders are always Passing through. The world does need you. The world awaits you And you need swords And green potions and Spell books and meditations To help you get through Dark caves and foggy forests. But the best will come again Because you will come to it. Just as when I came upon you Leaves vibrated green, Darkness grew depth, Stones texturized energy, Air had weight. My eyes and my eyes' eyes Shot open again and The world was beautifully Ephemeral And painfully Radiant. The light will return to you, too. Your ship is docked for now, It's sails will soon unfurl And whip upon the salty winds where You will see the turning of roses And feel the caressing of waves As the shore disappears behind your shoulder. You shan't ever be alone Because you will meet me And many me's once again. For we are just the passersby Stumbling upon your gulf Of beauty.

Diana Al-Hadid once described her work as “impossible architecture”, created by embracing her gut instinct and seeing where it takes her. The Brooklyn based, Syrian born artist’s work can be difficult to describe, monumental and ethereal mixed media works with a myriad of references throughout art history: her captivating installations, sculptures and paintings feature elements of figures from the Renaissance and classical imagery, forms that appear to be disintegrating into a “dripping” tower.

Romance and dating is usually, “Okay, we’ve been on 10 dates or 25 dates or whatever, we’re in love! We’ve been dating for 18 months and it’s great, let’s get married! We’re married now, we’ve arrived!” But friendship – no matter what kind it is: normative best friendship, passionate friendship, romantic friendship, queerplatonic friendship – is: “Who are you? I think I like you. Now I know you more. I like you more. Now I know you more. I like you more. You’ve changed. Who are you now? I know you again. I like you again. I know you more. I love you. I know you more. I love you. I just saw you in a new way. Still love you.”
