The Pumpkin Show is really one of the best perks and quirks of living in the middle of nowhere. My beauty pageant days are behind me, but my crown collection from years of winning Little Miss Pumpkin are going to make great artifacts for whatever museums decide to have a Quinn Fabray exhibit in 30 years.

Wow I didn’t know people created museums for evil dictators. Can’t wait to tell my kids that I was face to face with the antichrist the night she won prom queen.

The annual Circleville Pumpkin Show is truly one of Ohio’s finest cultural experiences. Future generations will look upon the pet parade and gaze in wonder at our sophisticated traditions. 

The level of campiness of the pet parade is almost comparable to the small town gay bar drag shows on Wednesday nights starting at 8 pm. And just so you know, I can get any white boy with brown hair and brown eyes a fake ID if you’re interested, amigo.

She was only here for Carmen.  That was it, plain and simple.  The only reason she was here was to be a good cousin and support Carm.

The thing was, Flor still didn’t know where she stood with the school – she didn’t know how to fit in, or if she was supposed to fit in at all.  Everybody had already formed their own opinions of her as it was, and that was what had driven her to the Skanks in the first place.

Did she even fit in there?  Or anywhere?

Were they even here tonight?  God, was she lame for coming?

She was such an idiot.

Flor paced around a little, twisting and spinning on the heel of her stiletto (it granted her a whole four inches, and she would take all the extra height she could get), before making her way to the punch bowl and pouring herself a glass.

A glass that she almost immediately spit back in her cup, before remembering that, hi, yeah, she was supposed to be cooler than that.

“Okay.  Yeah.  Spiked.”

Jude was just coming off the dance floor when he spotted The Littlest Skank across the gymnasium. Surprisingly in a good mood even inside the confines of McKinley but that might have been mostly because of the mix of being drunk AND high. Even if he spent most of his time at school being high, being drunk was helping his dancing and tolerance of most of the student body.

“Can’t handle a little bit of rum, Lopez? ” Jude asked with a chuckle in his voice then poured some punch into his glass. “If you need to take the edge off I still have half the joint I smoked in the car.”

Mortifying. Honesty and truly mortifying. 

That was the only way to describe the situation and how Jane felt at this current moment. But she wouldn’t let anyone see her fall - no matter how much she wanted to cry and scream. No matter how much she wanted to leave the night behind her and focus on moving forth. She’d be graduating soon enough so clearly there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

But there was something so devastatingly awful about seeing Chloe Porter and the other Titans laughing at her as she sucked up her win and danced with a dog, even though it made her look like a fool. Something that proved that this was just another prank along with the spiked punch, the disgusting use of a prom song and whoever it was streaking at the game.

Once the song was over, she immediately moved outside of the gym, not rushing but walking fast with her head held high. She just needed to breathe. She needed to have everyone stop staring at her.

Let no one see you fall, Jane Hayward. You are better than this.

Jude couldn’t believe what had just happened. All of the pranks they had pulled up until then seemed pretty harmless but this was taking it too far. There wasn’t much he could do. He wished that he could just punch a Titan in the face, knowing that there was no other group of people who could have been behind this. But he also didn’t want to end up bringing attention to himself because of a dumb assault charge. So while the rest of the gym was still in the midst of laughing about the situation, Jude went out to follow the Gleek to make sure she was okay. 

“Hey, Hayward.” Jude called out, he thought about his next words carefully. Are you okay? Always managed to make girls break down crying so he just simply scoffed and said, “Those guys are assholes. In a few years they’ll be begging to work for you so in the words of late great Sir RuPaul Charles, if they ain't paying your bills pay them bitches no mind...or whatever.”
