Other Worlds poster mid-printing session at the Rizzeria
Other Worlds is happening again this year! This is my design for the poster, which will be printed in two-colour risograph.
Nicky Minus drew the poster for the first ever Other Worlds in 2014 and will be selling her new book, Shame Self-Portrait vol.1, at the zine fair this Saturday at Marrickville Town Hall.
Exhibitor: Psychic Hysteria
Psychic Hysteria is a small record and zine label from Australia. We put out awesome sounds, words and pictures.
We're only small but our goal is to act as a source of capital and experience for artists to put out work that they are in full control of.
We believe that a DIY ethos is more than an aesthetic but rather forms part of a larger political movement that allows us to create worlds of participatory democracy. We also believe that DIY can express itself physically in many different forms. That’s why we hope to build a wide ranging catalogue that spans the gamut of digital downloads, lavishly printed books, photocopied zines or hand crafted vinyl pressings.
Psychic Hysteria will be debuting their new zine Fakation at Other Worlds this Saturday.
Exhibitor: Helio Press
Helio Press is the latest project from illustrator and zine lifer Ashley Ronning. Specialising in illustrative risograph printing and DIY publishing, Helio is dedicated to the art of imbuing paper with the stories and experiences of authors and illustrators. Capturing the fluid and abstract in the act of committing ink to the page. Located in Melbourne’s inner north – three planets from the sun – it’s the home of free range, physical art; hand-stapled by the owner of an expansive collection of inky denim.
Helio Press will be selling their wares at Other Worlds this Saturday at Marrickville Town Hall.

Exhibitor: The Refugee Art Project
Refugee Art Project was conceived amongst a collective of academics and artists united by a concern for the plight of asylum seeker and refugees who come to Australia and who are then locked up indefinitely in Australian detention centres. We conduct regular art workshops with people in the Villawood detention centre and with refugees in the community, from which we hold art exhibitions and have produced a number of zine publications.
Our organization seeks to facilitate the art and self-expression of asylum seekers and refugees, which is then presented to the Australian public through our exhibitions and publications, in order to challenge and educate the wider community. We are a grassroots initiative that harnesses the power of artistic and cultural productions in the struggle for refugee rights and social justice. From late 2010, more than 500 artworks created by Refugee Art Project participants have been exhibited to the Australian public.
Our contributors are a diverse mixture of people, including men, women and children, who come from Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Iraq, Iran, Syria, the Kurdish regions of the Middle East and Burma. Whilst the work showcases a diverse range of styles, mediums and approaches, our exhibitions are unified by the common themes of trauma, exile, hope, and endurance that have marked the lives of refugees. We are a not for profit organisation and one hundred percent of sales on selected artworks goes to the asylum seekers and refugees concerned. Often it is sent back to support the families that asylum seekers were forced to leave behind.
Refugee Art Project are a longstanding presence in the Sydney zine scene and will be among the many stallholders at Other Worlds this Saturday, 21 May at Marrickville Town Hall.
Here’s my poster for the Other Worlds zine fair! Put it in your diaries though you can grab some pre-fair goodies and support it here: pozible.com/project/205304

#otherworldszinefair
Other Worlds Zine Fair aims to create an alternative space for the exhange of art and ideas. It began in 2014 as a critical response to the MCA zine fair's connections to mandatory detention through their sponsorship by Transfield. The connections are ongoing – and so is Other Worlds. This year the program will expand across three days to include heaps of zines, exhibitions, talks, workshops, and more.
Applications for stalls and workshops are due by Sunday 12 April, and can be completed here: http://goo.gl/forms/IJNcZWZpGA
