God, these present and future interests in property are killing me. It’s all fun and games with the fee simple interests, but then contingent remainders and open classes subject to partial divestment have to come fuck shit up. Lawyers, get your shit together and write explicit, clear trusts and will. Come on, guys.
I did that thing in class today where you try to take notes as you're falling asleep.
Watching Law and Order counts as doing homework, right?
Almost caught up with last week’s work, but still so far.
"A promise that is bargained for is consideration if the promised performance would be consideration."
help. cannot compute.
That moment you come to class thinking you are prepared but soon realize you spent three hours the night prior reading the wrong cases.
"It is the law, not indignation, which governs." (This is basically everything you need to remember for crim law when dealing with moral obligations.)
Just turned in my first T-FIHRR case brief! Celebratory beer? Yes.
Today, towards the end of Legal Writing class, a 2L showed us the memos she wrote for an internship in Trademark law stuff. There was a moment in the middle of her presentation where I freaked the fuck out. I was like, "holy shit, there's no way I can do this, I'm not good enough, how are we supposed to do this," then I realized that it's only the second week. And then, I thought, "fuck yeah, I can do it."
Holy shit
I just understood an entire court case. Does that make me a lawyer yet?
There is a girl whom I sit next to in most of my classes who smokes. This is a huge problem for me. If I had to pick my favorite smell in the world, it would definitely be cigarette smoke. I quit 5 years ago and i’ve all wanted this entire week is a cigarette. I’m kind of terrified of starting again. For now, I will continue to violate my friend’s space by deeply inhaling her scent every few minutes.
The best part about being confused about restitution, reliance, and expectation remedies in contract law? Making new friends while discussing them after class. :)
We are assigned ~6 court cases to brief a day and I can only get through ~2.5 a day. I might be in over my head.
You think you know, but you have no idea
Think of the hardest class you had in undergrad (maybe in terms of amount of readings/grasping concepts, i.e. Foucault or something) then multiply that by five (classes) and then again by four (times a week). Now, I was never good at math, but I think that equals a really fucking lot. That is exactly what law school is.
(don't get me wrong, it is also extremely fascinating and complex and a little silly at times)
I thought a lot about how to go about this blog. At first, I wanted to write mainly about personal experiences in a semi-professional fashion, but it just seems like it won't capture everything I want this thing to be? Basically, this blog will realistically, most likely consist of feelings, snarky comments, court cases I find interesting, revelations, developments, changes, frustration, whining, things I find idiotic, and knowledge. Mostly (hopefully), sharing knowledge.
