My New Inspiration

Okay, so I have a confession. I have found myself a little obsessed with Dove Cameron.

I recently got into the Disney Descendants franchise and was instantly in love with the story, the music and the characters and, being a theater kid and having been apart of my highschool’s Drama Club, I wanted to see some of the work behind the movies.

I watched interviews, Disney’s challenges and live performances that were relevant to the franchise and those were my first looks at Dove Cameron, the actress who plays Mal. I thought she was a talented actress and I wondered what other work she had done and found more interviews on her. (This is something I do whenever I find an actor/actress I think is talented or looks/sounds familiar because I may have seen other their other works but didn’t know it. That and it gives me a chance to learn who that person is as a person, not just a star.)

At first, I thought she was talented and pretty and I fell in love with her music. Then, I found out that she was really funny and really nice, but it wasn’t until I learned about the fact that she suffers from anxiety that it started. I found that information in more than one place and that she openly talks about it.

I was at a very low point with my depression and with finding this out, Dove brought some light to my life. To me, finding out that Dove has/had anxiety and is still able to do TV shows and movies was shocking and inspiring. I have an anxiety disorder too, so seeing someone that was able to not let that get in their way is incredible. She showed me that my anxiety doesn’t control my life. She’s become my inspiration and my idol in just a few days of knowing who she is.

Though the likeliness of me ever meeting her or her talking to me is below zero, if it were to ever happen, I would want to thank her. I’d want to thank her for just being a wonderful person and for inspiring me to have more faith in myself. (I’m literally crying as I’m typing this. You guys have no idea how grateful I am to her. She inspired me to not give up on myself.)

Well, that’s all I have to say today.

Guys, I edit professionally. This list is legit. Incorporating these suggestions before you hire an editor will save you A LOT of money. Even if you did these and nothing else, you’d see significant overall improvement in your work.

That said, you don’t have to overthink these things when you’re writing a first draft. If you write, “she said angrily” in a first draft, you can always revisit the phrasing in a second draft. I mention this because overthinking style can lead to a loss of momentum, and losing momentum is why so many people never finish a draft. Give yourself permission to write fast, write messy or ugly, and edit your draft into beauty later.
