Thanks to the popularity of our ouat specific whumptober event, we thought we'd continue the fun with a fluff themed event for February!
The same rules as whumptober apply! Below you will find a series of prompts and alternative prompts for the month of February. Each day of the week has been split into topical subsections, ranging from meet cute monday to tender thursday. For each individual day of the month, you will have three 'prompts': two buzz words and one quotation. You are under no obligation to fulfil all three prompts for the day's assignment - just one will do!

this year's prompts were chosen through an open suggestion poll (in which we received over 4,000 prompts) and a subsequent vote, where 5,019 votes were submitted. the top 28 make up the core prompts, and the febuwhump mod's favourites that remain have become the alternates. the first prompt in the 28, "vocal chords", was our number one prompt of the vote, with 1,625 total votes.
i am so insanely excited to see what you all create with these prompts, and i hope they're inspiring enough to trigger a whole month's worth of creativity for you!
as an extra added challenge, some creators will be undertaking another, smaller goal, of including apples in each of their prompt fills as an ode to the wildly popular prompt suggestion of "apples" that didn't make it through to the poll. this is totally optional, but is a good extra challenge if you'd like to take part in it!

15th - Tortured Tuesday!
Psychological Trick - False Hope - “I don’t want to be alone.’
I’m a day late because I’ve been ill but we’re here now!
Just like last time, a drawing with an extract to go with it.
Emma’s breath came in ragged gasps as the cold pressed against her skin, her legs trembling beneath her. The Neverland forest felt alive, a shadowy mass that breathed and whispered in her ears. Figures flickered in the periphery of her vision—images of her past, wounds she thought had healed but now bled fresh again. Her heart breaking. Over and over. The weight of the memories suffocated her, pulling her into a despair so thick she felt it in her bones.
Then came the visions of the future—faces she recognized but marred by pain and betrayal. Everyone she had yet to lose, every failure that awaited her. The weight of it was unbearable, the noise of it all swirling inside her head, a relentless tide of misery.
She crouched by the gnarled trunk of a tree, curling inward as if she could shut the world out. She tried to drown everything out around her but something was forcing her eyes to stare. “Stop. Please, stop. I don’t want to be alone.” But the visions pressed closer, their voices louder, and the air felt heavy with her despair.
Then, faintly, a sound drifted through the madness. A soft melody, fragile but clear, cutting through the chaos. Emma’s heart slowed, her breaths steadied. The music was comforting, like a lullaby she hadn’t realized she needed. It cradled her mind, pulling her deeper into its calm.
As her eyelids drooped, the last thing she saw was the glint of moonlight on Pan’s flute. The notes floated gently toward her, wrapping her in their cold embrace.
Despite everything, her companions, her newfound connections. Emma still felt like that lost, lonely girl, wandering through an endless night. Pan knew that, and now, so did she.
Oh wow!! First off this art work is so beautiful & heart breaking in and of itself! The different variations of Emma's lonliness, all throughout her past - the isolation of Emma off to the left hand side with her hair all tangled up and how she's curled up in on herself! So beautiful and painful ! And wow! That snippet too 🤧🤧🤧 I don't think my heart will recover so thanks for that ! Like wow she's really just a lost little girl 🤧 I want to wrap her up in a hug immediately!
13th October: Shocking Sunday!
Unrequited Love - Betrayal - “You may not need me, but I need you.”
I’m doing this a little differently. I will be drawing the prompt and adding an extract to go with it.
AU: Set In The Underworld, Neal Never Died.
Emma leaned into Neal’s body, a smirk plastering her face. “How could I ever love someone like you when I can have someone like Neal?” She let the words drip with disdain, watching as Killian’s face fell. “You’re just a pirate, Hook. You’ll never be worthy of me or my family. You’ll forever be that lonely, ruthless villain you were when we met. I don’t need you. I will never need you. My life is so much better without you in it.”
Killian’s gaze hardened, but beneath the surface, pain flickered. “You may not need me, but I need you,” he replied, his voice calm, yet laced with desperation. “You may think you’re better off, but without you, I’m just a shadow lost in the dark.”
Emma’s expression softened for a moment, the hallucination threatening to crumble. But she steadied herself, the bitter remnants of Hades’ influence pulling her back. “Neal is everything you’re not. He’s a part of my life, my future. I never loved you Hook. I transformed you into The Dark One knowing how much it would hurt. I knew the torment it would bring having Rumplestiltskin cursed inside your mind. To be haunted by the very person you spent centuries trying to defeat.”
Tears threatened to spill from Killian’s eyes, but he refused to show any signs of weakness. He examined her as he always did, looking for signs of a lie but his beaten state had left his ability to read her very hazy, and therefore inconclusive.
“Running that blade through you was the easiest decision I have ever made. You are my biggest regret. Merely a ghost of my past.
Killian did all he could to maintain himself. Her green eyes seemed to be empty, void-less. It was almost like she wasn’t even there. “Perhaps,” he said, his voice barely a whisper. “But even ghosts can haunt the hearts of the living.”
Omg two amazing pieces of work in one! The artwork for this is spectacular, and the fic itself! Wow! A beautiful and super mean piece that definitely exemplifies the whump (and angst!) in whumptober!

PLEASE interpret these however you'd like! Not only can you make whatever you'd like (drawing, writing, moodboard, etc.), for most of them you can pull from anywhere in the timeline.- Even if they are relevant to a certain season of the show. For example, we first see the yellow bug when Emma drives Henry home in the pilot, but we don't see how she got it until seasons later! (and then in season 5 it's the place where she sees... Title: shattered truths
The floor of Regina’s vault was littered with shattered potion bottles, their contents oozing across the stone. Emma stood in the center of the chaos, hands shaking as she stared at Killian. The truth serum had worked a little too well, forcing out things she wasn’t ready to say.
Killian stood there, his eyes dark with hurt, waiting for her to say something, anything that could undo the damage. But the words were already out there, too raw to take back.
“This isn’t what I wanted,” she muttered, her voice breaking. “You’re not what I wanted.”
Killian took a step back, his jaw tightening. “What the hell does that mean, Swan?”
Emma’s heart was racing, her thoughts spiraling as the potion forced every ugly truth to the surface. She hadn’t meant it like that, but once it started, she couldn’t stop.
“You—this whole thing,” she said, gesturing between them, “I didn’t want to fall in love with someone like you. Someone I can’t lose.”
His expression softened slightly, but the hurt didn’t fade. “You think you’re gonna lose me?”
“I always lose people,” she whispered, the truth of it cutting deep. “And I can’t… I don’t know how to handle it.”
Killian stepped closer, gently placing his hand on her arm, but she pulled away, afraid of what more she might say. The truth serum was ripping her open, exposing everything she tried to keep hidden.
“Swan,” Killian said softly, “you’re not gonna lose me. Not like that.”
Tears welled in her eyes, frustration boiling over as she looked at him. “But I already have, haven’t I? The darkness, all of it—it changed us.”
“You didn’t lose me,” he said firmly, stepping closer again, his hand reaching out to her. “I’m still here.”
Emma’s chest tightened as she fought against the potion’s effects, but it was no use. The truth tumbled out, one painful piece at a time. “You’re everything I never wanted, Killian. Because you’re the one person I can’t handle losing.”
For a long moment, neither of them spoke. The silence between them was heavy, filled with unspoken fears and the weight of what they meant to each other.
Finally, Killian reached for her again, this time gripping her hand tightly. “Then you’re just going to have to get used to me sticking around, Swan.”
"You're everything I never wanted" WOW! I loved how sweet this was despite the angst ridden start. It was soooo cute and beautiful, especially with Killian's affirmation at the end about how she just has to get used to him <3 so sweet!

Would You Still Love Me?
Killian pressed another kiss to Emma’s skin, pouting as he posed his question.
“But would you still love me were I a worm love?”
Emma laughed, popping another piece of popcorn into her mouth as the movie continued to play in the background, detached from their conversation as it kept chugging along in its cheesy dialogue.
“Yes, Killian, I’d still love you if you suddenly shrunk and transformed into a wriggly bug.” She ruffled her hands through his dark hair, unable to resist the temptation. “I’d turn myself into one to be with you and we’d be a happy little worm family.”
Killian glared at her, protectively curving his hand around her stomach. “Not with the babe you wouldn’t.”
“Alright.”
“Thank you for listening to your dashing rapscallion of a husband for once Swan.” Killian grinned, waggling his brows up at her from his spot on her lap. It had always been one of his favourite spots but its sentimentality had grown considerably in the last few months.
“Whoa babe.” Emma warned. “I’d hunt your worm ass down and force you to come back. You’re not getting away that easily.”
“I’d very much enjoy that love. Hunt me down whenever you wish.”
Killian propped himself up to give Emma a sound kiss and then lowered back down into her lap. As he pressed his lips to her stomach to where their daughter rested, a roaring wave of light shot through them and out across Storybrooke.
Her heart plunged down her throat. The weight of her husband had simply just vanished.
“Killian?!” Emma shrieked in horror and scrambled up in the bed as fast as her stomach would allow.
He was.
He was a worm.
But he wasn’t so shocked as she.
He didn’t have space to hold that shock. His eyes screamed in terror as they shrunk into nothing. The blinding light scalded his photoreceptor cells and he yelled until his throat was hoarse. But his efforts were futile, no sound ricocheted out of his vocal chords out into the void he was now in.
Writhing forward, his muscles pitched his head down into the folds of sheets that were now mountains to his tiny form. His gizzard, full and content before, was now demanding more organic matter to shovel into it.
His mind didn’t retain much at that moment, but it was full of fear for his Swan’s reaction. She must be terrified and absolutely distraught and that was simply unacceptable in his worm brain. He struggled forward again, trying to grasp a good hold on the bed around him as he suffocated in the cloud of fabric that had become vast oceans and peaks.
He had been down one hand before in his human form, but relying on hydraulics and the segmented quality of his body instead of three very moveable limbs was agony.
With no sense of where or how it happened, his body was disconnected from the ground and in sudden freefall as air angrily whipped around him. The twists and turns discombobulated him. He had no connection to sight. To his hearing.
All he felt was the vibrations of a large being moving back and forth above him. He was in its hold, held prisoner to the whims of the sky.
But then he plopped down onto a smooth surface. It was unlike the skin that surrounded his own body, but it was nice and warm, sending tickles through him as it swayed underneath. He would be content to lie here until the rest of his days.
But that would not be.
He was once again transferred elsewhere. The dirt was nice and moist against his drying skin but he missed the lovely warmth of the hand he had been held safely in before. It was more familiar to him.
But it did not return. He had no sense of time as a worm. He wouldn’t be able to comprehend it. But he dug and he dug, gorging himself on the matter around him and coating his body in dirt. He compacted himself further and further into the soil until his head smacked against something hard and rebounded. His path changed and changed and changed as his head smacked the same thing over and over again. He could not escape the soil and he could not escape the prison he was in. He could not escape his body.
The sadness overwhelmed his small body with no outlet for it to be released. It built and built inside him as he trudged forwards with no end in sight. No tears came and he feared he would explode with the longing and grief. He convulsed, seizing as he swam through the soil.
But wait, he felt those warm hands pluck him out once more, pulling him closer and closer to that feeling he had longed for but could not name.
And his photoreceptor cells exploded into eyes and his segmented body burst into arms and legs and structured organs once more.
The first sight with his returned human eyes was blurry with tears, from all the accumulated feelings and pain his worm body could not process before. But he knew who it was even with the way the sight was a blurry watercolour before him. With a gasp he fell to his knees, hugging the owner of the warmth that was his saving grace in his most distressing form.
Talk about shocking sunday!! Wow! This was such a fun interpretation of the prompts and I really hope you decide to complete some more prompts in the future because wow! I need to see more from you ASAP! I loved the spin you took, and I cannot even begin to convey the emotions that rolled through me as I read this! Moreover, you wrote the actual transformation & the loss of killian's autonomy so well that it made me uncomfortable [in a good way!]! You're such a vivid writer and it's so great to see!
