We sent one of our ladies to a #modclothirl appointment and she had a blast! Blog post to come this evening! 💅🏻💁👗 (at Modcloth)
Oh Austin, will you ever stop being beautiful? #ouratx #austinskyline
Breakfast Tacos that Wont Break the Bank.
If there’s one thing I pride myself on as an Austinite, it’s my ability to eat Mexican food every day without developing some sort of sodium overdose. But it’s not my fault! I mean you can literally eat tacos for every meal. But you know what they say: breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so this is a quick post to help you find the best breakfast tacos in town*.
El Tacorrido’s Drive Thru Window, aka my home away from home.
1. El Tacorrido – with 3 locations in ATX you’re bound to be close to one of these beacons of pure light. El Tacorrido is, to me, the classic breakfast taco. Three ingredients, two dollars. I tend to favor the S. First street location, but I’m certainly not the only one. **pro tip** there are TWO DRIVE THRU LANES Y’ALL. No need to sit in the more popular/visible line, just swing around the back and there’s a 2nd, almost always shorter line. Oh, and order the El Equinox, you won’t regret it. (Horchata and Espresso? Don’t mind if I do.)
2. Maria’s Taco Xpress – Another South Austin staple for me, Maria’s Taco Xpress is an experience not to be missed. If you’re worried you might be driving past it, just look for the large bust of a woman welcoming you with open arms and a $1.90 taco. There’s no drive through here, so this is the breakfast taco for Saturday or Sunday morning when you can enjoy their massive porch in the sunshine.
3. Papalote – I actually just learned about Papalote when I was sick recently and my friend brought me tacos to help me feel better. (I told you, I eat them every day.) I literally had her pull up the website on her phone so I could research them because their tacos were SO GOOD. I occasionally dabble in vegetarianism, and I have never had such a good selection of vegetarian tacos. But don’t worry meat lovers, Papalote’s skills for making tacos don’t just end with their Tortas de Coliflor (Austin Chronicle’s Critics Best Veggie Taco). Another great place to grab your $1.99 Breakfast taco, these come with any two items of your choice.
4. Taco Shack- A staple of all UT students, Taco Shack (I’m guessing) has made their fortune off of hungover undergrads for at least 30 years. They have 9 locations that grace everywhere from central downtown to Cedar Park, so there’s one near you wherever you are. Their breakfast tacos are a little pricier than our other choices, a whole $2.05 for a two ingredient breakfast taco. (For those of you playing along you may have noticed that YEP that is actually the most expensive taco on this list and I’m not mad about it.)
I hope you guys have a chance to check out at least one of the places on this list! Plus, you can throw a taco and hit another great taco stand in Austin, so let us know your favorites. I’m always looking for the next great taco.
*Please note that this article is written about the classic Mexican breakfast taco, so neither Torchy’s nor Taco Deli will be gracing this list. Both restaurants are straight up delicious, and keep your eyes out for an article coming soon that will acknowledge their Tex-Mex skilz!
Has anyone else tried @lapatisserieatx? A salted caramel eclair was exactly what the doctor ordered last week! #localatx
Last night we networked hard: bingo card in one hand and glass of wine in the other! Thanks @bossbabesatx for having us and thanks to all our new friends we met. Love the supportive female community in Austin! #ouratx
Cheers to this weeks #wcw: all women in ATX who love beer! Check the link in the bio for our latest post on a meetup for beer enthusiasts! REMINDER: the blog will be up soon so stay tuned for the big reveal!
WCW 3/30 - Beer Necessities
One thing we should just get out of the way right now...is that I am a BIG beer drinker! IPA, stout, heffe, etc..I am all for it. The wino in the group always scoffs, but I am just not a wine gal. To me, it tastes like easter egg coloring dye (don’t lie you tried it when you were a kid).
Now Austin is a BOOMING craft beer environment and there is also a larger than normal population of female brewers! I immediately felt the need to join a female beer enthusiast group, that is a mixture of brewers, enthusiasts, and ladies who just like to have a good time and make friends. So far, I have attended 4 of their events and everytime I am shocked at how much I learn about beer!
These ladies are always very welcoming and their group always has something going on! With so many breweries in ATX, why not have a group of gals to sip with? Some of their events in the past have been a Whole Foods food and beer pairing event, bottle exchanges, and even behind the scenes tours reserved for only Meetup Members.
Join the group below and maybe I will see you out there! Cheers! Check out some of their upcoming events:
Tonight: Adult coloring and Beer at Black Star Coop
4/5: Saint Arnold’s Pint Night at Hi Hat (I will be there)
4/20: Tour and meetup at Bindlestick Brewery (didn’t even know this existed! The world of beer is so expansive y’all!)

WCW Carrie Fussell perpetuating your Wednesday groove. Dance party anyone?
WCW- Carrie Fussell
Today’s Woman Crush Wednesday goes to Carrie Fussell of Calliope Musicals and her BALLER takedown of Doc’s Motorworks’ body-shaming SXSexist sign:
Carrie didn’t just silence haters this South By, she and Calliope Musicals also played twice EVERY DAMN DAY of SXSW. Twice. If you’re not familiar with the rockin' lead vocalist of Calliope Musicals, you have to see this goddess live before she starts touring worldwide. We always need more female music icons in the live music capital, and Ms. Fussell has a captivating, frenetic voice and energy that promises to shape the music world renowned ATX music scene.
Have a beautiful day appreciating females and giving them high fives! -LB
The second cocktail bar of husband-and-wife team Michael and Jessica Sanders, Backbeat is now opened and finding its rhythm along a bustling section of South Lamar Boulevard.
Now that#sxsw2016 is over, let's focus on a local favorite! Our latest post is about the @drafthouse and the reason it's the only theater in Austin I go to. Pic is from their Pitch Perfect quote a long that was Aca-awesome #sorrynotsorry #keepitlocal
Why The Alamo Drafthouse Is The Only Theater I Go To
Now I know that title sounds pretentious, but hear me out.
First of all, if you are a local, chances are you share my opinion. If you have never been, I hope I convince you to go and change the way you view movies and the cinema experience.
In my home town in Cali, every middle schooler and highschooler went to the movies on the weekends. That is just what you did. You messed around and gossiped and never actually watched the movie.
At the Alamo, this is 100% never even heard of! Their children’s policy is amazing because it requires the supervision of an adult, meaning I don’t have to grumble at your kids or think “Oh god youths...”. They also have their no talking policy which is enforced to the extreme. There is no whispering, no phones, and all it takes is the raising of a card to have a waiter kindly ask someone to stop talking. Boom. Done. No side convos. Bye.
Not only is it a higher quality movie experience with little to no interruptions, but they host some of the best events in the city. Quote-a-longs, special releases, 2-for-1 nights, etc. Some of my favorite memories are at these events. Specifically, there is a lot of “Girly Night” events I really enjoy, like a Pitch Perfect Sing-a-Long and even a Wild Brunch full of snippets of the hottest men in Hollywood!
The best part? Not any of these amazing things I already mentioned...but the FOOD! Wow wow wow! Their queso fries haunt my diet-focused dreams and the soft pretzel is one of the best in Austin. If you really want a treat, their milkshakes (both alcoholic and not) are out of this universe! We recommend the chocolate chip cookie dough!
Seriously, if you are a local who hasn’t been, please go. And if you have? GO AGAIN! Keep it local y’all and enjoy this amazing paradise movie theater and its many locations. Let us know how your experience was!

What a good morning we had with @kutx and @sweetspiritband! With our coffee and tacos, we woke up early and rocked out before noon! #sxsw #keepitlocal
Live Your Fest Life, Pack Your Fest Pack.
SXSW has officially arrived folks. I mean, let’s be honest South By South West has been in town for a while, but this weekend is when things get turned up. For those who don’t know, SXSW is a festival that is divided into a couple of different events that all overlap. There’s Film, Food, Gaming, Education and for the final weekend of madness...Music. Austin will see the arrival of all types of musicians from all over the world, which is pretty cool but also pretty overwhelming.
And that’s where we come in.
Specifically, I’m here to help you back your perfect SXSW backpack. While it might seem a smaller task, I promise that going into the craziness that will be downtown this weekend with a trusty, well-packed bag by your side, things will be 1000 times easier.
So here’s what I always bring with me, feel free to add any of your own suggestions, I would love to hear them!
Siena’s SXSBackpack Must Haves
Sunscreen – For when it’s hot.
Beanie- For when it’s cold. And yes, it will be both. Probably in the same day.
Bandaids – Trust me, SOMEONE will need them.
Phone Charger – And a portable charger if you’ve got one.
Deodorant – Thanks with love from everyone else
Koozies – for all those free drinks you’ll be snagging! (TBH, this isn’t essential, you’ll probably pick up some free ones)
A Swag Bag – Yep, that’s right. Throw another bag in your bag to hold all the free advertisements you’ll be getting. Think sunglasses, energy drinks, the aforementioned koozies and SO MUCH MORE!
What is your “don’t leave home without it” item? We’d love to hear from you!

Flower Power
With everything in Austin blooming and budding and bursting with spring, I'm inspired to write about the best local spots to get your floral fix.
Here's a super sexy flowchart to determine where you should get your goods!
1. Ben White Florist I worked at this local family owned South Congress flower shop for three beautiful years. I can personally vouch for the level of talent and commitment to quality you can expect. If you want a gorgeous delivery, their designer’s choice arrangements are sure to blow your loved ones away. You’ll spend $40-$50 at a minimum, comparable to other deliverable floral arrangements. 2. Central Market Need to stretch a smaller budget? Want to get your hands dirty by picking out and arranging your own flowers? Either way, Central Market is your best bet. They have a large selection of loose flower stems at close to wholesale cost, so whether your doing DIY event decor or just want to play, CM has you covered. 3. East Side Succulents This new succulent store is run by four rockstars who are obsessed with succulents and cacti. They have pre-arranged succulent dishes and gardens, as well as individual containers. If you like to live life on the edge, follow them on Insta @eastaustinsuccelents and try to resist buying their entire stock. 4. The Natural Gardener “Best Nursery” in the Austin Chronicle ten times, this beautiful all organic garden center is the perfect place to turn your thumb green. The staff is incomparably helpful and knowledgeable! It’s well worth the trip out to Bee Caves, because this eight acre slice of heaven has a butterfly garden, beautifully landscaped display gardens, a labyrinth, a tipi, chickens, goats, and an old farmhouse. BONUS!!! If you’re looking to:
a) trick out an extensive wedding or gala
b) host a floral design workshop
c) have fresh flowers delivered regularly to your local small business or restaurant,
then D. Sweetpeas Custom Floral Designs is what you need. Debra, the owner and designer, is totally worthy of a Woman Crush Wednesday post.
Blooms away! -LB
