How to Wear Designer Brands on a Budget
1. Buy Out of Season Department stores have to clear out their inventory at least twice a year and that definitely means savings for you! Think of holidays for this one, they'll usually happen on longer weekends like President's Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, or New Years. Keep yourself informed, ask the next time you go in! 2. Shop Second Season Stores These stores are really the best way to get designer brands at a fraction of the price and all the work is done for you, you'll find them all in one place. My favorites are Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls. Don't forget about online shopping though, for amazing second season finds look at HauteLook, MyHabit, or 6PM. 3. Shop "The Sale": The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale This is definitely "The Sale" for me, I wouldn't miss it for the world! This one happens around the end of July and you'll find new in season items for up to 50% off. 4. Know "The 60/40 Rule" I literally swear by this rule, it will make you the smartest shopper around. Spend 60% of your budget on classic pieces that will stay in your closet longer and 40% on trendy pieces that have a much shorter life span. Over time you'll accumulate more and more classic pieces that you'll be able to make room in your budget for trendy pieces. 5. Make Outfits This one is definitely one rule I learned the hard way. Shopping we get so excited buying all kinds of pieces we like that we don't stop to think how we'll wear them or if we even have anything to wear it with. There is no bigger waste of money than an item sitting in our closets because we have nothing to wear it with. 6. Thrift Shop Many shy away from this one but you have no idea what you're missing out on! Target higher income areas where you will most likely find higher quality pieces. Sure it's a little more work but make it fun and start your treasure hunting! Melissa B.
