“Had I had more representations of black gay women growing up I probably would’ve come to conclusions around my sexuality much earlier because I would’ve had more of a conception of what was possible and okay,” she said in the Wonderland interview. “Having more representations of black gay women now and seeing myself reflected in them has been a huge aid in seeing myself as whole, complete, and normal.” (x)

Sometimes I’m hesitant to go to new places alone. I’m not sure why, but I imagine that there are varying reasons that lie below the surface of my mind. Sometimes I’m just too lazy to get there, sometimes I overthink how I’m going to spend my time there. And on top of that, in this political climate, there are very real vulnerabilities that I face as a woman of color when going out in public.
But, I’ve been waiting for a while to visit Lake Brandt here in Greensboro, so when my friend Charlie hit me up and asked if I wanted to go to the lake… well, of course I would want to go to the lake, and of course I would want to go with Charlie.
With the light changing every hour, we were in awe at how beautiful the lake is. I was surprised to find shells on the floor of the lake! This, the second time in my life that I have ever been to any kind of lake. All of this, just a few days before I had to say goodbye to my friend, who would be relocating and moving away.
Part of the reason I love to take photos is because I love to capture people in the places we are in within a particular moment, the places that we visit and spend time at together, whether they are close friends, people who I do community work with, or complete strangers – with hopes that we won’t stay strangers, of course. The best for me, though, is that I can always look back when my memory and anxious mind fails me. I can think about that time when we were there in this particular place together.
I’m very glad that I was able to visit Lake Brandt with Charlie. I’m glad that I took my camera with me despite the risk of dropping it in the water! I want to promise myself to continue to bring my camera with me, even when it doesn’t seem practical to do so, especially when I am with people that I care about.

I had the pleasure of getting to take photos of my friend Foster, who I met in my Women and Gender Studies department. Foster has an amazing sense of humor, so it didn’t surprise me when she told me that she wanted a matching graduation robe for her dog, Keppy!
How To Make Friends As An Adult—featuring 4 of my besties talking about what makes friendship work when you’re not in school anymore
8 vegetables that you can regrow again and again.
Scallions
You can regrow scallions by leaving an inch attached to the roots and place them in a small glass with a little water in a well-lit room.
Garlic
When garlic begins to sprout, you can put them in a glass with a little water and grow garlic sprouts. The sprouts have a mild flavor than garlic and can be added to salads, pasta and other dishes.
Bok Choy
Bok choy can be regrown by placing the root end in water in a well-lit area. In 1-2 weeks , you can transplant it to a pot with soil and grow a full new head.
Carrots
Put carrot tops in a dish with a little water. Set the dish in a well-lit room or a window sill. You’ll have carrot tops to use in salads.
Basil
Put clippings from basil with 3 to 4-inch stems in a glass of water and place it in direct sunlight. When the roots are about 2 inches long, plant them in pots to and in time it will grow a full basil plant.
Celery
Cut off the base of the celery and place it in a saucer or shallow bowl of warm water in the sun. Leaves will begin to thicken and grow in the middle of the base, then transfer the celery to soil.
Romaine Lettuce
Put romaine lettuce stumps in a ½ inch of water. Re-water to keep water level at ½ inch. After a few days, roots and new leaves will appear and you can transplant it into soil.
Cilantro
The stems of cilantro will grown when placed in a glass of water. Once the roots are long enough, plant them in a pot in a well-lit room. You will have a full plant in a few months.

It’s time to build a revolutionary Church! Christians of the Left, unite!
This May Day retreat is really happening.
Leftists from all tendencies who love Jesus, as well as leftist mystics who are down with Christ’s apocalyptic vision, will be gathering in Philadelphia, May 1-3.
From the get go, we will be marching with thousands of workers for May Day and then we’ll break into several groups for some direct action. We will be regathering that evening to retreat to the woods where we have reserved cabins. The rest of our retreat will be a time of worship, prayer, and connecting to new friends who are doing the Lord’s work.
It’s time to build the Christian Left.

As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

I just want to hold hands with, hug and see my friends laugh for the rest of my life.
It’s so nice.
