Your Sweet Influence
You changed my life. Your profound significance to me can’t be fully explained, but every time I see you something inside me somersaults.Â
I can feel your light presence mix with the bitter blackness of my soul, and it’s like watching through glass, creamer being poured into a steaming cup of coffee. They swirl and dance together beautifully; I never knew how much one person could impact me.Â
Somehow the bitterness was gone after you entered my life; so shocking, so sweet, like chilled creamer counteracting the coffee’s scalding heat.Â
Your influence alone tamed my bitterness, lightened my soul, and cooled my anger. Now knowing the sweetness of your influence, how could I ever go back to being nothing more to you than a stranger?
“I stood still, vision blurring, and in that moment, I heard my heart break. It was a small, clean sound, like the snapping of a flower’s stem.” -  Diana Gabaldon, Dragonfly in Amber.
Moments.
Rain fell on the pavement outside. Pools of warm water formed in the sunken earth, small drops creating wavelets in the puddles. I closed my eyes then, and you could almost hear the sizzle of each individual raindrop as it hit the hot ground and evaporated into the air. I could feel my clothes beginning to cling onto my wet skin and my hair start to curl in the humid heat.
I will always remember that day. I sat there silently, eyes closed, head tilted up toward the sky memorizing the path of each raindrop as it trailed down my face, relishing in the serenity. I didn't care that I was drenched. I didn't care that I was alone. As I was sitting there, I didn’t seem to care at all; in that moment I was at peace.Â
The trouble with perfect moments like that, though, is deep down we know they won’t last. I clung to that moment for as long as I could because I didn't know how long it would be until I felt as peaceful and content as I did in those seconds.
I wish there was a way that I could have saved that feeling. A way to go back to that very moment and feel the same calm that engulfed me like a warm blanket fresh out of the dryer.Â
I am waiting for another moment like that, and will continue to wait, because the feeling of sheer contentment, a rarity in this world,
 is worth it.Â
Inkprint.
You can tell a lot about someone by the pictures they take, the photographs they love, the pictures they hang on their walls. Pictures are the inpkprint of what is deep in a persons heart. They have the power to describe someone without needing to say a single thing. You just look, ponder, carefully observe what someone focuses their camera lens on, and you know what is important to them. A picture is most definitely worth 1000 words.

The Most Common Mistake.
Life is more than walking down sidewalks, and noticing buildings with graffiti stained walls.Â
It is more than drinking coffee in the morning and reading old books in a dilapidated bookstore.
What life really is, is this.Â
It’s walking down streets and mourning the loss of every fallen fiery leaf on the ground.Â
It is stopping in front of walls devoured in spray-paint and stories just to admire the intricacy and pain and experience of another human being.Â
It is feeling the warmth of a coffee mug pulse between your hands on an autumn day, and it is feeling the raw emotion of words from an old book stain your soul like blood stains a white linen. Â Â Â
Life can be so much, but often the true purpose and beauty of of things which deserve to be seen go unnoticed.
Don’t make the most common mistake and follow the people who are so busy looking to the future, that you forget the breath you just took is now in the past.
Memory Stones.
I don’t like photographs.
I don’t like having my picture taken, I don’t much like taking them, And I’ve never seen the use.
That’s not to say I don’t have keepsakes, I do, But photos never — really Impart essence,
I don’t want to look at a photo to be reminded, I want to touch something, to feel something –
I keep my memories in rocks and – Scraps of paper, Coins, charms and trinkets – To any unkeen eye: they are Naught but bobbles That occupy the snug spaces On my shelves, tables and floor – And even with the faintest touch, They will not impart their memories To any other hand than mine – To any other mind than my own – Naught but stone.
I do not capture a likeness – No effigy of phantom times, But little shards of a Soul, Pieces given to me, As a standing reminder – Of the mark they have wrought On my own microcosm –
And when the times fall away, When this man-made structure – reclaimed By the vehement hand of Nature, These little bobbles will remain – And even with the faintest touch, They will not impart their memories To any other hand than mine – To any other mind than my own – Naught but stone –
But stone lives longer, Than a photograph, And I – longer than this body – Perhaps one day, another Will collect this stone – And erect with it and others alike A foundation – Wherein my memories Might build anew –
Or perhaps this stone – once belonged To another, quite like me – Who imparted her own memories Therein – and therein they yet Remain To any other hand than her’s – To any other mind than her own – Naught but stone –
I don’t much care for photographs: For they are as mortal as the faces Captured – and they mark but a moment –
I will keep my stones, my coins – And little trinkets, For it is they who last, It is they who hold not – But memory, By my Soul.

Forget yesterday. It has already forgotten you. Don't sweat tomorrow. You haven't even met. Instead, open your eyes, and your heart to a truly precious gift; today.
