There's a lot of things to criticise about TWIE, but I feel like people who aren't as invested in the actual thing as, for example, I am, tend to criticise it for the wrong thing: the Overseers being "too evil."
I genuinely don't get it and also I don't agree with it, personally.
I think the issue is, TWIE was/is (I haven't really checked, I won't lie) one of the few longer stories on the wiki in which the characters we follow are Insurgents. You know, the guys that are usually villains and act as antagonists otherwise? So duh, the Overseers are going to be more antagonistic from their perspective too. They literally kill people and weaponise anomalies, it's their whole thing.
And also, it's not like all, or even the majority of the council actually, were depicted as overly evil. 10, 7, and 6 were pretty bad, I guess, but the rest either killed themselves in one way or another, or only fought back because they were, you know, threatened.
I guess 3 was pretty bad too, but I can't even blame them like, what else were they supposed to do?
The only thing I do agree with though, a lot of them make dumb choices they shouldn't have made. Green and Rufus should've never drawn out their evil masterplans, but there would be no story otherwise I suppose?
That's fair to criticise. I don't know what I would've done if I had written TWIE and got to the Overseers that, objectively, should've been able to take the Insurgents out easily. That's why I don't really talk about that aspect of it. Idk, you tell me
But yeah even in the end, Calvins literally told by the Administrator that most of the council were just people doing their best with the power they were given. Did people just skip the final chapter?
I always thought this was a strange thing to say because TWIE shows just how not evil most of the Overseers are. Like are we forgetting unreliable narrators exist? The Chaos Insurgency are very biased and the journal was written by Clef who was GoC and is always shown to be a liar. The Accountant is one of the first ones who gets killed and the hole time I was thinking about "He was literally just a guy who wanted to be left alone 🥀" Calvin couldn't even deny what the Administrator said because they were right.
I would love to hear an unhinged rant about all 13 overseers actually, pls go on
Not sure I can rant about every single one of them right now, BUT I can rant about O5-2, and uh yeah it's going to be unhinged. I feel bad because I love Light in other depictions (Yesterday my beloved), but well, there is so much wrong in Ouroboros that drives me up a wall and everything about her here is one of them for starters. Like good grief every time she's shown she's just all sad and "oh how could you Aaron :'( Waaah Aaron where are you.... oh Aaron come back but also don't </3" Please, if you're going to once again be like "She's Jesus lol" then lean into that, have her have some fucked up morals because she thinks she's morally superior to everyone and hell have her just actually be angry and vindictive, like give me some twisted religious themes here. Her giving the spear to Calvin because she somehow thought she would get Aaron back is sooooo hilariously stupid to me. THAT REALLY WORKED OUT SO WELL HUH?!?!? Once again it's just her lamenting about a past relationship and nothing else as is her entire character in this godforsaken story. People get together, sometimes they drift apart and break up, woah no way. I cannot find it in me to be sad at all here. She was just as part of the Foundation as Aaron was, what the hell did she expect? She was not innocent in any of this. In whatever afterlife they all ended up in I would ensure she never got to see Aaron again because that's the personal hell she deserves. Aaron you fucking idiot just should have let her go, but that was his biggest problem too. What really got me was the entire basis of "You aren't the person I knew anymore, so I going to betray everything and everyone I've known and worked with because fuck it, I'm sad and I want to die, so damn everyone else at the same time." She didn't like what she became, fine, but that was her own problem to settle with. I also might be way too ace for whatever the fuck was supposed to be happening here. I'm obsessed with The Ship of Theseus, and this activated me like a sleeper agent because of course people are going to change over time but they are still that person. People aren't just snapshots of their selves in one single moment. And yeah, maybe it kind of reminded me of people who were like "You aren't the same anymore :(" and fucking left when I was depressed and dealing with the worst moments in my life <3 haha. She upsets me off on a personal, fundamental and a philosophical level, but I'm also probably putting way too much thought into it because despite all it's flaws I really loved The Way It Ends. Even if it left me feeling hollow at the end. I just really can't stand how well, any of the female characters were handled. I haaaaaate what happened to Olivia too because she just had to be used as some parallel to Sophia :|? Now I fucking feel weird because I sound like a goddamn lunatic, but hey I told you this would be unhinged.
Small list I compiled of my Lucitrand headcanons (holding back from saying weird sex shit cuz im a pervert)
Starting with Calvin:
>Hasn't been in a real romantic relationship before, despite his age. He's had situationships and weird arrangements with people, but he values his platonic relationships above all else
>Doesn't care about identity, but he'd be somewhere on the ace spectrum. Still would never describe himself as gay or queer, just because labels hold no value to him, but doesn't say he's straight either
>Estrogen would've saved her
>Finds it quite difficult to let himself be affectionate, or let himself receive affection. He doesnt push Jean away, and he's okay with stuff like hugs, holding hands, etc, especially when nobody's looking, but he's more reluctant to let it go further whenever he's fully sober
>Only ever initiates morning and night kisses, doesn't really kiss Jean throughout the day otherwise
>It's not that he's opposed to affection, he just isn't sure how to respond to it like a normal person
>Left a cute note out for Jean once, and upon seeing how happy it made him, Calvin started leaving out more
>Big spoon
>Doesn't love that Jean sometimes steals his clothes, but never stops him either
>Sometimes he remembers that Jean's charisma is an anomaly, and becomes unsure about whether he's truly in love with him or if he's being influenced. Isn't sure how to bring it up either
>Somehow more competent an Overseer than Jean
>Watched an ungodly amount of recorded content that existed of Jean while initially researching the Overseers and became very intrigued by him from the get go
Moving on to Jean:
>Has has many partners throughout his long life, but few lovers
>Would probably describe himself as bisexual, even if other lables would work better
>The loosest Overseer
>Really values strong connections with other people, but has experienced mostly short lived flings and relationships that went nowhere. Really wishes for a happily ever after, but is too afraid of disappointment
>Scared of his own shadow
>Very affectionate, loves hugging Calvins arm and holding onto him. Even minimal contact makes him all giddy
>Perfectionist, but has to tolerate Calvins mess /a lot/
>Likes to feel close to him even when Calvin's not around. Will wear his clothes, or carry around a button he lost, or read the notes he's left him so much that the edges of the paper starts wearing down
>Somehow always ends up tangling their limbs whenever they're sleeping in the same bed
>Doesn't approve of Calvins fashion choices
>Sometimes remembers that Calvin lowkey slimed out everybody he's ever known and that he was lowkey gonna be next, isn't sure whether that's scary or hot (it's both)
>Loves fancy food, both preparing and eating in restaurants. Calvin eats straight garbage and Jean doesn't approve
>Cries during movies
>Overall just kind of a wimp and Calvin's always very irritated about it, but rarely pushes him. Jean's anomaly keeps his anger issues at bay
>Adam wants him dead sooooo bad
I have a couple more but I might share them some other time woopsie
on a scale of 1-13 how much do you care about the ouroboros o5 council as a collective and I mean all 13 of them just asking
I'd say pretty high, 11-12? I love how each other of them is so different. I've definitely got my favorites, but I enjoy them all, well except one but I really don't want to go on an unhinged rant unless I'm asked.
People are so nice, I'm glad you guys liked the fic :]
I've posted my first fic, LUCITRAND nation come get your food! https://archiveofourown.org/works/86201371
this fic was supposed to be hurt/comfort but I think it ended up being hurt/no comfort instead oops...
I can stop thinking about these two idiots I love them
I might color them in later. For now, this is my birthday gift to myself! Calvin Lucien and O5-4 Yaoi (I will draw them properly soon don't fret)
Me and the guy Ive been planning on killing for ages now
In this chapter, I loved how their eye contact is often emphasised, and how Jean is always described as handsome from Calvins perspective. "His laugh sounded like music" Okay sure buddy. Even later on, his dead body is described as handsome. That's some gay ass shit. I know the intense eye contact was meant to be like, Calvin not being affected by Jean's charisma/Jean being intimidated by Calvin, but it read as gay gay homosexual gay to me. Billions must ship Lucitrand
Happy pride month by the way
Short comic inspired by SCP 001 "The Children" by djkaktus
"I am convinced there is no greater sin than the one we committed to create that perfect gun, and I am half convinced the Overseers only signed that deal with Death to avoid the fires of Hell we’re all now destined for" This too is yaoi
have you ever drawn the overseers from ouroboros? Can you draw Aaron Siegel? i'd love to see your interpretation of him
Good lord I always wanna draw them, but since we have actual photos and Im not good at translating realism into my style, i was always kind of intimidated. I hope u appreciate my attempt on Aaron tho!! Im open for suggestions on how to improve it ofc
I just finished my (at this point, weekly) reread of Ouroboros and I feel like I start liking this guy more and more each time. Arians and Sophia wanted that twink pussy bad and I cant blame them
Timeout ft. Lillian + Aaron Siegel She got them wires as chew toys Also this is my take on Aaron Siegel, so - version underneath.
