Devin Kelly, from "How to Drown"
She is raw and soft like rabbit hide. Her hands are small, her eyes are wide.
She is hard and hungry like a fox's tooth. Her hands are eager, her eyes are sly.

Golden Autumn in Spain đŸđ„
October 2024
One day you think: I want to die. And then you think, very quietly, actually I want a coffee. I want a nap. A sandwich. A book. And I want to die turns day by day into I want to go home, I want to walk in the woods, I want to see my friends, I want to sit in the sun. I want a cleaner room, I want a better job, I want to live somewhere else, I want to live.
is this a life? i donât know. i make another cup of coffee. stare at a tree from my balcony. write in my journal. take a hot shower. i call my sister and say nothing of value. she listens anyway. i make another coffee. read a book that gives me bad dreams. pick up my pen to write and put it back down. another flip of the calendar i carry in the center of my chest. i am learning to let my heart open up again
This is the same thing over and over again. Palestinians die every day, but it gets a lukewarm headline from mainstream media because death and destruction is inherent to Arabness. Then an aid convoy with white workers is obliterated, and now both the president of the United States and the president of Israel are making statements apologizing for âthe poor protection of aid workers.â At one point we were seeing multiple reports a day of paramedics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society dying, but nothing. Crickets. Because they donât care. And even in these âremorseful statementsâ there is a strategic reminder that white lives hold more weight than brown lives.

For the New Year, 1981 - Denise Levertov
âItâs not ânaturalâ to speak well, eloquently, in an interesting articulate way. People living in groups, families, communes say littleâhave few verbal means. Eloquenceâthinking in wordsâis a byproduct of solitude, deracination, a heightened painful individuality.â
