Poseidon broke into a run towards her the second she forced the monster off. It couldn’t be alone, that was not how the minions of Hades worked, and she had collapsed on the sand, gory and unmoving besides the occasional jerk of a limb. He felt terrible to even think it, but it was good Ceto had been attacked so close to the water. He could help her this way, use his powers to protect her.
If she accepted him. He had made her so upset during their last conversation, or at least he thought he had from her expressions. The sea god had done so much completely, utterly wrong. She was one of those things, and now he had to fix this immediately.
He knelt by her side to assess the damage. Teeth had ripped her to shreds, claws had breached the surface of her skin. It couldn’t be the work of a telecine, and the earth shaker breathed a sigh of relief, casting his eyes to the creature, a few metres away. It was a generic sort of monster, the kind bigger ones used for their bidding, and while it wasn’t ideal at least now Poseidon had time to help the goddess.
He tapped her unaffected cheek, summoning saltwater to his side and washing her in it, hoping she would draw power from it. “Ceto, can you hear me?”
Ignoring the pain seemed to have the opposite affect. Instead, she couldn't do anything but focus on the ripping pain bulging throughout her body. There was obviously some amount of damage but she didn't have enough strength to summon the water from where she lay.
Weak eyes slowly opened at the sight of a shadow on her face and the sounds of heavy footsteps. Poseidon rushed to her side, putting a hand on her clean cheek beside the tarnished, bleeding one. eh deity tried to move her head but all limbs seemed to numb. At his touch, she no longer felt skin but sea water. The goddess focused, using whatever energy was hiding deep inside of her to draw her powers out. It didn't seem to be that effective as the pain only lessened slightly. She opened her mouth to say yes, but all the deity did was nod.
How ironic it was that Poseidon, the very man that had pissed her off, the very man that was still her old, and only friend was here with her at this very moment. She now wished she could take back her harsh reactions.
peaceofeirene:
Her body trembled, she feared whatever had been the source of the demon’s demise. Holding her injured arm close, she tried to pull herself away from the mess. But her body felt heavy with stickiness that now consumed her. It felt as though the blood of the demon was inflicting pain on her even after death. She took a deep breath reminding herself of what she was best at, being calm. Sighing she finally took notice of the tall blonde that approached her, bringing water with her to wipe away the carnage that had taken just moments ago. She dropped the rock she still held in her hand, and shook her head. “Th-that wasn’t me,” She stammered trying to find a way to explain, but the woman seemed to not be bothered by it.
Shocked she met eyes with her, slowly nodding. She wasn’t alright, but she would have to pretend otherwise. This was not the behaviour of the embodiment of peace. The sudden appearance of the woman had caused her to almost forget her own wounds. Looking down at the bleeding slash, she realized it would likely infect if not treated soon. “You can heal it?” Eirene was astonished as she held out her arm, there were few gods with the ability to heal and none of which had been the woman before her. “Who are you?”
Ceto gently kneeled down with concern. She did not know the woman who was perched against one of the large rocks, but she was hurt and if she was on her seas, she was Ceto's responsibility. She shushed the frail woman before her and shook her head, ignoring whatever explanation she'd tried to give. It wasn't important.
The deity caught eyes with her and smiled, making sure she was indeed okay. Ceto did not say anything at first, only gentyl holding the girl's arm and placing a hand over the wound. Slowly, the water in her hands made contact with her wounds and took away most of the damage leaving a small temporary scar. She looked up and nodded. "I can't heal it fully, my abilities do not go to that extent but for the most part, yes, I can." She paused for a bit. "Ceto." She simply replied, not explaining further on.
sanityavoidance:
"Yes your whatnots. I find certain terms to be laughable and awkward." She nodded. "Made up words are so much better sometimes." Many would disagree. She couldn’t help but wonder what Calliope would have to say on the subject. Bringing her attention back to the conversation outisde of her mind she nodded. “I can understand that.” Mania picked up her foot, making a face as she shook the sand off of her foot. “I’m afraid we have different opinion of that.”
Ceto looked up strangely at the little-ish child. If anything she was quite amusing. "You are strange child." She laughed. "But I can't disagree with you on that. Making up words can be much more effective." She smiled. She watched as the girl who moved like a wisp played with the sand. "To each their own." She nodded. "So, tell me. Why do I often catch you watching me?" She questioned.
BLUE-EYED MONSTER // ASCLEPIUS & CETO
iswearby-the-physician:
"There’s three of them,” Asclepius replied with some annoyance, “The last thing I want to do is leave you there…”
Her voice remained strong and she was determined for him to leave her behind. Having just saved him and he saving her he was hardly going to leave her now,”Where?” he did not immediately see the piece of metal. Asclepius walked them over to it - looking back he saw one of the creatures now begin to stand. The others were beginning to cough up the water. He picked up the metal - it was very sharp as he cut his hand slightly - he let out a tiny ‘ow’ before handing it to Ceto.
"It seems sharp enough," Asclepius glanced to the creatures, it had not started towards them yet and they might make it out of their sight in time. Probably not. Completely oblivious (and useless) to the practical side of fighting Asclepius hoped his next suggestion would be a decent middle ground between Ceto wanting to stay back and fight and his run-and-hide strategy, "If I walk us as fast as we can, we get to safety and you can wave that metal round and fight it off? Well not wave — you get the idea."
He looked to her and shrugged with some bewilderment at the whole situation. Asclepius slightly increased his pace paying attention to her limp so as not to hurt her more.
Ceto rolled her eyes in annoyance in response to his own tone. This man was quite stubborn and she knew that from the sounds of the strange gagging that the creatures not too far behind them would be on their trail soon.
"You're not going to leave me are you." She said looking at him expectantly for a few seconds before sighing heavily. "Fine, fine." She watched him prod around with the stick before cutting himself. It was apparent that he had no little to no training of how to handle weapons or perhaps it was his own moral code that kept him untrained. Regardless, she took the metal from him, examining it. "Yes, that can work. But if I start slowing you down, you run. You understand? No questions or protests asked." She replied as they began to walk. He slowed down for her sake and she thanked him silently but bit her lip at the slightest movement.
They reached a corner filled with debris and moved towards it. Ceto could start to hear the footsteps of the women behind them as she gripped tightly onto the stick as they went into hiding.

It wasn’t a stretch to say that at the moment, Poseidon was akin to Atlas, holding the weight of the world on his shoulders, nearly crushed by the terrible burden. He had much to think about — his brothers, one stoic and impossible, the other growing equivalent in power and quite frankly insane, for one. Eirene had brought his attention to the very real struggle, and solidified the idea that for him, this war would never be over. No matter who won, he would always be stuck between the sky and the underworld. And he was.
Sighing, he moved along the sand briskly, scanning the ruins on the horizon for any sign of movement. This wasn’t a rescue mission any more, it was a hunt for tortured, broken bodies. This island had always been one of his favourites, the center holding a temple to his influence. Fishermen had lived here, and they sang the songs of old, lost to the modern Greece but for the tourist months.
Someone moved in the water at least fifty metres away from him, and he squinted, recognizing, almost. He had talked to Ceto earlier, hadn’t he, somewhere else, kilometres from here? He had the waves, the power of their master, to bring him here quickly, did she have the same? Poseidon realised with a start how little he knew of someone so obviously his comrade. Did he know anything about his fellows? He couldn’t remember. His consorts, Amphitrite, hidden away somewhere, he knew their strengths. But not the deities like Ceto.
His eyes on the figure, he saw the beast coming from the water before she did, and Poseidon had to stop himself from crying out when Ceto crashed to the rocky shore. A Telchine, no, it couldn’t be. It looked like it. But he, Zeus, Apollo — they had destroyed the creatures that his mother Rhea trusted to raise the young god. The fish children who made his trident were gone, forever. Nothing could have raised them. Swallowing hard, he approached as quietly as possible, the trident made by Telchines as his side. He wished there was someway to tell Ceto he would protect her.
Blonde strands of soft hair moved rapidly across her features as she felt her neck being restrained against the sand. She hadn't noticed the creature that had probably crawled towards her from the water but she'd obviously been to deep into her thoughts when it pounced on her.
Upon hitting the ground, the woman couldn't breathe for a few seconds, the impact knocking the wind out of her. Feeling the air rush out from her lungs, Ceto tried her best to let the water come to her aid as the demon like monster clawed at her. She couldn't make out it's features but she knew that every second she wasted, more damage was being done. The water was too far from where she was, but even her mind would not let her concentrate. Using all her force, Ceto thrust her arms out, hopeful to push the thing off of her now bleeding neck.
Some sort of sea demon, it looked like. But if it was, it would be under her command which meant this animal was not from the sea. It pushed back, falling on it's back not too far away from her, as the girl's body twitched slightly and she felt a shadow on her face through her closed eyes.
I've been alone long. Why stop?

Ceto took long steps as she strides across the warm sand that moved like quicksand deeper into the earth. The feeling sent pleasure through her and the familiar thrill of the joys the water always managed to bring her. She'd been doing a lot of thinking and mostly, galivvanting and although she still felt like she was wasting time - a thing that so precious in the current time being- she knew that this thinking had helped her make the right decision.
Choosing to fight with the Olympians.
She wasn't dumb-minded. She knew not to be foolish and naive and immediately get her hopes up. The Olympians, even if for the right cause were still selfish, greedy bastards and she'd be damned if she ever went crawling to them for forgiveness, or acceptance or pity. Ceto stopped and paused slightly as she stared at the ocean. So beautiful, so pure. She could only hope that soon, in time it would restore back to it's natural state, Not the chaos that was occurring.
So caught up in her thoughts, The blonde deity hardly noticed the large hound-like creature that sprung up on her, until it was too late and there were she was pounced onto, her body hitting the hard surface.
BLUE-EYED MONSTER // ASCLEPIUS & CETO
"I can’t fix that now …" The injury on Ceto’s leg would be a relatively easy heal. He would need more time than they can afford so running was their only option. Ceto hesitated before taking Asclepius’s hand and he began to realise how difficult it must be for her to - especially in her injured state - to accept the help of an Olympian who have always thought of her as a monster
He pulled her up and she fell into him, struggling to keep her balance with one leg gone. Asclepius took her by the waist to balance her for a moment before putting her arm round his shoulder,”Are you ready?”
Even if she wasn’t he began to walk on he looked backed to the creatures. One had begun to cough up more water and began to roll on her side to help the rest of the water leave her lungs. The only option Asclepius could think of was to try and hide in the ruins till they could find some form of weapons to attack with. He felt ill at the thought of having to cause some serious damage,”We can try and lose them for a bit in the ruins …”
Ceto nodded quickly. " It-it's fine." She replied heavily. As she watched him quickly get him. She almost fell when she took Asclepius's hand but his firm hold on her caught her in his arms. There was a moment of silence between the two of them before she cleared her throat and let him take her by the waist as she was now enclosed by his hold, having some more strength to walk, or limp.
"Yes, thank you." Ceto barely had time to respond before they were on their way, walking as fast as they could with her leg. She knew it was useless and shook her head at his suggestion. "No, I'm slowing you down. We'll have better chances if you leave me here and go hide nearby. Trust me, I can fight." She spoke firmly as they neared a corner and the deity spotted a sharp piece of metal. "Over there." She motioned to the material that could be used as a weapon. "I can use it. Not my first choice but it'll do." She responded.
Priests clutched onto bibles Hollowed out to fit their rifles And the cross held aloft Bury me in armor When I’m dead and hit the ground My nerves are poles that unfroze
"Too much war, not enough pleasure."
I think pleasure is a is a luxury none of us can afford to have.
poseiidone:
Sometimes, no, often, he didn’t want to be himself. He would rather be a mortal with a pathetic, inaffected life than control the sea and keep Olympus in check. He was too old for the shit they pulled, Zeus and Hades, too above it all to even be caring right now. And yet, here he was, begging his old friend, like he had many others. The war had softened him, like water softened the rock it broke against.
Brevity was the soul of wit, so Poseidon began the steps to easing off. Short bursts, many, were better than a few long debates, and he was wandering to other places in his head, no matter how important this was. He had always been like that, a touch out of touch, but now it was amplified. He could feel a breach in the ocean’s surface, something rising from the waters, something terrible, and for all his might he couldn’t shake it back down.
"You’ve seen my brothers, Ceto," He began, then stopped. "You feel that too, don’t you? It’s powerful." Out of nowhere, his senses dulled and he could no longer feel the thing, whatever it was.
"This is wrong, completely wrong." He muttered to himself, now deeply concerned.
Ceto sometimes longed to be favored by the Olympians. Or at least recognized. She certainly wasn't naive nor was she insecure. Confidence was always at it's peak with the goddess but perhaps the Olympians were to blind that their outcasting her had hurt her in more ways than one.
Maybe it was why, it was better she didn't make many efforts to befriend many of the Pantheon. Maybe it was the sister's of fate that had sealed her own future. Perhaps she knew, that somewhere deep down, there was a monster, a worshipper. of Hades that was lingering at the tips of her heart.
All was quiet for a few moments until she was faced with a heavy feeling that overtook her. It was an uneasy feeling. The feeling of instinct. Something was happening underneath the tides. And one look at her old friend, confirmed her thoughts that he'd felt it too. She breathed. This was wrong. Her home was in danger of being destroyed forever. "I will choose to fight by you. By the side of what is just and right. For the sake of my loyal creatures and for the sake of protecting our home." She paused. "But I do not want your or any of your relative's pity. I've been on my own for very long, and can handle myself." She spoke strongly, taking in his concern.
BLUE-EYED MONSTER // ASCLEPIUS & CETO
iswearby-the-physician:
She blatantly lied as she lay there with barely enough energy to move. She didn’t act like the monster he believed her to be. With some trepidation he moved closer to her. An injured creature was always at there most dangerous. Especially, as Asclepius had come to learn, when they were not very trusting of him.
"I can fix it for you," Asclepius’ fear of the woman was slowly changing into some level of respect,as far as he could the terrifying stories of her got her all wrong. Nothing - not even supposedly being a sea monster - could be as terrifying as someone who can drown you with their mind. Asclepius crouched down a metre or two away from her,”As a tha-“
One of the creatures twitched slightly. He sprang back up to his feet and watched as the creature convulsed and its chest began to heave. Some water spluttered out of it’s mouth. The other ones begun to move as well.
"We should run," Asclepius extended a hand out to Ceto,"Can you stand?"
Ceto knew she could try to heal herself with the water but she didn't want to. She knew that the way this man looked at her. The way his eyes lingered on her was the way a parent looked at a rebellious young mortal. With disgust and disappointment. It was the monster look.
She looked at him thankfully when he mentioned his being able to heal her. Of course you can, Son of Apollo. She now recognized who he was. She hadn't met most gods but certain features and traits gave it all away. The blonde pulled out her leg allowing him to look at the bare skin just past her silk toga.
Ceto drew back at his sudden movements and then realized the movement had come from the creatures that apparently hadn't given up yet. She silently cursed Hades before looking at his hand and hesitating before taking it. She managed to pull herself up and fell into his arms when getting up, trying to compose her balance.
"Ceto." He reached out to touch her, give her some sense of comfort, he hoped, but he drew back at the last second, doubting himself. It wouldn’t help anything if she jerked away, or he struck a nerve. All Poseidon could do now was damage control, and though the thought...
ceteofthesea
“Yes, alcohol is what they call it."
Would you happen to have any? I've heard they can become great distractions.
"Ceto." He reached out to touch her, give her some sense of comfort, he hoped, but he drew back at the last second, doubting himself. It wouldn’t help anything if she jerked away, or he struck a nerve. All Poseidon could do now was damage control, and though the thought made him want to grit his teeth and give up before he ruined what they had, he cared for the world’s well being more.
"Ceto, this war is showing everyone what we all need. They will come to respect you, I’ll make sure of it. You and I have the pull of the entire ocean on our side. You can make them respect you, I know it. You can show them you’re not a monster, because they’re wrong. My brethren are wrong.”
She watched him. He seemed to be sincere. Maybe he really did care about her, simply because they cared for the same things. The ocean, their home. Yet, it seemed as if in this argument they stood opposite each as as opposed to besides. She knew he would take on his word, but would his brothers? Would the rest of the Olympians suddenly change the thoughts they'd instilled into their minds about Ceto being a monster? She couldn't guarantee anything.
Ceto watched as he came forward to touch her and drew his hand back. She took a deep breath. closing her eyes for a seconds. Contemplating her decisions. She opened them again, and gently put her hand on his. "You understand me, You do not judge me. You are kind. Why? The water belongs you to, and if anything I'm but one of the deities in your command. Why do you not believe your your brethren?" She asked. She was starting to think that fighting alongside the Olympians would be the right choice.
