The first real image of a supermassive black hole! 

This photo was taken by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). This is the supermassive black hole at the center of M87, a galaxy in the Virgo cluster (I talked a bit about it in my last article on black holes). It’s surprising that this is the first real image of a black hole, especially since the digital illustrations have been so well crafted. We’ve known black holes exist for a while now, but this is the first direct visual evidence of a black hole.
