When I haven’t given myself much time to create I usually require a creative boost. On those occasions I go to the genius of Tim Holtz. Every month he does a tag with a tutorial -- it gives me the chance to get my hands dirty and get my wheel turning again. He never disappoints. This is my take on the August tag. Thanks for taking a look.
Every now and then I need a little dose of summer. Pietas, road trips to Nashville, cute summer paper -- it all just came together.
The Thursday Challenge over at Scraptastic Club was B&W + Color Photo - so I thought I'd give it a go. These pictures of my mister and my no. 3 son crack me up!
I distressed the edges of the paper with my scissors and a little distress ink -- I splatter in a bit of Color Shine (black velvet) for good measure.
One more quick layout -- done and ready to be added to my album!
This is a quick little mini that I created with some scrap pieces of chipboard. I literally grabbed my scraps and trimmed them even on the sides and made them work. Clearly I cannot get enough of this Crate Paper -- it's so light and fresh feeling. And I've found that I don't think a project is done unless it has a spray or two of Color Shine. (the Remember tag is created with a Heidi Swapp stencil, a naked tag and a few sprays of Primrose Color Shine: click here for her tutorial.) I'm just now starting to use my Cinch 2 on a regular basis. I'm not sure why I waited so long because it make binding mini albums super easy!

A little color inspiration I grabbed from Scrap and Yap. I get stuck in a "boy color" rut so it's good to be challenged to go outside of that. Although these boys are my "middle children" I have a bit or trouble with theirs "firsts". Every milestone is a little bittersweet and this first dance -- well, let's not discuss it anymore. Looking at them having so much fun -- being all grown up. sigh.

I love any encouragement to go back and use product I've purchased and am currently "saving". I am not sure how long I've had this Graphic 45 paper -- but it's nowhere near as long as I've been hanging onto those Scenic Route chipboard letters!

Mini Album w/ Crate Paper
Today I'm sharing with you fun little mini I created for a sweet friend's birthday. I bought this paper a while back at Michael's - it's a Crate Paper line designed by Maggie Holmes (Flea Market).
When I craft I usually grab a lot of things I think I will use -- often there are lots of things I don't use out of that pile. Those things go in a basket until I get around to putting them away. For this album I went through that basket and gathered the items I used for pages: scraps of chipboard, pieces of buntings, wooden frames, old coasters, etc. Then, I gathered several pictures of my friend from mutual friends we serve with at church. I also grabbed the paper I'd chosen, and some of my favorite Heidi Swapp stamps.
It was fun to use all these bits and pieces to create this gift:
Carpet Refresher
Let's face it -- sometimes life is stinky. Dogs are stinky, boys are stinky, outside is stinky and so our houses get stinky. I only have carpet in a few rooms, but my boys think the whole house is their playground so my furniture pays the price.
I love the way everything smells after I sprinkle carpet refresher on it -- but I hate that it is so flowery and I hate that it's mostly chemical. So I tried my hand at making my own. We all know baking soda eliminates oder -- and I've learned that there are oils that kill germs and oder naturally -- I thought I'd try combining the two and see what happened.
I LOVE IT! So easy, so quick, so inexpensive and all natural!
You will need:
1 glass jar
1 box baking soda
essential oil of some sort
*optional shaker lid (in photo below - purchased at Michael's)
I just poured the baking soda in the jar and added 5 drops of oil. My oils of choice are Young Living's Thieves & Purification (both of these oils are said have cleansing and purifying properties). Just stir with a spoon and put the lid on. It stores great in the jar and is easy to sprinkle out.
*because I use a shaker lid, I cover the top with plastic wrap when storing
I sprinkle it on my carpets, couches, mattresses and let it sit for a bit -- then I vacuum it up. Easy as that.
I am so excited to be working on my December Daily Album! This year I purchased this cute album from Close to My Heart and I'm going add some of my own personality to it. All those pics are "before" -- this is exactly how the album comes. Perfect for the busy "there is no time" folks! I talked my mom & sister into ordering them for that very reason. Stayed turned for pics of the completed album -- hopefully an update each week.
A little time scrapping.
When I started working full time my crafting came to a screeching halt. I couldn't quite balance getting all the mom/home/wife/work things done AND find time for craft therapy. Maybe once a month or less I'd sit down at my table and try to create something. A little over a month ago my husband offered up the option to stay home again. WHAT! It took me a hot second to accept that offer. Amazingly enough -- time is still an issue -- there are always things to get done. However I've decided to make myself sit down and craft and I've decided to not feel guilty about it. Even if that means skipping the floors for a day. It will all get done -- it always does.
Upon my search for my neglected mojo and old friend gave me invite to a virtual crop with the ladies over at Scrap N Yap -- I love scrapping with people so I jumped at the chance. Although I only got to participate for one evening I managed to complete several challenges. Below is the result of that fun evening.
1. Sticker Sneeze (use up a sheet of stickers --I chose canvas stickers from CTMH)
2. On the Border (use a border sheet - I chose one by My Mind's Eye that I'd been holding onto for about a year)
3. Christmas Cards using Project Life cards ( I didn't have any so I made my own)
4. 12 Days of Christmas (Holiday layout using 12 items from your Christmas stash-- I used an older Basic Grey Christmas line)
5. Sketch Challenge (one of the lovely members designed a sketch -- this is the challenge I started with - I always love a sketch)
I got more done in this one night than I had in the past year! It's so good to be back!
Scrapping my Stash
There are so many things I love about scrap challenges -- one of my favorites is that it encourages me to "shop" in the stuff I already have. For this layout I took inspiration from the November Page Maps and the countdown challenge from Scrap Our Stash.
The Challenge: you cam use more of each item, but not less and each item can only be counted once.

Sketchy Challenge
Crafting is just like anything else for me -- the more I do it -- the easier it is. I love when I make myself sit and create something. Lots of times I need a little boost -- I think challenges are a great spring board. For this layout I used was a couple different challenges combined, one from Society52 (use a grid) and one from Scraptastic Club (it was a sketch). Fall Bunting
One of our children's ministers from church asked me to help with a small photo backdrop they needed for this past weekend. I pretty much jump at any chance to do something a little crafty so I was happy to help out. All it required of me was a couple buntings and grabbing a few things off of my walls at home.
I grabbed some old Scenic Route paper I had and a couple packages of chipboard pennants (that I had picked up on clearance for $.39 per package @ Michael's), some jute and some twine, distress inks and a package of paper doilies. I also grabbed some Glimmer Mist and my gold Heidi Swapp Color Shine - because everything is better with a little sparkle. It all came together very easily. Below are a couple pics of supplies and of the finished buntings.

12 Tags - May
Each month I look at the "12s tags" that Tim Holtz creates and am always inspired. He says he's designed them as a means of inspiration -- his feeling is that "...it’s most important to “remember the now”.... no matter how busy and chaotic everyday life gets, we all need to take time to do something creative for ourselves..." This resonates with me. I am always saying "I just don't have time to sit and create..." And I often find myself frustrated that I don't make myself take time to just sit and be inspired. So, today I did. I sought out the tag inspiration for this month and I am so happy that I did! This month it was suggested that we dig in our stash and bring out those little bits and baubles that we love but might be hoarding. (a crafter -- hoarding, gasp.) The wings I used are some of my very favorite treasures I've ever purchased -- as are the clock hands. I would over use them if I wasn't afraid I'd run out. ;-) Here is my take on May's tag: ( inspiration tag )
I used Mustard Seed, Walnut Stain and Peacock Feather Distress Inks and just sprayed and splattered a little water on once I was done blending.
The paper I used to mount each trinket is just from my scrap pile and is mounted on chipboard. The quote is from a set of TH designed stamps.
I am still swooning over these wings. I love them!

Teacher gifts I'm used to -- and Sol requested fun little resin rings. So cute, quick and easy! (Thank goodness!) However we've entered into the world of girls, in my home of all boys, and that request had me a little nervous. Between Bynum and I, we came up with this bracelet. He chose the song lyric and we collaborated on charms. The color was all him. Maybe I'll just wear it for a few days first. (Kidding - totally kidding) I'm in love with the gift -- kraft colored bags, Heidi Swapp's Color Shine, a stencil and a few bits & bobbles. I just love how it looks! I followed this tutorial for the card -- and I am not at all disappointed with how it turned out. It literally took minutes. Go make one for your sweetie! :-) Here's to Valentine's Day!
