Obsessed with the potential dynamic between Suho and Seongje.
Mentioned this a bit in my last post but I can only imagine the sheer joy that Seongje would feel knowing that Suho woke up. How easy would it be now for him to taunt Sieun?
One day, he'd just have to find out for himself how great this Suho guy is.
Perhaps he'd confront him in his hospital room - the same room he stood in front of, while peering into the window and laughing.
What kinds of things would he say to provoke Suho?
"You know, you and I are not so different. We're both tied to Yeon Sieun forever."
"Let's be friends, Ahn Suho. We're already one degree of separation."
"The truth is, that kid needs me far more than he needs you. What a waste it would be if he never fought again. That won't be the case with me around."
"I've been taking great care of Sieun while you were gone."
(Would Suho not want to punch him at least once?)
I really really want them to interact!
Maybe nobody shares this read on Suho with me, but I do think that Suho can be quite an asshole and/or unhinged, naturally not always but for the right reason [= his grandma and Sieun).
And I do think that Seongje would love to be on the receiving end of this not so nice Suho XD
And after a good fight and A LOT OF BLOOD they will actually be friends.
Please excuse my strange headcanon for these two XD
Hey so where is WHC 3 announcement…..
And if you have a minute why don't we go?
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything,
So why don’t we go somewhere only we know.
Ok ok thoughts about this episode. I have them. Not that they’re particularly genius or anything I just have some.
Ok so rapid fire, off the top of my head, I love the sinister swell in the music at the end when it’s revealed that Mr. Pyo has had a tail(?) on Taepoong and you think. Well shit. If he has some sort of surveillance type shit then he has an upper hand, right? But then they swoop in with Taepoong looking at the deconstruction of the shoe just to remind you that he’s a dog with a bone. For better or worse he’s seeing this all the way through. And Pyo wouldn’t have a tail on him if he weren’t at least mildly concerned that Taepoong is a threat - Because Taepoong is impulsive, yes, but he has audacity, determination, and a risk-taking nature (and apparently a pretty good natural instinct) that makes him dangerous.
Speaking of Taepoong being impulsive I sort of love the scene where Mi-seon barks at him for doing something so rash that he didn’t consult her about. Not as in a “yeah, get his ass” way but also… not not like that. It was deserved. I think he kind of needed that check. Like the way a bigger dog will nip a puppy when they get too rambunctious. Perhaps. Which it’s really funny to think of Mi-seon as the Big Dog in this situation but she’s so cool I think it’s a nickname she’s earned.
I also think that until now watchers could have maybe fallen into this trap of characterizing her as quiet or shy or meek. Which she certainly can be the first, might be the second, but I think that moment proved that she definitely isn’t the third.
ACTUALLY returning to the dog analogy I just remembered that part towards the end where the lady (I forget her name; but Taepoong’s new contact in Busan) says that they’re like puppies playing in the sand. So. Alas, I’m not so far off here. Anyways.
I think that whole scene towards the end on the beach was quite sweet. Again, I think it’s a little amusing to reinforce the concept of Big Dog Mi-seon (as I have dubbed it) when he writes “I will not make you mad” in the sand. I love the idea that he’s like. Mi-seon scary when mad. Don’t make the smart, pretty lady mad. And it’s also funny when she says “are you going to do this every time?” because she is under no illusions that he’s not gonna tick her off again at some point. He’s too hasty and too new to this not to.
Going off track a little here for a second, I’m obligated to mention that Mi-seon is so pretty. Her cute freckles and the slight flush on her cheeks (nice bit of makeup detailing there actually) are really sweet. Taepoong is a dope and should only be so lucky. But at least he’s a sincere one.
Speaking of, I was caught off guard by how grounded and genuine he was? When I was watching the first episode, I was curious how far they were gonna lean into his whole “black sheep with a disapproving father, party boy” schtick so I was kind of pleasantly surprised to find that it doesn’t fall too far into overly comedic/theatrical territory (like it would in maybe a lighter drama) while still demonstrating that he is a much different person in the beginning than he is when he steps up after his dad dies, but his transition into being a slightly more serious character is believable. It also shows that part of why he was a bit devil-may-care is because at the time he felt pigeonholed and misunderstood by his father, so he didn’t really radically try to subvert his expectations (however them showing the small ways in which he did do things for his father/care about his approval was pretty well-done too).
I’m wondering how they’re gonna reintroduce his gardening habit, because I’m sure it’ll be significant again. He clearly is really invested in it, or was, cause I think he mentioned having his own species/strain of rose that he had bred or something? I can’t remember super well but I think he was talking with Nam-mo about it at some point. Something about releasing it on the market and having a domestic breed of flower with a unique color.
I thought it was sweet that he said Mi-seon was like a cosmos, if you keep in mind what he said on that show Nam-mo made him go on in the first episode. Something about them being resilient?
Wasn't he asked what his favorite flowers is and he answered Cosmos? And I think he brought his mom Cosmos and Mi-seon picked up the one he dropped. By the way XD I totally was confused and thought he ment cosmos = an alternative name for the universe or its nature or order [source: wikipedia] so thank you for clarifying it! <3
Tae-poong saved 3 rose hips, so I think/hope he will plant them and maybe build an empire on his roses. That he finished studing horticulture is very impressive to me. It made it clear to me from the beginning that he is neither lazy nor dumb. Or to put it in other terms, if he loves something he will put in everything he has.
Just some of my thoughts, thank you for your thoughts <3 I am literally refreshing the #thypoohn family tag hoping for something new.
Oooh I had forgotten about the rose hips!! And it just occurred to me that the rose hips are featured in the animation for the opening sequence so they for sure seem like they’ll be significant like you’re predicting.
Oh yeah, I also had forgotten that they’d said he actually was a horticulture major. That’s another part of why I was pleasantly surprised that they didn’t lay on the “lazy, insolent drifter” archetype too thick, because if you notice the way he behaves and also the little details like that, you understand that he’s really not that unruly (in Mexican slang there’s a term “mirrey” - basically an arrogant, spoiled adult that lacks focus. When I first read the plot synopsis that’s what I thought he’d be depicted as. But he does have focus and altogether he’s not that conceited, his passions and his inclinations just weren’t easily understood by the people around him and I’m fairly certain he used some of the misconceptions as emotional armor early on)
Anyways, he’s confrontational (at least initially) and bold, so the people around him (namely his father) perceived him as maybe a bit wilder than he was. But you see he’s a decent guy by the way he treats Yu-rim in the first episode (even if he’s not really interested in her) and in a few other ways.
Thank you for your thoughts too!! I totally get you, this is a really interesting drama, and I like that I get to view it as it airs because all too often I’ll watch a drama that’s already over with, and consequently has a reputation, so I’ll get expectations and then disappoint myself when they aren’t met. In this case I have no expectations so it’s really enjoyable
I do think you are right, he build an armor around himself only showing who he truly is to Nam-mo and his mom, at least in the beginning.
But the show shows us from the beginning that he actually cares for people [gave everything that was worth anything on his body to his friend that lost everything and was kinda on the run], even people he does not know [waiter a the club, who was bullied and beaten up by Pyo Hyeon-jun; on the subway almost being asleep just sitting for a second before getting up for the old woman so that she can sit down].
I am interested see what the observation binoculars in opening are for. The shoes are easy, him cleaning his fathers shoes every morning. Rose hips for his passion for flowers. Gloves... hmmm maybe for handling the shipment from Italy? Work boots he will try to make money from. And the red helmet that even with the trailer I am not quite sure what will happen XD
I am only watching kdramas since the end of August this year. So I am very knew to Korean TV shows. Before that I watched some Korean movies but not that many (Parasite, Lady Vengeance, The Host). I am thinking about getting an https://www.viki.com/ account, because I have only Netflix and I will NEVER give Disney any extra money if I can avoid it.
I feel you so hard on the Disney thing, I never use it and don’t ever feel like contributing to them if I can help it. I’ve been mostly using Netflix too, but even then I’ve been thinking that getting a Viki account may be better.
I hope you enjoy your adventure into watching kdramas!! I love them, and there’s quite a few different types of ones that you can watch to really find out what your preference is. I can recommend a few if you like.
Love all the commentary here! The writing and symbolism of this show is chef's kiss.
@outofmemory and @diazpoems --
I'm a big fan of Viki. They have a decent selection of FREE shows [ https://www.viki.com/categories/watch-free/genre/all ]. When I first started watching kdramas a few years ago, I watched as many free shows as I could before deciding if it was worth it. Eventually, I got the annual pass plus plan which saves money over the monthly plan. Also, if you create a free Viki account, you can create Collections (aka show/movie lists). I created one for Free shows and one for Subscription shows I was interested in to weigh my options for if/when it was worth it to start paying.
Thank you for your Viki review <3
I think I will make an account this weekend, if they have enough shows for my region :D

what is personal space to Kang taepoong?

If we are lucky we will get more shots of Tae-poong looking/leaning over Mi-seons shoulder. At this point we have two:
An accident, almost choking himself on her shoulder because he is so tired XD
Very important moment in regards to the future of the company [I LOVE the green cardigan Mi-seon is wearing <3]
The scene of Tae-poong asking Mi-seon to be the first employee of his company is beautiful and I think of the two of them as two flames refusing to burn out in the snow blanketed city where not only the financial market but also the people are cold. He just made himself the CEO of a company on brink of insolvency and she who accepted the job because to her it's not just a company about to go under but also the company of the man who helped her pay her sister's tuition and now that man's resilient son who refuses to go down without a fight and who acknowledges her skill just offered her the dream that she had given up on.
Also, I think we should talk about how Mi-seon was the first person accepting and acknowledging him as an employee since the first day he showed up in the office. The other employees said he would not last long but Mi-seon already had business cards printed out for him, even before Tae-poong decided to continue his father's company.
Plus, the little moments of her picking up the flower that fell from his bouquet and then her gifting him a rose on his birthday! My heart!! The romance is romancing and I am so seated.
And he kept the flower and took it with him when he had to leave his home together with his mom. Most likely to never be able to go back there.
I loved that he took the rose with him <3

In regards to the next episode, spoilers below:
THEY ARE MEETING EACH OTHERS FAMILY MEMBERS!!!!! *melts* And we are back in Mi-Seon home (I think, it looks like it)! I always go back to watch the scenes in her home again, to take in every little detail!
Think of instituting a new rule that if you watched Weak Hero Class One and loved it, you have to watch D.P. too. There are so many reasons you’d like it. It must be done.
That's fair and reasonable!
Although fair warning, Weak Hero never made me cry like D.P. did and I never screamed at my screen with Weak Hero either but with D.P. I could not hold myself back.
Because I know that shit that's portrayed in D.P. actually happens in real life and I kinda can push the terrible shit in Weak Hero into an alternaitve universe, it did not hurt as much as. [My brain just pushed the show "The Glory" back into my memory in regards to bullying T.T] D.P. fucked me up emtionally quite a bit more.
After writing the last paragraph I got flashbacks to all the terrible shit that happend in Weak Hero season 1 + 2 and maybe it was bearable because of characters like Baku. He had a terrible father and people called him dumb but he broke the circle of abuse and that kinda did not happen in D.P.
... I do not know if I am making sense anymore, it's almost 4 in the morning here XD I am here, just in my feelings <3
