The idea of WHC 3 scenes subtly playing off of Suho’s “married in a past life” joke.
Sieun or Suho wearing white and the other wearing black when they’re in a crisis.
Owning accessories made of red string.
One of them getting down on one knee to help them.
A framed photo of Sieun and Suho at Suho’s house… with wedding rings passed down from his grandparents next to it.
Edit: Thank you so much for all your lovely comments in the tags ❤️
If you are in the garden, I will dress myself in leaves. If you are in the sea I will slide into that smooth blue nest, I will talk fish, I will adore salt. But if you are sad, I will not dress myself in desolation. I will present myself with all the laughters I can muster. And if you are angry I will come, calm and steady, with some small and easy story.
Mary Oliver, from "Rhapsody Part 7" in The Leaf and The Cloud: A Poem
sometimes it’s annoying that when you’re discussing a character or looking for posts abt them ppl are always mentioning another character or something but the opposite is true for sieun and suho. bc you can never just be talking abt one of them. if you’re looking at sieun, you’re also looking at suho whether it’s an implicit version of his body repackaged as sieun extending a hand to juntae or him head down sleeping in class. if you’re looking at suho, you’re also seeing sieun in the way that suho is always carrying him in his body. that’s partly why it was so hard for sieun to live without suho because half of his body was tied down in that hospital bed and that’s also why suho feels so close but just out of reach all of season two. you can see him if you just look closely enough, like sieun is echoing him out of his body
There was a great analysis I saw about the quote displayed in the first scene of WHC 1 from the book “Demian” by Hermann Hesse. The two main characters in the book appear to mirror Sieun and Suho, which I believe was intentional. To my understanding, the two characters eventually merge souls, signifying self-actualization and independence.
It is no coincidence that Sieun internalizes Suho and takes on so many of his characteristics in season two. He is learning to live without Suho by becoming him. I also don’t think it’s by chance that they had Sieun lay unconscious in the hospital, mirroring Suho once again.
In season two, Suho and Sieun become one, and Sieun finally achieves an inner sense of peace.
I used to think that if there were a season three of Weak Hero, that Suho would immediately want to have Sieun around all the time.
But now that I think about it, I wonder if it would be more in-character for him to not want to be too dependent on Sieun. Season one showed us how much Suho had to grow up fast without relying on anyone. We rarely saw him in any emotionally vulnerable position.
So I wonder if Suho would not want Sieun to see him weak or having to lean on him while he's recovering in the hospital. Didn't the director say that he would have waited for a week after waking up before contacting Sieun?
I'm thinking that Sieun would try to see him after school every day, but Suho would tell him to only come around certain hours (when he isn't tired). Just so that he wouldn't worry about him.
"Who would want to come to the hospital every day?" he would ask Sieun.
"...What if I want to?" Sieun would reply, following him as he rolled himself away in his wheelchair.
But that wouldn't stop Sieun from bringing him his favorite food, from asking his doctors and therapists more questions in private. From hounding Baku, who quickly gets close to Suho on his own and visits him too. And nothing would stop their dynamic from going back to the way things were.
"You better not be skipping cram school to see me! You're still number one in your class right?"
"...Yeah. But I have no problem studying here. It's quiet. Except when you talk."
"Hey...."
Having intrusive thoughts about editing Weak Hero to the original Fruits Basket theme song…
"He doesn't know you."
This is a notable quote from the famous coming-of-age movie, "Stand By Me," based on a Stephen King novel. The quote comes from one of the main characters comforting the other in response to them saying their own father thinks they are no good (more context to the story, but I won't spoil it).
I find it interesting that there are many scenes in which Sieun is interacting with his parents, but he is aloof and cold to them. Those scenes are often quickly followed by scenes with Suho. (E.g. Suho barging into his apartment for water, Sieun meeting Suho and his friends at a cafe after meeting his mother.) The contrast between the different scenes is noticeable.
What is most important here is that Suho knew Sieun better than his own family. At first, Suho and Sieun seem like polar opposites. But as someone who is warm, affectionate, silly, and bright, Suho knew better than anyone what kind of person Sieun really was. His presence in Sieun's life was living proof that Sieun was loved - that he was capable of being cared for, that there was something beautiful about his eyes that bullies seemed to hate. That there was a sweetness underneath his quiet exterior that no one - not even his own parents - could understand. And that this made Sieun even more precious to Suho - that despite the trauma he endured his whole life, he never lost his kindness and empathy for others.
"They don't know you like I do," seems to be a common theme in season two as well. Perhaps the same could be said of Beomseok from Sieun's point of view. And Sieun from Juntae's point of view. Or Baku from Sieun, Juntae, and Gotak's perspectives when they confront Baku's father at his house. Or maybe there were times when Baku felt that way about Baekjin.
Sometimes, it takes just one person for someone to keep going in life. Not necessarily to save them, but to believe in them enough to remind them that they should exist, and that they are deserving of love even after it is taken from them.
Fully based on a scene from "Doona" (a show I highly recommend), but imagine Baku, Juntae, Gotak, and Sieun going out for drinks. Sieun doesn't drink much, so of course he gets tipsy after just one.
Stepping outside for air, he sits down and calls Suho, who is reading in his hospital bed.
"Calling me this late?" Suho says.
"....Mm. What are you up to?"
"Just reading. And watching TV. You?"
"....I''m out with my friends... "
Suho smiles, amused. He glances at the clock. "Are you drunk?""
"...I'm not sure. Maybe," Sieun says. "...when you recover, you should come with us next time. My friends... they want to know you."
Suho laughs, realizing how much Sieun has talked about him to his friends at his new school. He thinks of the messages Sieun sent him while he was unconscious, his smile softening.
"You miss me, don't you?" he says gently. "Right now."
"..."
Even though Sieun just saw him hours ago, something compels him to run to the nearest bus stop. The fastest way to get to Suho - what is it? Anything, anywhere - his mind runs blank. Because any moment Suho is awake is a moment he needs to be there. Right now.
Thinking of sweet Sieun feeling sorry towards Baku, Juntae, and Gotak for not recognizing their kindness towards him right away. For not being able to help but compare them to Suho, because how do you get better once you've had perfection? For knowing that Baku saw him waking up from a mental breakdown in the hospital over him. For trying to hide how much he misses Suho, but knowing they see right through him anyway. For having one foot always out the door. Thinking if they were anyone else, would they have stood by him in the state he was in when they all met?
Hey so where is WHC 3 announcement…..
The way I can envision Park Ji-Hoon in so many different genres and roles....
This is going to sound way too specific, but I can picture him in a heavy Miyazaki-esque film (non-animated, but similar to Howl's Moving Castle or Spirited Away) with a similarly emotional soundtrack (e.g. "The Boy Who Swallowed a Star").
I could see him acting in a coming-of-age horror series. Something sinister but with themes of loss and grief.
Or he could easily be in a thriller, set in a small town in the countryside. Something, or someone mysterious is out there and he's the only one brave enough to find it...
Honestly, I am just so excited to see where he goes with his acting career. His ability to make people cry at the drop of a hat is something I haven't quite seen before, and I'm sure there are many directors and actors hoping to work with him in the future.
I think that just because Suho is now awake doesn't mean Sieun would stop constantly worrying about him. I can imagine...
Sieun canceling plans just to see Suho. There is no particular reason - he just misses him, even though he saw him yesterday. He can't focus well when he's out with Baku, Gotak, and Juntae at first, his eyes always drifting towards the clock.
Sieun spending holidays with Suho at the hospital. Bringing him as much food as he is able to - some of which he learned to make himself.
Sieun crying from stress and frustration when Suho has a stretch of bad days and can't get through rehab. His friends at school worrying about him but knowing not to overstep. Suho always lighting up when Sieun walks into his hospital room, even though they argued the day before.
Sieun lying awake at night because he wonders if maybe, just maybe he did something good in a past life for Suho to wake up.
Sieun and his friends planning a trip to the beach to surprise Suho when he is discharged from the hospital. Always wanting to look out for him the way he did for Sieun. Wanting him to have happy memories from now on.
Obsessed with the potential dynamic between Suho and Seongje.
Mentioned this a bit in my last post but I can only imagine the sheer joy that Seongje would feel knowing that Suho woke up. How easy would it be now for him to taunt Sieun?
One day, he'd just have to find out for himself how great this Suho guy is.
Perhaps he'd confront him in his hospital room - the same room he stood in front of, while peering into the window and laughing.
What kinds of things would he say to provoke Suho?
"You know, you and I are not so different. We're both tied to Yeon Sieun forever."
"Let's be friends, Ahn Suho. We're already one degree of separation."
"The truth is, that kid needs me far more than he needs you. What a waste it would be if he never fought again. That won't be the case with me around."
"I've been taking great care of Sieun while you were gone."
(Would Suho not want to punch him at least once?)
If Weak Hero is renewed for another season, I can see Sieun becoming extremely protective of Suho now that he is awake, and getting into trouble because of it.
Baekjin's death surely would remind him of how close he was to experiencing the same thing that Baku did.
I can also easily imagine Seongje messing with Sieun by threatening Suho or full-on fighting with him. Remember when Jihoon said he wants to play a villain role someday? I can see Sieun losing his mind and almost killing him for even laying a finger on Suho. (Was it foreshadowing in Season 2 that he would kill everyone in Yeonhap if they were ever near Suho's hospital again?)
Meanwhile, Sieun would do his best to hide his pain from Suho - a callback to Season 1. Realistically, it would take years for Sieun to process Suho nearly dying, only for him to come back to life.
But Suho would know the entire time how much Sieun was suffering. I think at some point, he wouldn't be able to help but hold him. It would hit him all of a sudden how much mental agony Sieun was in while he was in a coma, and he would do his best to make up for the time he was gone.
(Please please Weak Hero Season 3 announcement soon...!)
Alright, so… be brutally honest. How likely is it that we are getting a season 3 of Weak Hero…?
While I absolutely loved Weak Hero Class 1, the second season is what truly cemented the deep love that Sieun has for Suho. I've seen it said that all of Season 2 is basically a love letter to Suho from Sieun, and I couldn't agree more.
What makes Season 2 so devastating is Sieun's devotion to Suho when Suho is unable to give him anything in return. Throughout the season, we see Sieun visiting him several times at his hospital, sitting outside of his room. Visiting Suho is like a religious experience for Sieun; he feels that he must face the consequences of his actions that led to this - that in his mind, he must repent for the sin of "killing" Suho.
In other words, Suho is a god-like figure for Sieun in Season 2. He sees Suho everywhere, as if in a trance-like state - in his dreams, and in his newfound friends, from the way they eat to the way they fight. He views Suho as a standard of morality, his mind flashing back to when he told him not to cross the line. Messaging Suho and apologizing to him out loud is akin to confession - a way of coping with his guilt and despair over losing him.
After waking up from unconsciousness, Sieun's body immediately feels the need to see Suho. "I'm sorry I'm late," he says, as though Suho was expecting him. He doesn't want to disappoint him for not being there that day, and wants to assure Suho that despite everything, he is forever faithful to him.
I could go on and on, but I think this is what makes Season 2 so sad to the point where it's almost unsettling. Suho, in his comatose state, becomes a higher power for Sieun - someone who is incomparable and above all others, someone he looks to when he is weak, when he is stuck in the dark, and when he is lost without hope.
